Staying here is a true and honest tree house experience. Wind your way up three staircase levels meandering through the trunks to a spacious railed deck overlooking our surroundings of classic California countryside views. Enter the tree house to find a cozy space on two levels: twin bed/couch relaxing area downstairs and up a ladder to a comfy, nicely appointed and canopied queen bed in the loft. You'll have to be moderately agile with an adventurous spirit to get up there but it's worth it! One of the trunks juts right through the interior floor and the pitched roof and sways some in the wind. Three other trunks poke through the deck at various places. Windows on all sides, some of stained glass, and decks on three sides give you 360 degree views of vineyards, horse farms, rolling hills and forests. You can use the chemical potty in a separate toilet room in the tree house and/or the full rustic bathroom with shower in our barn not too far away. Find shelves full of reading matter, battery operated lighting and interesting touches throughout the space. Go back out on the deck, sit at a table, have a glass of wine and watch one of our lovely sunsets from 30 feet up in a tree! A great breakfast is served in a charming kitchen in the main house and we'd love to join you if so desired.
When not in the tree house explore our magical, very quiet and rural setting that's only 5 minutes from historic downtown Petaluma. It's also an easy drive to the incredibly beautiful Northern California Pacific coast and the Point Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma wine country areas or redwood forests if you prefer. Chileno Valley Road is a famous international bike riding route.
In the 1970's this property was Swallowtail Studios, a famous glass blowers cooperative. The Grateful Dead played in the big barn and hung out here...their manager lived just down the road. The barn is redwood, quite large and beautiful, with stained glass windows. It's suitable for events and is available for an extra fee.

Interaction with Guests
we very much like to get to know our guests, especially at breakfast!
1. you're up there high in the tree so we have to keep everything toned down...it's just for two adults max (no children, no pets) who want a quiet getaway.
2. no smoking, no flame of any kind...severe fire danger.
2. serious fire danger...no smoking of anything...no open flame of any kind.
3. we're really challenged for water here...short showers only please.
4. need to be careful on the stairs and on the ladder up to and down from the sleeping loft.
5. enjoy yourself!
The treehouse was nothing short of magical! It was truly a unique experience. My partner and I spent two nights here, and were blown away at Bill and Michelle's hospitality. Breakfast was outstanding, and they helped us plan our day. We can't wait to return!
Magical treehouse. Very peaceful. Great breakfast and hosts. Petaluma is a cute town. Thanks Michelle and Bill!
We were welcomed by Bill who was very friendly and who quickly, thoroughly and concisely ran us through what we needed to know about staying in the Treehouse.
The Treehouse itself was tiny, great fun, nicely appointed, had plenty of battery powered lights (no electricity) and interesting touches like a handwritten sign posted on the tree trunk that runs through the house advising us that there was a bird's nest above us, and that we might well hear chirping--which we did, all night. We laughed.
In the morning Michelle and Bill hosted a tasty breakfast and the only thing better than the food was the company, including two other folks who stayed in the other treehouse (there are two). Intriguing conversation among total strangers, and Bill and Michelle deserve great credit for setting the mood that made that possible.
What a wonderful experience with had at the Swallowtail Studio treehouse. Bob was there to great us when we arrived and show us around. Everything we could possibly need was supplied. The treehouse is warm and cozy (which this Florida girl was concerned about on a crisp and cool evening). We slept like babies to the lullaby of owls and the gentle creaking of the trees. Breakfast was delicious and made even better by delightful conversation with Michelle and Bob and another couple staying at their place. We look forward to returning again and again.
Bill and Michelle are very friendly. Their tree house is the best without "one of". I will definitely go there again and recommend to other people.
The tree house was so beautiful and magical. We had an amazing experience. We loved having breakfast with Michelle and Bill. The food was delicious. We hope to come back again and we will never forget our stay.
I've stayed in many Airbnbs (I work for the company) and this was hands down the best experience I've ever had! First, we got to sleep in a warm, cozy, beautifully decorated tree house and fall asleep to the sounds of nature. Second, Bill and Michelle cooked us a delicious breakfast and helped us plan our day in Petaluma. Third, the surrounding hills (including Helen Putnam park) are perfect for wandering and soaking in the outdoors. I can't wait to return (and to hopefully book the second tree house). I would give this an eleven out of ten. Incredible experience all around!
