The Space

You'll notice immediately that there is no other space like this in all of Ohio City; a loft-style warehouse suite nestled in a historical residential community with excellent access to all the sites, sounds, restaurants, activities, and sports attractions you could imagine in the downtown, or Ohio City/Tremont areas.

The moment you step into your suite you'll sense a peaceful, welcoming ambiance. And to make your arrival more special, we provide complimentary fruit, bagels, fresh OJ, bottled water, and varieties of coffees, ready for brewing in our Keurig coffee maker!

Although the building is an 85 year old brick warehouse, the suite has all new construction on the interior. It is open, spacious, clean, comfortable, and is perfect for that business trip or special get-away for the weekend.

Along with the amenities listed in the Amenities section, we also have inter-connected smoke detectors, CO detector in the bedroom, fire extinguisher in the kitchen, first aid kit, and emergency exit placard with phone numbers for emergency situations.

We also provide a hair dryer in the bathroom, a walk-in closet in the bedroom and iron with ironing board for your use.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the entire first floor, which includes the loft-style suite, a table tennis table in the open warehouse section, a back yard with fire pit, free private parking in the garage, and a secure place to park your bikes.

Guests will also have garage door controller, private entrance to the suite, as well as a private front door access to the space.

The garage parking and back yard are shared with the owners of the building.

The basement and upper floors are off limits.

Interaction with Guests

Interaction with the guests is limited. We will introduce ourselves to you upon arrival, give you a tour of the suite and property, give you information about Ohio City and Restaurant locations, hand you the keys and the front door and garage door codes, and answer any questions you may have.

If you desire to use the fire pit, we will start the fire and make sure you have wood for burning. You'll have to provide your own marshmallows, Reeses Cups, Hershey bars, and Gram Crackers for your Smores, however.

We live on the second floor, so if there are any problems or questions we are immediately available.

The Neighborhood

Ohio City is a great place to live and visit! Other than times away for continued education, I have lived here since 1978. What a transformation witnessed over these 36 years. It has gone from a run down, crime infested environment, to an exciting mixture of cultures, venues, and experiences.

W. 25th St. and Lorain Ave. were once full of closed boarded up buildings where the average person would not venture to walk after dark. Today they are a constant motion of activity; restaurants, West Side Market, free concerts at Market Square, coffee shops, breweries, athletics at St. Ignatius High School, retail shops!

Scattered throughout our community are bike paths, urban gardens, and unique shops, like glass blowing at the "Bubble," personalized monogram bats from "Johnnyville Slugger," and micro breweries, where you'll find the finest brew ever!

Come and experience renovated landmark homes, eclectic coffee shops, museums, libraries, historical churches, Lake Erie, Edgewater Park, golfing at one of the Metro Park golf courses, the beautiful Cuyahoga River, Downtown Cleveland, Horseshoe Casino, the Indians and Browns stadiums, the Cavaliers arena,Tower City Mall, and so much more.

Getting around

On-site garage parking is included with your stay.

Access to downtown by car is extremely easy and fast, with plenty of parking for all the various venues in Cleveland. Taxis are available and dependable, and bus routes run regularly to downtown Public Square and beyond.

The Rapid Transit rail system has a stop conveniently located a short walk away (W. 25th St. and Lorain Ave, by the West Side Market) with stops at Cleveland Hopkins Airport (CLE) and downtown Tower City.

Cleveland has become a very bike friendly city with marked bike lanes for safe riding. So be sure to bring your bikes! it is a great way to tour the city. Most everything is accessible by bike, and if it's too far away, bikes are permitted on public transportation (bicycle rentals are available from local bike shops nearby).

Other Things to Note

This suite comfortably accommodates one or two people. We do not have the necessary bedding for more than that. But, if a guest understands these limitations and desires to have extra overnight guests stay with them, we will provide a futon daybed, but you will be responsible for providing all sheets, blankets, and pillows. There will be an extra $10 charge each night for an extra guest. No more than TWO additional guests will be permitted! The guest making the reservation for The Forty-O-Five Place is responsible for including the TOTAL number of people staying when they make their reservation.

A business office area is provided with internet and printer access.

A minimum of three days advance notice, prior to arrival date, must be made by potential guests.

We have a folder listing many of the venues located around Cleveland for guests to visit, as well as a listing of links to various places to visit on the computer.

  • Don was an amazing host. Anything you can think of needing, he has already thought of. Don is very easy to deal with and was more than accommodating with a special request. This apartment exceeds any expectations you could have. The history of the place only adds to the beauty of it.
The location of the apartment is perfect. Just a short drive (10 minutes) and you are in downtown Cleveland. It is in walking distance to the famous West Side Market.
    We will definitely be back!

  • This is definitely one of the best places out there, I highly recommend Don's place, you get what you see and more. The home is beautifully designed and very comfortable, the host knowledgeable and welcoming, and the location is probably one of the best in Cleveland. My family and I loved it, we know where we're staying our next visit.

  • I had a lovely stay at The Forty-O-Five Place. It was my first home coming trip to Cleveland where I've been calling home for 38 years. I knew all the corners of Cleveland and chose this place for 10 day visit. It is the location: near downtown, close to sports complexes, eateries, theater districts, and not far from the museums and the orchestra. The area is safe (it was not the safest area 20 years ago) and quiet. If you want to explore the city of Cleveland, it's the perfect place.
The place is a spacious one bedroom with a nice kitchen and amenities. You can buy fresh products from the nearby West 25th St. Market and cook heathy and delicious meal. It's a hip place. If I am nit-picking, it's a little dimmer than the picture, and the upstair foot steps sound very close.
    I'll come back again.

