Staying here is a true and honest tree house experience. Wind your way up three staircase levels meandering through the trunks to a spacious railed deck overlooking our surroundings of classic California countryside views. Enter the tree house to find a cozy space on two levels: twin bed/couch relaxing area downstairs and up a ladder to a comfy, nicely appointed and canopied queen bed in the loft. You'll have to be moderately agile with an adventurous spirit to get up there but it's worth it! One of the trunks juts right through the interior floor and the pitched roof and sways some in the wind. Three other trunks poke through the deck at various places. Windows on all sides, some of stained glass, and decks on three sides give you 360 degree views of vineyards, horse farms, rolling hills and forests. You can use the chemical potty in a separate toilet room in the tree house and/or the full rustic bathroom with shower in our barn not too far away. Find shelves full of reading matter, battery operated lighting and interesting touches throughout the space. Go back out on the deck, sit at a table, have a glass of wine and watch one of our lovely sunsets from 30 feet up in a tree! Breakfast is served in a charming kitchen in the main house and we'd love to join you if so desired.
When not in the tree house explore our magical, very quiet and rural setting that's only 5 minutes from historic downtown Petaluma. It's also an easy drive to the incredibly beautiful Northern California Pacific coast and the Point Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma wine country areas or redwood forests if you prefer. Chileno Valley Road is a famous international bike riding route.
In the 1970's this property was Swallowtail Studios, a famous glass blowers cooperative. The Grateful Dead played in the big barn and hung out here...their manager lived just down the road. The barn is redwood, quite large and beautiful, with stained glass windows. It's suitable for events and is available for an extra fee.

Great spot. Great breakfast. Great hosts. We expected it to be cold but it was perfect for a excellent night's sleep. Very cozy.
Bill and Michelle were awesome. The tree house was so much fun to stay in. Wonderful breakfast in the morning and great company. We highly recommend this place to everyone.
As a surprise for my girlfriend's birthday, I took her to the Tree House at Swallowtail Studios (she's an architect who dreams of building her own (tree) house)! It was a fantastic surprise and the perfect ending to a North Bay get-away. The tree house is absolutely charming, cozy, and stocked with all the pieces to make for an intimate trip. We had some rainy weather, but it was really lovely to hear the rain all around you while staying warm in the lofted bed. The property is situated in Petaluma farm-land, and was a lush escape from the city. Definitely wander around!
Michelle and Bill, as promised, are wonderful hosts. Join them for homemade breakfast, which included mimosas and great conversation.
I stayed at the treehouse for 6 nights and as the first solo long term guest it was a beautiful adventure. My first night two owls had a wonderful conversation high in the trees and breakfast was always lovely. Bill and Michelle are very attentive to even the smallest need. I will defintely stay there again in the future.
Michelle and Bill were very friendly and welcoming. We got a great vibe from them right off the bat. The treehouse was a sensational experience. Definitely needs to be done once in a lifetime. Breakfast = A-mazing!
The tree house was really cute! Bill was quite thorough in his orientation tour and pleasant. I somehow missed the part about the treehouse not having power. It was cold in the evening and we werent prepared. So we decided to leave without spending the night.
Staying in Michelle and Bill's Tree House was a absolutely wonderful experience. It was unique in every way that we had hoped for in a weekend away from the city. We were lucky enough to enjoy one day in the foggy and drizzly weather that makes you just want to stay inside to read and drink wine while the rain falls on the roof of your tree house. It was so cool to sit talking while you watch this giant tree trunk sway slightly back and forth in the middle of your room! When the sun goes down you can move up to the very comfortable loft bed, a queen size which requires a bit of dexterity to climb the ladder too, but is so cozy and warm that you end staying
There are windows all around the house so lot of light comes through and in the morning we were treated to beautiful sunshine coming down on all the rolling green hills around the property. It was that iconic Northern California setting with the bright green of the grass dotted with cows and horses all waking you up in the morning with a wonderful mix of sounds that was a great relief from our usual car alarms and ambulance sirens in San Francisco.
Michelle made a wonderful breakfast for us in the morning with a great variety of options to choose from. We had hot bread and blueberry jam with a big bowl of fresh fruit and bottomless coffees. Bill and Michelle seem like they have a wealth of knowledge about the area and it was very pleasant talking to them while we ate. The other guests had French Toast and Mimosas so that alone is worth us going back for!
I highly recommend spending a night or two at this property and we cannot wait to return and try out the cottages they also have for rent.
Thank you Bill and Michelle!
Bill and Michelle are fantastic hosts and really make you feel at home. The treehouse itself is small but super cozy and cute; sleeping in the cozy full-sized bunk was an adorable experience. Nearby Petaluma is a beautiful small California town and worth a visit; Bill and Michelle made fantastic recommendations too- Central Market is easily in the top three restaurants we've ever had.
Do note the bathroom with a shower is outside the tree a short walk away. There is a chemical toilet in the treehouse though.
We loved it and would love to come back in the summer. The next morning Michelle even made us breakfast and we had a lovely chat.
Excellent hosts. The treehouse was so sweet and just a short drive from a long list of wonderful restaurants, shops, and activities in downtown Petaluma. Bill and Michelle were awesome. Michelle even made us breakfast.
Highly recommend this spot for an awesome, relaxing getaway.
What considerate individuals Bill and Michelle are! When I had first booked the reservation, I expressed that the weather may be a concern to me. They stayed on top of it for me and kept me updated all the way through the day of our reservation. The morning of my scheduled stay, they gave me a call and said they took on a little more rain than expected and gave me the opportunity to cancel with a full refund - even though this was beyond the 24 hour cancellation period. I felt that their priority was enjoying my experience and I was very appreciative of that.
We ended up deciding to take on the weather and stay in the tree house. What a great decision! Everything they had mentioned was exactly accurate - it would be windy, the tree house would sway, there would be a leak, but the floor wouldn't get too wet, and the bed and couch area would be completely dry. They were honest and set our expectations perfectly.
Bill and Michelle were very friendly, kind, and considerate hosts. I look forward to coming back for Michelle's French Toast and Bill's bacon.
If you stay at the tree house, be sure to use the swing - even if its raining.
