About this listing
Enjoy our beautiful garden and comfortable rooms. The suite includes a breakfast room and two bedrooms. It is one flight upstairs to the bathroom. Our quiet neighborhood is a quick 10-minute walk to Pearl Street Mall and the Boulderado Hotel.
Our space is clean, private, spacious, and very comfortable. The suite contains one room with a queen bed plus and adjoining room with a full-sized futon (upgraded for comfort). The two rooms can be separated by a sliding shoji-screen wall. In addition to the two sleeping rooms, the suite contains a sunny breakfast room with a bistro table, small fridge, coffee maker, microwave and garden view. A variety of cereals (including gluten-free options), hard-boiled eggs, and coffee/tea will be available along with occasional seasonal offerings. You will have to be able to negotiate stairs because there are both outside steps and an internal staircase to reach the private (used ONLY by our guests) bathroom. (Please see description below regarding bathroom access).
The BnB suite has it's own entrance at garden level--from street-level you will descend down multiple steps to the backyard entrance. Our guests are welcome to use the backyard garden/gazebo for eating, relaxing, socializing. The private bathroom (guest use exclusively) is the only part of the suite that is located upstairs in the host-part of the house. It is about 10 feet from the top of the stairs and you will need to pass by our kitchen/living room to get there. We try to help our guests to feel a high-level of privacy and we use folding room-dividers at the top of the stairs to increase separation between our space and yours.
Interaction with Guests
We will be present during all stays in our home. We have lived in Boulder for over 30 years, know our way around, and are happy to interact or observe privacy at whatever level our guests desire.
Our neighborhood is quiet and tucked-away; even many long-time Boulderites don't know it is here, in the heart of downtown! Because we are so close to Pearl St. with it's many restaurants, Farmer's Market, and music venues, you can walk just about anywhere you want to go.
We live on a hill so coming home is always an uphill walk. To get to the SKIP or HOP buses (to take you to the University or Chautauqua Park) it is a 10-minute walk downhill to Broadway bus stops. We provide off-street parking in our driveway. Our location is considered one of the best in Boulder; you can get everywhere from here without a car!
Other Things to Note
While we do not allow guest-pets, a visit with us means that you will get to know sweet Caile ("kay-lee"), our 13 year-old golden retriever/chow mix. She is very mellow but definitely likes to meet and greet everyone who enters the house.
Ours is a quiet, non-smoking, drug-free home. We ask that you observe these limits while you are staying with us.
There are house-rules, along with additional information, posted in the breakfast room. Please take time to read these when you arrive. Thank you.
Laurie and Mark were Great! Laurie met us the day of our arrival and showed us around the studio. The garden studio is really spacious and the garden gazebo beautiful at night. We were a little hesitant at first about going upstairs to use the restroom, but Laurie put up screens as she stated she would and though we knew they were home, we felt fine about heading up to use the restroom reserved for us. We loved the homemade granola along with the fantastic fresh fruit and boiled eggs. All was much appreciated. We loved the closeness to downtown, even though we had a car, we used it rarely on this trip. The garden studio is ideally located in a residential neighborhood just a few blocks from downtown. We very much enjoyed our stay in Boulder and would recommend this listing to others who are interested in a lovely place to stay in a great town.
Mark and Laurie are very consiencous homeowners and have a lovey home and beautiful garden. The space was comfortable and well appointed. Extra touches like homemade granola and luxurious towels did not go unnoticed. Although we did have to go upstairs to use the bathroom, Mark and Laurie were careful to give us privacy. We never felt that we were in their way or that they were invading our space. They were wonderful hosts.
While in Boulder, we used B-cycles to get around and were very pleased. It was an easy system and Mark and Laurie's home was only a 10 minute walk from 2 different docking stations.
And what's a vacation without a little pampering? Not only did Tracy of Tracy's Facial and Stones provide a wonderfully relaxing facial treatment at a reasonable price, she even picked me up and dropped me off- a service she offered to out-of-town travelers. All in all, a great experience!
This place is adorable and very clean! Laurie is the best host - super thoughtful about everything! Location is perfect - walking distance to pearl and 10 min drive to Chautauqua park. My only note is if you are a light sleeper you may want to consider earplugs bc the floorboards above can get a little loud. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
Laurie was a wonderful host. She made us feel very welcome and the breakfast items were very nice with a large variety of different foods. She was very easy to work with leading up to our stay and she made sure she knew our preferences and any special needs we had. The description of the accommodations was accurate. We understood that the bathroom was upstairs but was also a private bathroom, and Laurie made sure to make us feel as comfortable as possible in her home.
The neighborhood and location was fantastic. It was quiet and only a short walk to Pearl St. We would definitely consider staying there again.
Laurie and Mark are very friendly and gracious hosts. Laurie even picked me up from the bus station when I arrived from Denver. The room is quite lovely, clean and comfortable, and in a very nice neighborhood that's walking distance to plenty of cool areas in Boulder. Laurie supplied cereal, fruit, milk and hard-boiled eggs that hit the spot in hungry moments.
As I mentioned to Laurie, some people might not realize based on the description that the bathroom is actually up the stairs, inside Laurie's house. So in that sense it's not particularly private, and getting to it in the middle of the night felt a little awkward to me, as it's close to their bedroom and kitchen.
I'd reiterate what other guests have said about being wary if you're a light sleeper. The ceiling of the bedroom is the floor of Laurie's home, and they seem to get up early, so you can hear the footfalls.
I felt extremely welcomed by Laurie and Mark- and nurtured by the customized breakfast foods - in this private suite (with exquisite garden. ) Their place was spacious, clean, oh so comfortable, and artfully well-appointed. We had everything we could possibly need. I loved being close to the parts of boulder we were interested in shopping and dining. (Pearl st) The place was even better than described.
We loved our stay with Laurie and Robin. The breakfast room looks out onto their beautiful backyard garden where we enjoyed our morning coffee and a glass of wine in the evening. The suite is spacious, and includes thoughtful and welcome touches such as homemade granola, coffee, tea and other breakfast foods as well as snacks. Pearl street is a short and scenic walk from the house. Laurie and Robin were friendly, but not at all intrusive. We hope to stay with them again.
