Other things to note

Our village is still mostly agricultural and woodcarving village and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Kemenuh village.

You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals. But most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying.

You'll go for a walk in the village and probably see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight – although you may not approve, it's very much a part of village culture. If you want you can wager and maybe win!

There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $5) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $5 per day. There's parking at the house. Please note although the airport is only about 20 miles away it can take about an hour and a half in rush hour.

The place was ok, on the plus side it is in a village which was good as it gave us the opportunity to explore the a little more authentic Bali. The house is Balinese style which is beautiful and located 20 minutes from centre Ubud by motorbike (traffic is terrible in Bali so you always have to take it into account). On the other hand I feel the place was generally overpriced for what you get, breakfast is tiny, we only got offered the coconuts one day even though we stayed 3, we did not get offered any rice field paddy, the shower was super cold and personally felt that the language barrier made it to difficult for me to engage in the woodcarving. Not their fault probably I should speak Balinese but if they are going to offer that as an attraction for tourist they should make an effort to be there to translate. Bawan and his wife are nice people and wish them the best.

Wayan's place is a great hidden gem. It's a bit outside the city so it's nice and quiet and the people in the area are very friendly and helpful. Wayan offered transport and guidance for site to see and things to do for a reasonable price and is a very helpful and friendly host. Would definitely stay again and hope to go back one day.

A great place to finish off a 2 month trip through Indonesia! Wayan was a really helpful and welcoming host. His family's instruction on woodcarving and making offerings were highlights. The homestay is also located close to Wayan's villa, so you can also spend the day relaxing by the pool! Amazing! Finally, be sure to take a walk around the villa through the rice terraces and talk with some local farmers and neighbours. Thanks for a great stay!

WE had an amazing stay here at wayan 's place, really friendly family, nice house, nice pool, amazing area with rice fields, local people, waterfalls and river... and the list goes on ! You can also learn to woodcrave, which is nice I definitely recommand

Wayan was a great host. It was my first time ever in Bali. He picked me up at the airport and took me for a one day tourist tour (2 temples, waterfall, monkey forest, silver village, dance in the village, Luwak coffee plantage) all for a small fee, but that was ok and very convenient for me as a single traveler. Always ask what he charges for his extra services, so you know in advance. Every morning I got a small local breakfast with coffee. Wayan's family is really nice, it felt like living with the family. The private terrasse had a amazing area for mediation and chill out. Wayan's wife runs a small restaurant with local prices right across the street where I usually ate lunch or dinner. I stayed in the family house. the room was clean. only cold water shower (one indoor, one outdoor) but that was ok, because it was pretty warm in general anyway:) Wayan also has a villa, not far from the family home, where I could use the pool and have warm showers if needed. (There he also has some more luxury apartments/rooms if you are looking for that) It was the perfect place for me to relax and calm down from my daily life, before I continued my travels to the more lively areas Canggu and Seminyak

Hi, I'm Wayan Widnyana. I live in Kemenuh in East Ubud, with my family of wood carvers.

One interesting thing about me is that I worked for 8 years in the US as Japanese Chef! I am happy to be back with my family in Bali and with my beautiful new bride.

I have several different types of accommodation available, from private, luxury villas to rooms in my own home where you can experience the authentic Balinese way of life. Come learn wood carving and Balinese cooking with my family and help prepare for a Saraswati or Galungan ceremony with us. Or take a bicycle ride around our village to see the beautiful rice paddies and Petanu river. Definitely, you will leave with many cherished memories and new friends!
