Convenient to I-81 is our relaxing, quiet townhouse with a bedroom upstairs for you. This tri-level end-unit will be perfect for one or two guests. Just 5 minutes drive away, you'll find RMH, JMU, groceries, restaurants, and a movie theater.

The Space

A beautiful and comfortable townhouse convenient to lots of sights in the Shenandoah Valley. This is an easy home base for visiting James Madison University, Shenandoah National Park, or the vareity of local food and festivals nearby. Our gentle giant dog Porter will be happy to play with you, or happy to sleep privately, whichever you prefer. The bedroom is up 2 flights of stairs, so guests must be able to navigate those safely. In addition, this bedroom rental is not recommended for those with pet allergies.

Guest Access

There is a very well-equipped shared kitchen which can be used, but cleaning up dishes will be up to the guest (dishwasher is available). Washer and dryer are available in the basement with free and clear soap and softener. Wireless internet is available in the house, and if you would like to use a computer, we can set you up.

Interaction with Guests

Between work and school, we stay quite busy. We are likely to be in and out of the house. If we are travelling, you may end up having the house to yourselves! We are available for questions anytime, and we are happy to provide suggestions to you ahead of time if we will be unable to meet you.

The Neighborhood

The complex is quiet with a basketball court and large open green spaces. We are convenient to I-81, JMU, the hospital, and downtown, as well as the Coors and Merck manufacturing facilities near Elkton, VA. Only 30 minutes into the Shenandoah National Park, 20 minutes to Massanutten Resort, or 50 minutes to Charlottesville.

Getting around

A car or bicycle is highly recommended. Harrisonburg does have a public bus system, but the closest bus stop is a bit far (1.7 mi, at RMH). We are very near Port Republic and Stone Spring, which are good roads for biking (bike lanes available). Excellent country biking is nearby in Keezletown or Dayton, and mountain biking trails at Hillandale Park are close.

Other Things to Note

The hosts interests include local biking, visiting nearby breweries and wineries, and cooking. In addition, we love our local parks and caverns. We are happy to give suggestions for anything you're looking for.

  • We were there to visit Shenandoah National Park and it was an overall great stay. It was around 30 minutes to the Swift Run Gap entrance station. The room was beautiful, comfortable and very clean. The kitchen was also clean and there was an abundance of kitchen utensils. Porter was very well behaved and the hosts were helpful and friendly.

  • Bonnie was very friendly and the bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The accommodation is very close to James Madison University and Bonnie provides suggestions for places to have dinner and breakfast. The restaurant she recommended was superb!

  • The room was nice and clean, and worth the value. Although the hosts were not around much, everything was taken care of and communication was seamless. Towels were provided and were clean (and soft!).

  • We stayed with Bonny and Jeff as a stop on our road trip to South Carolina. The room is clean and bright, the bathroom is spotless, and their dog Porter is adorable. Jeff is very polite, and although we did not meet Bonny, she communicated perfectly prior to our arrival. We definitely plan on staying again.

  • Bonnie's place was perfect - exactly as described, in a quiet neighborhood and a beautiful townhome. We were really impressed with how well-designed and clean our bedroom and bathroom were. We had to come in late because we had been driving all day, but it was perfect for us because we could let ourselves in without having to bother Bonnie and her partner too much, which was really convenient. She was also really good-natured about us coming so late and very accommodating. Overall, a great experience. Thanks, Bonnie!

  • Bonnie & Jeff have a bright, clean, lovely townhome that we loved. Their adorable dog, Porter, was a welcome addition and gets along with just about anyone. They were all gracious with their space and the bed is DIVINE. I would definitely stay here again!

  • Bonnie's place was exactly as described - bright, clean, modern - and she was completely accommodating to my late arrival. I arrived around midnight, basically just stopping to sleep in the midst of a road trip, and had a wonderfully restful night. The room was lovely, and the bed incredibly comfortable!

  • The bedroom was immaculate and comfortable. It was far nicer than some of the hotels I have stayed in! The photo is exactly what you will find, with fresh towels, a VERY comfortable bed, and even bottled water. The bathroom in the hall is all yours, since Bonnie and her husband use the one in the master bedroom. You have use of the rest of the living area as well, and because your hosts are often not home, it is almost like having the place to yourself.

The large dog really is quite friendly and well-behaved. I enjoyed having a little canine company when I arrived. He is quiet while you sleep, as is everyone in the house. I only briefly saw Bonnie's husband, and never saw or spoke to Bonnie, but she left me a lovely note, and I had no problem getting in or out or anything else.

The neighborhood is very quiet - a new complex of townhouses. However, it is rather far away from downtown and the normal activities of life. That may suit you well, but it is something to be aware of. I had no problem finding the townhouse, but you do have to drive on several dark, two-lane rural-ish roads to get there, so I would suggest doing the first trip during daylight. (But that might just be me.)

  • Welcomed the comfy bed and Netflix-enabled TV after a long drive. Porter (the large dog) was very well behaved. Keep me company while relaxing. Very nice community, Bonnie's directions were spot on. Thanks for the driveway spot!

Young professional couple living in Harrisonburg, VA. Originally raised in Texas but loving Virginia. We enjoy cooking, biking, arts and crafts, music, and reading (especially sci fi). One dog which (unfortunately) usually stays home while we travel. We love traveling and road trips, as well as exploring locally in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. My husband is currently working on his Doctor of Physical Therapy and I work as an engineer at a nearby manufacturing plant. That means we don't spend as much time at home as we would like, but instead book our vacation days with fun activities and travels.
