The Space

Enjoy a bright and spacious air-conditioned second floor to yourself, with a 18 x 18' room with queen bed and private full bath. Located in close-in St. Matthews, a quiet tree-lined area 5 easy miles from the heart of the city, a 2-block walk to the bus stop serving downtown. There are several restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs less than a mile away.

Louisville offers many attractions--historic homes such as Locust Grove and Farmington; the Kentucky Derby, Louisville Slugger and Muhammad Ali Museums; the KY Center for the Arts, and the new YUM! arena. The Shelbyville Road shopping area, boutique-lined Frankfort Avenue, and the hip Bardstown Road and NULU districts are a short drive away.

Three hospitals are within 2 miles (Baptist East, Suburban, and the VA). The Presbyterian and Baptist seminaries are nearby.

The room is air-conditioned. There is Wi-Fi and a TV with DVD player (local channels, but no cable). There is a coffee maker and tea kettle in the room. Tea and coffee provided (filters in top drawer below coffee pot). Guests may use my kitchen to prepare breakfast or warm up a pizza. If you don't mind going down to a 1946 (unfinished) basement, you may also use the washer-dryer. There's an iron and board in the bedroom closet.

There are lots of towels, a small hair dryer and "generic" shampoo in the bathroom.

No smoking.
No pets, please.

Guest Access

Once you have checked-in and have the key to the front door--you may come and go as you wish. You enter into my living room, turn right immediately and go up the stairs. Room and private bath are on second floor.

Interaction with Guests

Usually brief chats--depending on the guest's schedule and mine.
I speak French --and will soon get around to translating this listing.

The Neighborhood

Quiet, tree-lined streets. Nice neighbors. Easy access to downtown via city streets, also easy routes to expressways. Guests may park on street during day, but please pull into my driveway overnite.

Getting around

Our public transit company is TARC. There is decent service to my area during the day--not so great in the evening. A cab ride from the Airport to my house is usually about $25 plus tip.

Other Things to Note

My rate is $50 per night Sunday thru Thursday, $60 for Friday and Saturday Saturday nights. Airbnb adds its booking fee.

  • Gorgeous, quiet neighborhood (email hidden) makes this the best place to stay in Louisville! We enjoyed the firm mattress and easy access to downtown, but we are most thankful for Harritte's recommendation about the restored Big Four pedestrian bridge - we walked along at sunset and had the best time. Little touches like a coffee machine in the room, plus private air conditioning made a positive difference. Oh, and she has VHS copies of Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid - what a treat! I only wish we had more time in town to get to know Harriette and explore culinary options.

Thanks for this generous review--how is that bourbon? or do you dare drink it?

  • Harriette (email hidden)! As a solo traveler who had a week to spend in Louisville, Harriet was a wealth of knowledge of things to do and places to eat! She is respectful of your space, but is also great to talk to and get to know.
The room is very spacious and has all the comforts of home. I would recommend staying with Harriette to anyone going through or visiting Louisville!

  • Harriette was the most gracious of hostesses! The room was beautiful and the perfect space to settle in after a long day. The neighborhood was adorable and close to plenty of local flavor. The conversation was outstanding. I would highly recommend anyone stay with Harriette at her fabulous BnB!

  • Harriette was wonderful! We were only in town a few hours, and I regret not being able to stay longer. She was very welcoming even when we drove in near midnight and was very helpful the next morning. She recommended Toast on Market, which we had for brunch and it was great!

You have the whole upstairs area to yourself and it's a very private and comfortable space. Full bath is provided and the whole thing is a very homey experience.

    We highly recommend!

Wow! Are you sure you aren't in marketing? Many thanks--glad Toast was good.
Tell Heather--I enjoyed meeting her too, but I usually just review the person on the booking.

  • Harriette was an incredible host. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome and at home. We essentially had the top area to ourself with the bedroom and the bathroom. The room itself was spacious, had a nice firm bed and a great cup of coffee! Harriette was flexible, allowed us to come and go as we pleased and graciously shared stories from her youth as we chatted over breakfast. The location was ideal (we had a car) with quick access to everywhere we wanted to go. Overall - I couldn't have asked (email hidden) to stay and ended up staying two nights instead of the planned one night!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Harriette's home. The room was spacious, comfortable, well-lit and homey. The room also had information about the local area and a coffee maker, both of which I appreciated. Harriette was welcoming when I arrived, and though we didn't see each other much during my short stay, she left notes when going out and was very accommodating, making sure to show me around, provide ample information, and answer my questions. I'm glad to have stayed here!

  • This was my first airbnb experience and it could not have been better. Harriette's home is in a beautiful neighborhood. The bedroom space was so lovely and she had many little extras to make me feel like a special guest. She was a kind and friendly host and I would definitely stay with her again.

  • I enjoyed staying at Harriette's home. The room was everything she described in the listing, clean, cozy and spacious. The bed is a sleep number so can be adjusted to an ideal level of firmness. She provides really good coffee too. I would definitely stay with Harriette again!
