No visit to Airlie Beach is complete without some type of visit to the islands, coral and Whitehaven Beach. There is large number of tour products with a couple of special ones that we prefer. There is also a couple of hidden treasures that we can tell you about.
Downtown Airlie Beach is "a buzz" with a main street upgrade bringing people, eateries, bars, and much more back to town for a truly enjoyable small tourist town experience. There is also the waterfront, beach and the picturesque Airlie Beach lagoon pool adjacent to the Coral Sea on the foreshore.
There is so much to see and do and I personally invite you to make the most of it from my home.

Interaction with Guests
Everyone in the house is friendly and interested in sharing a story.
The locale is suburban. Its a cul de sac with friendly people around us. Airlie Beach has a very low crime rate, and our area is super safe due to the geography.
Other Things to Note
Local Tours and Attraction
Ocean Rafting - About $140
Day trip to the Whitsundays, Snorkel, Whitehaven Beach.
The undisputed king of the day tours is "Ocean Rafting". They depart daily in fast boats for the islands. The crew are always great and they are the only buisiness that are allowed to take their boats INTO Hill Inlet, so you can step straight onto the beach in this magical place. Do the North Tour and you will also enjoy 2 snorkels, TYPICALLY including Mantaray Bay. which is one of the two best places in the islands to view Green Zone coral and a vast array of fish species. If you are really lucky, a large gentle Mauri Wrasse will come by to check you out.
Note: I had a guest who experienced these guys and another near identical operator. She said that Ocean Rafting were streets ahead for the product and the attitude of the crew.
GSL Aviation Island and Reef 1 hour flight - About $200
I have done this one myself and sent so many people to be amazed at what they see. Picked up by GSL you are taken to a small airport near Shute Harbour. From there you take off and TYPICALLY fly out over Shute toward Hamilton Island. Whitsunday Island to the Left and curve around to take in the length of Whitehaven Beach. Then a circle over Hill Inlet so both sides get a view of the stunning sand sculpture below. Then to the Reef about 10 minutes away. Past Heart Reef, and then Hardy Reef and the outer island pontoon, back toward the islands. Passing Northern end of Hook Island, you can see the reef fringing the islands, Hayman, Black, Langford Reef and then back to land. Try and get a seat toward the front of the plane if you are prone to lift aircraft sickness. Promise to vomit quietly if you don't get a frontish seat. :)
Mantaray is the best day boat to go on for diving. Operating by the small company Whitsunday Dive Adventures, they go to great places most days.
Airlie Beach Lagoon
In the centre of town and on the absolute water front, its a chlorinated pool with lifesavers, beach, bridge, children's area, BBQs and surrounded by 100's of international types laying in the sun each day.
A 40 minute drive takes you to a beach front community that is lost in time. They got mobile cell phone service a couple of years ago which has changed the place completely (not). There is a pretty beach, swim enclosure and the opportunity to snooze under shady trees. Take a picnic - the one shop has very little. Coming back in the late afternoon should get you some Kangaroo sightings.
(website hidden) Mount Rooper Track (near Shute Harbour)
The Great Whitsunday Walk has a 45 min loop, a 2 hour walk and a 27 km 2 night option (about 20 minutes out of town)
The film "Australia" was part filmed in Bowen. They needed a town that looked like 1940's Darwin, and they found it :) There are some nice beaches, and a favourite picnic spot I have - ask about it. Grab some seafood from the co-op at the marina.
Small rural town that is mostly harmless. Girls must visit "Colour Me Crazy" for all sorts of nic nacs and colourful fashions.
I have been told of a place for Croc spotting, but only seen them once from 4 times. Will be wallabies along the way.
Everyone in the house is friendly and respectful. Smoking is ok outside the house and (website hidden) often have theirs on the back patio over a chat.
Borrowed food to be replaced or paid for.
Although we never met John he prepared for our stay in every way. A wonderful stay in great accommodation.
We did not see John during our stay, but he arrange everything perfectly. Our quarter is clean and neat. Air condition is quiet and function well. John's friend picked us from airport and drop us to the door. He charged us the same as public transportation.
The location is outside of the town center. But $3.4 bus fair takes us to town. Bus stop is 3 min walk.
Thanks a lot.
We had a great stay in Johns house. Can totally reccommend it.
We had a good stay at John's. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable and the house is close to the bus stop which takes you into town in 10 minutes or so.
John was not there however had communicated regularly and was was very supportive with transport suggestions, etc.
John wasn't actually there when we stayed but his communication before our trip was great and his housemate Puneet was really helpful. The room was nice with a great bathroom. Had a few issues with the wifi.
The only downside to staying here was that it was a bit further out than we realised so we spent quite a bit on taxis in and out of Airlie.
Overall though, we had a great visit! Thanks for having us to stay :)
The reservation was canceled 3 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Great place. I felt very welcome!
Clean, nice people, good location. Very easy to come and go.
John boomed me the boat trip which was awesome and all the tips he gave us made my holiday much better.

I have hosted 450+ over the past 5 years at my home, on my boat and during travels using c ouch s urfing. At home in Airlie Beach I have made a room available for people to stay with me via airbnb and have had some great experiences.
I love to get close to the culture by meeting people, learning some language and trying the food ... and I look forward to meeting you!
Ocean Rafting is unquestionably the best one day tour for islands, Whitehaven Beach and snorkeling. Contact them direct in advance of your stay to ensure you can travel on the day of your preference.
Mangrove Jacks is part of the Airlie Beach Hotel. Serving a range of a la carte lunch and dinner specials, they have a wonderful array of wood fired pizzas. Be sure to check the Chicken and Brie.
Fancy some seafood? Fish D'vine is regarded as the finest fresh seafood in Airlie Beach. Associated with Fish D'Vine is the famous Rum Bar where you can get all manner of fancy beverages.
Known as the finest sunset view in town, the Whitsunday Sailing Club is a great place to have a meal with a fine selection served lunch and dinner. Drinks are well priced and many varied.
Continue to the end of Forestry Road for THE GREAT WHITSUNDAY WALK. You don't have to go the whole 28 km! There is a 45 minute loop in the rainforest, 7km return lagoon walk.
Want to see how Airlie Beach looked 40 years ago? Dingo Beach is a great afternoon drive. There is shady trees on the foreshore, sandy beach (at high tide), enclosure & kangaroo spotting along the way
This is my favourite place to snorkel. The western side of the island features a shelf of well preserved Green Zone coral. The island itself is small and pretty, a sea eagle nest too. Nemo lives there
All around Hook Island there are great places to snorkel. If you are lucky, Ocean Rafting or other reputable operator will take to a place like Mantaray Bay, Maureen's Cove or other amazing coral.
Whitehaven Beach is considered one of the top 5 beaches in the world. Accessible only by boat or aeroplane, the 99.9% silica sands are something that bedazzles the eyes and makes the perfect backdrop.
