Why book one cabin when you can have two? Our Trail + Guest Cabins offer a rare pair of hand-hewn log retreats on Poplar Lake—each beautifully preserved and wrapped in Northwoods magic.

Sleeping 8, this one-of-a-kind property offers room for more family or friends to enjoy a special Gunflint Trail getaway together!

Sip coffee on the dock at dawn, enjoy legendary Gunflint Trail hikes by day, and fall asleep to the call of loons at night.

These aren’t just cabins - they’re an experience!

The space
Further inland, up the iconic Gunflint Trail, sits our "Trail + Guest" Cabins — two beautifully hand-hewn log cabins conveniently situated mid-trail on Poplar Lake. Here, mornings start with loon calls and coffee on the dock. Evenings end with starry skies and the feeling of being worlds away. Enjoy this one-of-a-kind serene escape surrounded by wilderness—just a short paddle away from the Boundary Waters.

- 45 minutes from Grand Marais
- Located mid-Gunflint Trail
- Directly on Poplar Lake with private beach & dock to enjoy
- Minutes away from popular dining at Poplar Haus, Loons Nest, Trail Center Lodge, and White Pine Lodge

PLEASE NOTE: if you stay during Winter, you must have a vehicle with all wheel drive, or 4 wheel drive, or you will not be able to make it up the road to the cabins. It is also a 1 lane road, so please drive slowly and carefully (10mph)

Guest access
Enjoy the entire property - 2 cabins, large wooded yard, and private lakefront during your stay, along with the beach + dock!

Please note: due to insurance restrictions, we cannot allow guest access to any watercraft on the property. Please bring your own canoe/kayak/sup if you wish to paddle the lake.

Other things to note
- Please review our house rules

- Do not use the owner's kayak/canoe/sup on the property - but feel free to bring your own

- Enter lake and BWCA at your own risk

- Out of respect for neighbors living nearby, please remember: closeness to nature and solitude are a couple of the reasons why our guests choose to visit our property, and we ask that you respect quiet hours and our neighbors privacy.

- The North Shore is full of wildlife and bugs. Please be respectful of the animals you may see on the property. Spring and Summer are heavy bug seasons, and you will likely have to deal with mosquitos, occasional spiders, and cluster flies. We do what we can to minimize flies around the building during fly season, but some years are worse than others, and they may come regardless of our efforts.
