The 2nd floor Skunk Barn Farm apartment gets rave reviews from folks looking for a cozy simple complete home and a departure from the hum drum & the hubbub. Newly Available just recently since long term tenants are leaving end of May. I would especially encourage folks who want to stay a loong time.
Welcome back!

The space
This second floor apartment has seen a lot of Love. Two babies were born here! And perhaps conceived here... be thus advised. :^)

Built under the same roof as my house, on the West side of what was a hay barn, it still is barn-like. And you might, depending on the season, see the chickens en route to your country get-away.

We call our farmette the Skunk Barn Farm, and have raised animals here, but these days mostly fruit, eggs, and vegies.
I made a conscious choice not to spend thousands of dollars on a septic system so there are NO FLUSH TOILETS on the premises. If you like the idea of sharing the fertility of your manure in the outhouse then you'll enjoy being here. If you cant bear the thought of not having a flush toilet to whisk your feces away (where?) than you wont!

There's a wood stove and propane heater for heat, a gas stove for cooking (its little but works great!) Tub/shower, nice hot water.

A bed room, a big room with Kitchen /dining /living in mind, and bathroom, and a loft -- it's little but two people could sleep there. There's a full bed in bedroom and a twin futon in the loft. I'm working on returning the chaise that you see in the pictures. Groups over 2 or 3 should keep in mind that the resources of gas, wood, and electricity to heat and light are precious and finite and are encouraged to make sustainable, conservative choices.

I have 2 cats and 12 chickens. They are fab.
Your dog has to be farm tested or kept on a leash.

That's all i can think of for now.... Mas pronto nos vemos

The neighbor hood is quiet and rural. Very pretty. A little rarified, but we're doing our best to bring it down-home.... there are great people around but you dont see them too often.

My daughter and I converted a barn into a home and an apartment 20 years ago when she was on the crew as a home-schooled 7th grader and I GCed when I came home from jobs away. We've always striven to live very sustainably. She learned early how to network for rides, I even sometimes leave the car at home and hitch . Though we could have, we opted not to put in a septic system, so we function on the "water is precious" paradigm. This means I find ways to use water more than once! I'd be happy to show you how to save $ on your water bill. We've always grown various amounts of food on site, including some meat which I'd like to do again when there's more human resource on premises. Present demography existing, we're working perennial fruits and a small summer garden... well the leeks and kale will last into the fall. We call the place the Skunk Barn Farm. Historically, skunks were relocated here from the boarding school nearby, some died in the hay barn and we found their beautiful skeletons amongst the old hay and boards that lay in the barn, unused for decades. I chose to retrofit an existing structure near a road as a way to not take away habitat from animals less adaptable than our human selves. Though not fancy, it's comfortable: passive solar shortens our wood heating season. And a small solar array will keep the well water pumping in case things go south. Solar "clothes dryer" works year round if you know how.... As a family we've always shared our living quarters with housemates, and recently I've expanded the concept to include an apartment under the same roof and the tent located where my family lived while we constructed. I've worked over the years on Nuclear disarmament, War Tax Resistance, Civil Rights and Global preservation. I'm an avid outdoor (non-motorized) recreationist and dancer. Our fairly extensive library is available for your perusal. I'm interested in International trends, people, music and places. Hablo espanol bastante bien. I teach Spanish, so far mostly, to children. Je parle un petit peu de Francais. So if you're from Quebec je voudrais parley Francais avec toi!! I am not attached to my phone.. But I do eventually get messages that you send via this fabulous digital broker. Important for you to know though that I may not be super prompt. My work with people will not be interrupted for a digital message. Later right? I've traveled sola to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Chiapas, and Michoacan, Mexico and with my daughter cross (this) country and to the Netherlands. As a child I was taken to Europe: GB. Luxembourg y Espana where my mother's cousin married a Madrileno and stayed. I'd love to travel more. I know how to travel cheap, 'cept for the getting there. I do not charge a per person rate, but if you come with more than 2 people please consider leaving me a tip. Thanks. But I truly love my home. Here at the Skunk Barn Farm the sun shines amply, the skies are fantastic, and the greenery is varied and lush. It's a tough place to leave. I love sharing it with people. I hope you'll enjoy visiting.

During your stay
I am happy to visit with guests as they would like out in the yard, on my deck or in either domicile, as the guests see fit, and I have time. Usually it happens as we cross paths outside. When I'm around, I'm happy to answer questions and get to know people. Also I can give folks my cell number if they have questions when I'm working, sometimes I will be able to field them. Texting is best in that case.
