The Space

Live like the Smith Family Robinson! Super seclusion (neighbors can't see in!) makes this enchanting hillside home feel like a quiet cabin! High ceilings, wood burning stove, and abundant light give the home a great energy with comfy couches and an open kitchen being the heart of the home. Master bed has CA king memory foam bed and master bath has clawfoot tub with views. 2nd downstairs bedroom has its own bathroom, and house is separated with living area up and sleeping area down. Office upstairs has 100 inch projector tv for movies, and can be used as 3rd bedroom. Big deck is perfect for your morning coffee or sunset steak. Kitchen is well stocked as we love to eat! 7 minute walk to downtown that has 3 live music venues nightly, bars, a dozen restaurants, parks, movie theater, cafes, shops, and a brewery. 2 grocery stores within walking distance make cooking at home nice and easy. Clean 6 person hot tub is hidden from view under towering redwood grove. It will be hard not to relax once you come visit the Acacia Tree House!

The Neighborhood

Great energy, great people, great vibe. Super quiet dead-end street with almost no cars, with the neighbors mainly long time families. From the Coffee Roastery to Iron Springs brewery, nightly live music venues (3!), and the outdoor patio at Sleeping Lady (live music nightly as well) there is plenty to do in town, which is only 7 minute walk away. Epic road and mountain cycling from the front door. If you want to take a short drive, there is hiking galore in the Mount Tamalpais watershed, or you can go to Stinson Beach (30min), Bolinas Beach (30 min, surfing), Tomales Bay Oysters (30min, oyster capital of the west coast! also great kayaking!), Sonoma/Napa wine tasting (1hr) and San Francisco is about a 30 minute drive if you want to get to the city for the day. The Larkspur Ferry will take you on a great ride to San Francisco if you want to take a 10 min drive and get some great site seeing in!

Getting around

Walk to bus stop that will take you to San Francisco. Larkspur Ferry is 10 min drive then 30 min (beautiful) ferry ride. SFO airport is 50 min drive, and Oakland airport is about the same.

  • We had a great time at Chris's place. House instructions were great, and Chris's availability was perfect. Fairfax is a trippy town, in many ways like going back to the 1960s and 70s. This was our first time doing AirBnB, we've never stayed in someone else's home that way before, and we decided it would take a little bit more getting used to for us personally to be fully comfortable. That's just a total personal comfort thing. For those who don't mind the slight sense of invading someone else's home that way, we say go for it, great host, great place, great time. Thanks Chris!

  • Thanks Chris & Claire for letting us stay at your place for the weekend! It was just like the listing--the outside was an isolated retreat and the inside was full of modern comfort.

Chris was extremely helpful throughout the entire reservation process. He promptly answered all of our questions, and he checked in before the reservation to make sure all of our questions were answered.

The listing stated that the driveway is steep, and it's really steep! We ended up parking in the other suggested parking locations, which worked out fine.

The living room was spacious, even with the large, comfy sofas, and the master bedroom has a massive bed. Even though they say it's a King size, it feels much larger! The side room upstairs was extremely comfortable and cozy. There was a projector, so we could all enjoy watching some movies at the same time. The view outside is magnificent even though it was obscured by the bad weather, but that was unfortunate timing on our part.

    Would come again!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Chris & Claire's. The house was beautiful and well equipped and stocked! The hot tub was a great bonus. A short drive from San Francisco to a well hidden gem in Marin.
The house was in walking distance to downtown Fairfax, and we were able to enjoy the nightlife without driving! Live bands at local bars were great.

Chris was very quick to respond and very helpful. Highly recommend this home to others looking for weekend getaways.

  • The place was spacious yet cozy. We enjoyed the wonderful living room with its views of mountains and trees – a great place to relax and be in nature.

  • We had a wonderful time during our stay at Chris's Redwood Retreat. We had complete privacy, and family in town enjoyed coming over for dinner. It was the perfect place to repair to after a long day, whether by ourselves, or with guests.

Chris was responsive and great to communicate with; he was very helpful when I called with questions during our stay.

We LOVED the house and had enough room for my brother-in-law to stay there, too, without everybody having to step on each other's toes. Not to mention, the hot tub was great.

  • Chris and Claire's place delivered a truly memorable experience for me and my friends. I have only positive things to say about the house and the town, Fairfax, as a first time visitor.

House is really big– two bedrooms on the lower floor, space to lounge in the living area and kitchen upstairs. We made use of the kitchen and grill outside, and it was well-stocked as promised. Sectional couch in living room has plenty of seating and we watched a movie in the den using the projector. So cool!

Beds were comfortable and bathrooms en suite for each.

Hot tub outside – enough said. To add, it seems pretty new and the jets were awesome.

Fairfax is a cute town nestled in Marin with easy access to the North Bay– we had oysters in Tomales Bay enjoyed the shops and food nearby in town.

To me, this is a true "Airbnb" experience. It is not only a vacation rental– people live here, that's part of the amazing charm. If you're looking for something impersonal and sterile, look elsewhere. If you want to find a real home (whether that means pictures on the walls, plants, or the little things like cooking oil or a wine opener), you're in luck.

I appreciate their sharing it with us, and congrats on their new addition to the family. Thanks again!

  • Chris was a great host and took great care to share all info well ahead of arrival and make us feel right at home. I called him with a question during our stay and he was extremely responsive and helpful then as well.

The listing is accurate as shown. House was very clean, well-kept, spacious, well-ventilated, secluded, and had an amazing view looking out towards the mountains and surrounded by trees. Very serene and relaxing.

The kitchen was great and had all the standard equipment needed for our massive feast through the weekend. The bathrooms were stylish, and the rooms downstairs very cozy with super comfy beds. The office is absolutely perfect for boardgames and listening to music. And the hot tub -- words don't do it justice!

Overall, it's in a beautiful, secluded neighborhood (and the neighbors we encountered were all very friendly and helpful). I went with a small group of friends from SF, and it made for a perfect weekend getaway. I suggest stopping by Sol Food in San Rafael on the way for some delicious puerto rican food, and there are nice hiking trails within 15-20 minute drive from the house.

  • We had a really nice time at Chris's place! The house is tucked up away in the woods, the deck is great for hanging out and the hot tub is a great addition. They left us plenty of towels and even a bottle of wine from the area.

I will try anything twice! Love to cycle, feed my friends and family, hike, kayak fish, backpack, and surf. I love to smoke meat (have a 50 pound smoker!) and one day wish to have my own BBQ diner. Our home is full of love and very cozy, and we hope you agree. Eat, drink, and be merry!
