Irene & Gerardo.
I felt welcomed as soon as they picked me up from the airport. They were very helpful in showing me the best places to visit around the city and how to get back back and forth to the conference I was attending.
Irene and Gerarado are great hosts and their place is a fine spot to visit Quito. It's clean, cosy, and in a safe and professional neighborhood. For the price, it can't be beat. They were always available and very helpful with recommendations and setting up transit to and from the airport. Gracias!
This was a great Airbnb experience. Geraldo and Irene were great hosts. My trip was cut short(nothing to do with this place or the hosts at all). The House was about an hour away from the airport, and Geraldo and Irene came to pick me up and drop me off. Geraldo was waiting at the airport with a sign that says your name so there is no guessing when it comes to who is going to pick you up, which is great. They both speak English. Irene was at the house to show me a map of the area and she explained how everything works. If i had a question they were there to answer and did not seem bothered, they are very humble. I would stay here again. The pictures are true, the area looks just as shown and the house is clean. Every morning i had a breakfast and you are given keys and a lock to the room that you will be staying at. They were very accommodating, i am vegan so for breakfast they made sure i still had something to eat, which was greatly appreciated. Irene is very informative of the area and she tells you exactly what you need to know. Overall i had a good experience.
We arrived a little earlier than expected but Irene came right away to welcome us and share information about Quito. The accommodations are very comfortable. We stayed in the bedroom with the private bathroom and had a very comfortable sleep. Unfortunately we were only able to stay one night (as opposed to two nights as planned) because of a change in our itinerary. Though we weren't able to spend a lot of time with Gerardo and Irene, they were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was provided at 8:30 and included an egg, bread, juice, and coffee. We felt safe in the house as it had good security.
A word of caution, the surrounding area isn't the safest so make sure you plan your trips to and from the house.
One thing we didn't realize is that most of everything in the city is closed on Sundays. Don't plan to tour the shops on that day. The streets will be deserted of people and businesses.
Overall, a wonderful house with every better hosts.
Thanks for your comments!. Let me tell you something about the neighborhood. We are in a residential area, which is secure, but as you said: you came just 1 day and on sunday and on that day in Quito we dont have people walking until late night, that`s why it could see as too quiet or empty... but that is normal on sunday in all Quito. The area is surrounded by clinics, offices, Carolina Park, mini markets. And as in all the cities around the world you must take care of yourself, and we gave you advices about how to get to home (taxis)
Hope you can come in the middle of the week.
Irene & Gerardo
This was our first time using airbnb -- and to say it was amazing is an extreme understatement. I cannot say enough great things about this particular experience. Gerardo and Irene were both super friendly, helpful, considerate, caring, and genuinely fantastic people. They picked us up from the airport, gave us a brief overview of the city along with a map, and helped us settle into the apartment. They even gave us a bottle of water since we didn't yet have a chance to pick some up.
The apartment was simple, safe, and quite nice. It has 3 locked doors/gates, so you will always feel safe. The neighborhood has plenty of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, and it's a pretty safe part of town. As always, the term "safe" is relative and coming from Chicago and being pretty well-traveled, it's expected to just act with common sense and your odds of problems are drastically reduced. In summary, it's plenty safe and probably a bit safer than most South American cities.
The Wi-Fi works well (DSL speeds) and it'll suffice for Skype and light VPN work if needed (one girl from NYC used both simultaneously). They serve a light breakfast w/ coffee and juice...perfect to start the day! The living room is the best part of the entire place, hands down. It's perfectly situated to sit around, converse with other guests, have a glass of wine or cup of coffee, read, or do some laptop/iPad work. Gerardo and Irene will be around most evenings to make sure everyone makes it back safely and it's so much fun to chat (practice Spanish) and wind down before heading to bed.
I won't go into detail about Quito or places they'll recommend seeing because you can do that via TripAdvisor. I will say that I highly recommend visiting this airbnb and will without a doubt return at some point in the next couple of years. Any potential qualms you might have with the apartment will be disappear with the amazing conversations with guests, fun experiences, and warm hospitality from Gerardo and Irene.
Irene & Gerardo, it was great meeting you both and we thank you for being part of our trip. Hope to see you soon and stay in touch!
