Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
The Barn is situated half a mile up a track in the Surrey Hills, next to the Serpent Trail and a couple of 100 metres from the South Downs National Park. It feels like it is in the middle of nowhere, yet guests can walk to the centre of Haslemere in 30 minutes.

Whether you are looking for great walks, visiting friends or relatives, or just want to escape it all, we hope you will love this place as much as we do.

The space
The Barn is about 20 metres from the host’s house and is accessible via a stone path from the guest parking area (for 2 cars) on our bridleway. It is quiet, peaceful and completely self-contained.

There is a lovely open-plan sitting room with a simple kitchen to the side and a dining table with four chairs. Please note, for larger groups there are additional chairs around the Barn which can be co-opted in as additional dining chairs, so if you don't want to go out you can prepare your own meal, then relax and enjoy the views over our pond and garden. Or just chill out in front of our 52 inch TV.

For up to 2 paying guests, we are happy to offer either Bedroom 1 or Bedroom 2. Just let us know which one you would prefer.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a supplement of £45/night for bookings of two people or less who wish to make use of the second bedroom and bathroom as well.

Bedroom 1 is cosy with a double bed and a large ensuite.

Bedroom 2, has French doors leading onto the Barn's private garden. It is a lovely room, very spacious with a king-size bed. There is a 2nd bathroom immediately adjacent to Bedroom 2. This serves as the bathroom for Bedroom 2 and the for the mezzanine.

The mezzanine area is above Bedroom 2 and has 3 single beds.

Guest access
PARKING
There is a separate parking area for our guests (for up to 2 cars). Please do ask if you have any queries about this.

GARDEN - Guests have sole use of a private lawned area of garden to the left and rear of the Barn which we have fenced off so children can play freely away from the pond. We have recently bought a new outside dining table and 4 benches which seat 8. This is for the exclusive use of our guests and the views of Blackdown as the sun sets are outstanding.

WOODLAND
We have been working hard on some woods that we purchased a couple of years ago. Formerly a bird sanctuary it is a very special bit of ancient woodland so we are trying very hard to maintain the ethos of its original use.
We have now gently cleared a little track round at least part of it and there is a table and benches should you wish to picnic down there.
In May this year we heard these birds within a 20 minute trip: Song Thrush, Robin, Blackbird, Blackcap, Firecrest, Pied Flycatcher, Wren, Little Grebe and a Long Eared Owl!
We would love you to explore it and please do ask us for directions but be aware that the ground is rough, there are brambles and the log piles are not stable and should not be climbed on by children.

WASHING MACHINE - There is NO washing machine and tumble dryer in the Barn but we are very happy to do the odd load or two in our own house. We charge £8 for each load of washing which includes tumble-drying and washing liquid/softener.

Other things to note
USE OF LOCAL SPA

We are very happy to be able to offer an exclusive deal with with our local Hotel and Spa.

This includes use of the Spa (a lovely pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam room and gym) and also a reduction on treatments. We are happy to release details of this after a guest has made a reservation.

BRIDES

At High Barn Farm, we are delighted to offer an exclusive one night bridal package for brides who wish to stay the night before their wedding. It includes:
- hosting up to 7 guests the night before the wedding;
- hosting additional guests: hairdressers, photographers, make-up artists, wedding cars, additional friends and family (up to 12, including the guests who are staying) on the wedding day itself;
- use of the beautiful grounds around the Barn for photos and videos;
- prosecco on arrival and a full continental breakfast on the morning of the wedding (including an array of pastries and croissants, freshly squeezed orange juice and - of course - plenty of coffee and tea);
- the host to remain on site for the duration of the morning to help as and when required, particularly with meeting and greeting hairdressers, photographers etc and managing parking.

This offering is subject to the Host's availability. Please do get in touch for more details.

N.B. We do NOT allow drones (they can cause a great deal of distress to our livestock) and we respectfully request that guests do not bring confetti or party balloons unless they are happy to remove them at checkout.

We live in a magical setting but it does have its own quirks.

POND - There is a large pond immediately outside the Barn so we are not comfortable hosting children between 2 and 9 unless they are supervised AT ALL TIMES by a responsible adult. There is a fenced off area to the side of the Barn so children can play safely away from the pond.

DRIVEWAY - We are up a long private drive surrounded by fields so it is truly peaceful. Our track (it is not a made-up road) does develop potholes throughout the year though and although we try to keep on top of them please make sure you are happy about this before you book!! If you think you are not going to like driving up a track this may not be the place for you. And please follow the directions given by the host so you don’t get lost.

ANIMALS - We have an English pointer dog (Spring) and a Border Collie (Rocco). Please note that the dogs do not have access to the area outside the Barn or the private fenced-off area used by guests.

There are also two cats, horses, donkeys and sheep, all of whom (even the sheep) are very sociable.

MUD - Pretty as the countryside around us is, it gets pretty muddy in the winter so please bring appropriate footwear.

HEATING - We try to keep the Barn at a nice comfortable temperature which is 20 degrees during the day and 21 degrees in the evening.

Neighborhood highlights

The Barn has direct access to a bridleway (The Serpent Trail) which leads in one direction to Blackdown (owned by the National Trust) and the many walks and trails of the South Downs National Park. In the other direction it leads to Haslemere. A brisk walking pace will take you to Haslemere High Street with its wide range of cafés, shops and pubs in about 30 minutes via the bridleway immediately outside the gate.

We are surrounded by wildlife. You may see deer as you drive up the track or if you are driving up late at night you may accidentally chase a badger (believe it or not, they can move pretty quickly). There are also buzzards and owls and a red kite is often seen flying above the fields.

There is an OS Map for you to use during your stay and we are very happy to recommend our favourite walks ... as well as local pubs and restaurants.

We should add that although we are within walking distance of Haslemere, this is most definitely the countryside and it gets VERY muddy when it has been raining, even in the summer. If you have welly or walking boots, please bring them!

If you prefer shopping, Guildford and Chichester are within a comfortable driving distance.
