The Space

Years ago in the early 19th Century some people's homes had a room, typically with it's own separate entrance in which folks passing through had a comfortable place to rest for an evening or short stay. This room was known as the "traveler's room" or "traveler's quarters". Come and stay in the "travelers quarters" at Midlane Farm. Adjoined but separate from the main house your quarters is quiet and cozy, appointed with antiques including a 200 year old cannonball bed (don't worry it's sturdy), a small but efficient bathroom and a television. Relax on the back porch with an iced tea or julep and dream of days gone by, stroll the garden (organic) and grounds, cook from the garden if you wish in the modern main kitchen, sit and watch your favorite TV program or read a book in the "lower kitchen" (which some have deemed the best single room in the city of Louisville), enjoy complementary Bourbon or cocktails. The bar at Midlane Farm is always open and always well stocked! Hospitality would not be complete without towels, linens, and breakfast. If you need room for more than two no problem. You can stay in the main house and we'll move to the traveler's quarters! Please contact us first though to ensure that we don't have any conflicts. The main house (Midlane Farm 1820 Federal Home) can easily host six, but also rents individual rooms. Let us share our passion for the preservation of this "grand ole dame" with you. Sleep tight at your old Kentucky home. Good night.........

  • My partner and I had a lovely experience staying at Midlane. Chas and Kim showed us true hospitality and made our stay in Louisville special. From the welcome bourbon to the tour of the city, our experience was delightful. I would highly recommend the travelers quarters to anyone passing through the area!

  • Chas and Kim were very friendly and accommodating. The room had en-suite facilities and is an apartment from the main house, separated by a shared room in-between for socializing, so you don't feel you are encroaching on anyone's private space.

  • We had a wonderful time meeting and staying with Chas and Kim. They were quick in their communication and were able to give us a great recommendation for the dinner. The hospitality, the breakfast, the basil, and the salad greens were all wonderful! The room is cute, comfy, and private. Our dogs are already sad to leave Rufus and their lovely yard!

  • Chas and Kim's place was a great find! It was extremely comfortable in all respects, including our evening cocktails and conversations with them on the back porch. These folks were so hospitable, we almost felt guilty for not helping them out with the seemingly endless number of chores which they performed in and around the house and grounds.

They also were a terrific resource for interesting and fantastic places to dine and visit. Take them up on their definitely won't be disappointed.

  • I had a wonderful stay at Midlane Farm for my week visiting beautiful Louisville. Kim and Chas are lovely, gracious hosts who eagerly welcomed me to their home and comfortable guest quarters. Midland Farm is convenient and a short drive to downtown, and most everything else I enjoyed doing while in the area. I would highly recommend staying at Midlane Farm, and if I return to the Louisville area I would be delighted to stay with Kim and Chas again.

  • Our first AirBNB experience could NOT have been better! Chas and Kim are wonderful and gracious hosts. Midlane Farm is a little slice of heaven right in Louisville! Chas met us as soon as we arrived, we lounged and got acquainted in the lower kitchen (there is no cooler room in all of KY). They joined us for dinner at our request and showed us all around Louisville with historical insight and true local flavor. Our dog Sasha loved the property and after a long ride in the car was thrilled to run around the yard and stretch her legs. this is a wonderful location with even better hosts!

  • We had the most lovely stay at Midlane Farm! From the amazing backyard and our own private room to the delicious breakfasts (never had bacon so good!)
The Stephens' really know how to welcome you with southern hospitality and charm.

I truly value when others take time and are so welcoming to me, my husband, and our dog. Can't recommend staying here enough! So relaxing & easy to get to downtown Louisville. Thank you Chaz & Kim!!!

  • Where to begin.... When a 6.5 hour drive turned into a 13 hour drive due to car trouble (transmission), we were greeted with open arms and nothing but hospitality in its purest form. The minute we pulled into the driveway, we felt as though our very own family were welcoming us home. A house with old world charm kept in pristine condition with everything you need to feel at home while traveling, a magnificent yard, amazing porch; we cannot wait to come back in summer to see the garden and trees in full bloom!!

Our hosts: they simply could not be more generous and welcoming of us into there home and community. (And we only had the pleasure of meeting Chas). We were stranded with a half working car, only halfway through our 1300 mile drive, yet looking back on it all.... Being stranded and puttering up to the doorstep of Midlane Farm, was the best thing that could have happened to us.

We urge everyone passing through Louisville to make staying with Chas and Kim a top priority. We are not the first, and certainly not the last to say it, but these truly are sacred grounds.

Much love and safe travels to all.... See you soon!

  • I had a wonderful stay at Midlane Farm! Kim and Chaz are gracious hosts. I arrived around 9pm on a Friday, and they were entertaining four friends of theirs. I was invited to join them, and had an enjoyable time. The following evening they offered to host my group (20+ people) for dinner, rather than have us try to get a reservation for that many. It was such a nice, relaxing time in their beautiful home. Rather than fighting the Saturday night restaurant crowd my team got to make a special memory at Midlane Farm. Thank you Kim and Chaz!
The Travelers Quarters room was comfortable. The bathroom was small, but functional. I hope to return to Midlane Farm next year!
