About this listing
Beautiful, newly decorated and very unusual cottage with a garden, situated in a magical quiet little road in one of the most exciting areas of London full of cafes, bars and art galleries. Central london is a short bus, train or tube ride away.
My home is available to rent while I'm away, which is quite often. I've lived here for four years and I really love the house, which is a terraced worker's cottage built in 1810. Since I moved in the house has been completely modernised and has a brand new kitchen and bathroom. The house is not on a road, rather a small pathway off Camberwell Grove, which makes it very secluded and safe, and not at all like living in the middle of the city, even though its about 2 miles south of central London. There are seven other cottages and the neighbours are very friendly. The house would be perfect for 1-2 people, there is a second bedroom, although I would like to use that to store my things in while I am away. I have an extra mattress so could sleep 3 at a push.
You will have access to the whole house and garden although I'd like to keep my things in the second bedroom.
Interaction with Guests
I won't be there but will arrange for somebody to let you in, show you around and give you some advice about things to do in the area and how to get around.
Camberwell Grove is generally agreed to be the the nicest residential street in South London. Its a long leafy road with beautiful houses. Camberwell itself is a little less refined, but the area feels really alive and it is safe. Within a few minutes walk you can find extremely good restaurants such as the Crooked Well (French/English) and Angels and Gypsies (Spanish), both consistently judged among the best restaurants in London - make sure you reserve a table! As well as this you will find good local italian, sweedish, chinese, mongolian, thai, greek and turkish restaurants all within a few minutes walk. You will always find something going on in this area, from Jazz in the crypt of the church (every friday) to an art exhibition organised by local arts students - I won't be surprised if you don't want to leave!
The area is extremely well served by buses, the nearest bus stop is about 2 mins walk away. Buses go to almost anywhere in London. Trafalgar square takes 25-30mins.
The local station, Denmark Hill, is 12mins walk away and trains go to victoria (8 mins) and through Blackfriars to Farringdon and St Pancras. This station is now on the London Overground line (orange line) which goes to Shoreditch and Clapham Junction. The tube is a short bus journey away at Oval (northern line) or Vauxhall (victoria line) (10-15mins by bus)
Other Things to Note
I have very friendly and low maintainance cat. Please let me know if this is a problem. If you would be happy to feed her, that would be great...otherwise I can get a neighbour to do it.
We had a wonderful time in Richard's cottage. The perfect base for our short stay in London. Richard met us at the door and was super friendly and hospitable. As someone who used to live in Camberwell I can attest to the great location... it's very easy to get into central on the bus (or you can switch on the tube if you'd prefer). The Camberwell/Peckham/Dulwich areas also have great pubs, bars, and restaurants if you want to keep it local. The cottage itself was clean with a useable fireplace, large kitchen and a shower with excellent water pressure. We also enjoyed the presence of two cats who were very friendly and the wine that was left for us! Will certainly recommend to all friends and use again next time we're in London. Thanks Richard!
We had the most amazing stay in Camberwell Cottages!! I cannot wait to come back! The cottage was perfect and the location was ideal for travel into the central and east London. Thank you for making food recommendations! We ate at Silk Road on the Saturday night and were astounded by the delicious treats and great prices! Also, your cats were lovely company and were really snuggly on both evenings and your neighbours really friendly! All in all, a perfect London trip!
Georgie and Colin :)
The cottage is super cosy, very englisch-style. We have enjoyed staying there. The fireplace is amazing, was very romantic and warm. Richard has two lovely cats, for us it was a nice surprise :). There is everything you need in the neighborhood, and also you can easily get to center with bus and overground. I highly recommend Richards cottage!
Ett riktigt mysigt hus i bra område! Helt perfekt för 2 st. Mycket trevlig vistelse och inget att klaga på!
This Place is definitely an outstanding gem!
So lovely and cosy.
With a very comfy bed, a fireplace in the living room and also in the bedroom, the neat backyard and a relaxing bathroom with shower and tub it made us feel almost VIP. ;)
There was nothing we desired, the cottage is very well equipped, clean and tidy.
And the cats are soo cute!
Cuddling with them on the comfy couches watching the fire was so relaxing after our daytrips in bustling London.
It is very well located and close to buses, tube, shops and supermarkets.
We met Richard at the door and he showed us around and explained everything to us.
He is very friendly and hospitable, the communication was easy and when we had a question he managed all, even though he was away.
This Place is absolutely recommendable.
We loved staying there and want to come back!
Thank You, Richard for all your efforts in making us feel home!
We had a wonderful stay in this lovely, light-filled cottage, with Richard being very accommodating, welcoming, and communicative. The location is very well serviced by frequent buses that are a 15 minute-ride to a tube station, or a 40-minute commute to London's centre. There is a great variety of restaurants just around the corner, and the neighbourhood is vibrant and diverse.
We did not meet Richard but he gave us clear directions and his friend Henriques looked after us very well. His cottage is very charming and well equiped. It is close to local restaurants and shops and has plenty of transport options. We enjoyed staying here.
