Okay, busted. The only thing here from America is us. Everything else was purchased locally... Regardless, this is a nice, 5 bedroom house, with hot showers, located in Kimihurura. Just 7min from the Kigali city center, 10min from airport, and generally very centrally located. Great porch and great sunset views.
My wife and I love to host and have plenty of extra room for a few guests. We pride ourselves in having a clean and comfortable place.

You really can't beat Kimihurura. As Kigali has grown, Kimi is now as central as it gets. You can get to downtown, the airport, or even as far as the MTN center in Nyarutarama all within a 10 minute drive. The neighborhood itself is great. It's less than 5 minute walk from pretty much everything you'd need to keep you satisfied, including restaurants such as Papyrus, Mr. Chips and Lalibella. Mamba Club has great burgers and sand volleyball on the weekends and Hero Shop has excellent 1500rwf smoothies. Also, there is a huge roundabout just up the hill where people go at night to run laps and exercise. Since it's so close to the Ministry of Defense, Kimihurura has historically been the neighborhood of choice for top Rwandan military officials, giving the area excellent security.
Immediate access to moto taxis (It's never taken me more than a minute to find one) and a short walk from a taxi / bus stop. If you want to take a car, we'd suggest giving you the number for a local taxi driver. There is a taxi parking area about a one minute drive from us and they would be able to pick you up to save you the walk.
Other Things to Note
If you are arriving from the U.S., let us know ahead of time. We'd love to ship you some things to bring in for us. We'd be more than happy to offer you a cash rebate when you arrive.
Respect the house. Make sure the house is just as clean and nice as when you arrived.
You could not have two better people than these two. Jake and Dayton were so kind and their house was perfect. If you are in Rwanda dont miss out on meeting these awesome people and staying at their sweet place, it was clean. Valentine the doorman was so great too. Pretty much the space was great, the people were even better and it made our Rwanda trip stellar. Thanks Jake and Dayton!
Jake and Dayton were incredibly welcoming hosts and great housemates! It was nice to have a private bedroom and bathroom, although Jake and Dayton were also very happy to share the living space, kitchen, and good conversation. The housekeeper, Valentin, was also an absolute gem, helping to show me around and even washing my clothes for me! The whole arrangement was very casual and comfortable.
Moreover, the location couldn't have been any better. It's a very safe neighborhood and within walking distance to a dozen delicious restaurants and cafes. Plus, there's easy access to public transportation and moto-taxis.
Overall, Kigali is a fantastic city and staying with Jake and Dayton made it all the more convenient and thrilling to explore!
Jake and Dawson were welcoming and generous with their home, which is in a quiet, centrally located part of Kigali. I really enjoyed getting my exercise on some long walks around the neighborhood. The accommodations were comfortable and it was great to have access to their kitchen and washing machine. Valentin is very supportive and helpful. Living in a home in Kigali was definitely a welcome change from a hotel and something I'll definitely do again when in Kigali--thanks Jake and Dawson for great stay!
I had a great stay at Jake and Dayton's, 12 nights in September. I travel frequently to the region, and normally stay in hotels, but I decided I wanted a "homey"-er option and this was perfect! The room they rent is in its own little wing of the house, with en suite bathroom, so has plenty of privacy and is clean and comfortable. Jake and Dayton are wonderful hosts -- warm and welcoming and extremely helpful for getting to know the area. They have wi-fi and a nicely equipped kitchen, so there really was all a person could need! They have a dog, Allie, who does bark on occasion, but is really very sweet and harmless. The neighborhood is perfect, with lots of restaurants, an easy moto ride to town, and a quick jog to the ministries roundabout which is a great 1km loop for an evening run. Overall, I definitely recommend staying with Jake and Dayton!
Jake and Dayton's place was great - clean, comfortable, and in a safe neighborhood. Valentin was very helpful, walking us to some nearby restaurants when we first arrived after a long flight, and he also helped find taxis and motos. We only stayed one night, but would definitely recommend it.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Jake's place. Unfortunately, Jake was out of the country during our time in Kigali, so we did not get a chance to meet in person. Nonetheless, we were very well cared for by Valentin, the house's extremely friendly groundskeeper, who lives on the property. The location could not have been better, we loved the neighborhood: a leafy residential area with lots of nearby restaurants and bars, and only a short mototaxi ride from downtown Kigali.
Had a wonderful time at Jake and Dayton's house. Great location for food and transportation to the city. Their home was nicely furnished, kitchen great. Would recommend their home for a quiet place to stay in Kigali.
I'm 26 and from Mesquite, Texas. I currently live in East Africa, working with a coffee exporting company called Rwanda Trading Company. I get to do all the exciting things like coffee cuppings and farmer visits, but my biggest contribution is dreaming up innovative solutions that change the way we interact with producers and suppliers. I enjoy anything active, competitive and adventurous. I try to live my life in a way that puts others before myself. I'm in Rwanda about 10 months out of the year and like to spend my time off traveling and visiting new places.