  • What a wonderful way to experience one of Cleveland's best neighborhoods. Don's hospitality and attention to detail is impeccable, and my mother and I had everything we could ask for during our visit. We walked to nice meals and the market every day, and enjoyed the quiet, landscaped backyard space as well. The Forty-O-Five place is also great for architecture lovers who will find the building's past life as a carpet cleaning company interesting.

    Response from Don:

Hi Jen. Thanks for the insight on the toilet! As soon as the present host leaves, I'll check it out. I have a feeling the flapper is not letting enough water go through.

  • We had a lovely stay at Forty-O-Five place in the middle of May. The weather was pretty uncooperative the first day but we went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and to the nearby West Side Market. Both were amazing. The rental was beautiful, clean, and Don was extremely helpful and accommodating. My only suggestion, since we cooked in the first night (after buying incredible fish, vegetables, and pasta from the market), is that the kitchen could use a little more cookware. But we easily managed, and besides that we had everything we needed (and a few breakfast treats from the host - bagels, fruit, cream cheese). Plus, there is a little corner grocery nearby that has last minute incidentals, ice, beer, etc. The neighborhood is great! Residential, yet lots of cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops all within easy walking distance. The Great Lakes Brewery is nearby. We drove over to see The Christmas Story House and then later walked to an Indians game (the park is wonderful). Later that evening, Don set up a fire pit in the backyard for us to enjoy. It was a fantastic first time trip and we hope to visit again soon.

    Response from Don:

Hi Christine! Thanks for the insight on the cookware! I am always looking for ways to improve on my guest's stay. Next time you come, it will be stocked with some pretty neat stuff!

Glad you guys really took advantage of the environment...Cleveland has a lot to offer.

  • Do yourself a favor, just Book it (you can thank me after you visit the place). It is absolutely phenomenal and the host Don is exceptionally accommodating and helpful. We even had a party of about 15 people come over one night and everyone was just stunned by the place and kept taking pictures everywhere! Don even provided us with extra tables and chairs for a small fee. The suite also includes a table tennis and larger lounge in the back area which is perfect for entertaining larger groups. The backyard is SO beautiful with spectacular lighting and a nice small pond! We had an exceptional time there and the location is fantastic! We walked to Momocho (amazing mexican place) for dinner on Friday night (place was packed) and then to Le Petit Triangle Cafe for the best crepes I have ever had in my life on Saturday morning!! It's also walking distance to W25th Westside market and the nightlife there...So please stop reading and go book're not going to find a better place or as gracious a host in Cleveland. Well worth your money. The only warning is that it's a one bedroom, but Don also added a sleeper sofa in the living room so it could easily sleep 3 people if needed. He is currently working on renovating the backroom and might have more rooms in the future, but I am definitely booking this place again when I get back to Cleveland just to see what else Don has done with it. All our friends were just WOWed...Thanks for sharing your suite with us Don!

  • We have stayed at numerous airbnb accomodations in the past but we agree that Don's accomodations are the best in terms of space, taste, décor, amenities, location and his willingness to help.
Ohio City is a wonderful up-and-coming neighborhood and we wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Cleveland.
The building is phenomenal, unique, historical, and even larger than the photos.

  • Book this place now. Don't even hesitate. Don was an amazing host and his space is absolutely incredible: it's in a great location walking distance to restaurants and the famous Great Lakes Brewery, its also large, immaculately kept, well-designed, has everything you'd need, and is visually stunning. You can tell that Don really enjoys hosting people. He warmly welcomed me and showed me around the space and described how he had been renovating the space (which is a former warehouse). He had also, very thoughtfully, had some bagels for me, a sausage from the local market where his wife works, and even had a fresh container of half and half in the fridge for my coffee. Truly, these are the types of hosts and spaces that make AirBnB something special. You won't regret staying here. Thanks Don!

    Response from Don:

Boy Mike, you made it sound like it's the Ritz Carlton! Thanks for the kind words...and you're right, I really enjoy hosting people here.

Thanks again! See you next time.

  • Don and his wife are excellent hosts! Don greeted us upon our arrival and provided a wonderful introduction to the historic neighborhood. The loft space is warm and inviting and beautifully renovated! In the morning we met Don at the incredible West Side Market and he helped us select some delicious Hungarian meats for the holidays. I look forward to staying here anytime I'm in the Cleveland area. Thanks Don!

My wife and I have been married for 29 years, have two children who are now married, and our home is a 12000sf warehouse (used to be a carpet cleaning company) located in the historic Ohio City district in Cleveland, OH. My occupation is as an architectural and product designer. We enjoy a good movie, having lunch together at some of the local restaurants, bike riding, or pleasant road runs through the neighborhood. I enjoy photography, designing and renovating buildings, and my wife and I both enjoy exercising. I've lived in this community since 1978, and actively participate in its transformation as a historical district. Our building is quite unique in the fact that it's, first of all, so large, and secondly, because there is no other space like it in Ohio City. It has been used for various media backdrops, (wedding photography, interview settings, major network filming). We are fairly private people, and as hosts are very respectful of the same consideration for guests. The suite we have available is on the first floor and is a complete warehouse type unit. It consists of one bedroom, bathroom with shower/tub, kitchen, laundry room, large living room, sun room, dining room, private entrance, off-street parking. There is easy access to downtown, Lake Erie, the Browns and Indians stadiums, the Cavaliers arena, West Side Market, and award winning restaurants by foot, cab, bike, car, or public transportation.
