this place was just like the pictures and more!! There's a market about a 10 minute walk away where you can buy some groceries. What we did was make breakfast every morning and eat outside. It was a perfect way to start the day with the best view you can imagine!!
I would definitely recommend renting a car if you're the exploring type. This way you can leave on your own schedule and go wherever you want. There's plenty of signs directing you how to get places. And if you get a little lost, so what?! the island is pretty small and always a friendly face to help you get back on track!
Be prepared to have a magical time here in santorini. I left a little piece of my heart there and will certainly be back!!
The room was comfortable and charming, just like the picture. The view could launch ships as Helen of Troy did long ago. The hospitality, mostly by way of email, was friendly, flexible, responsive, and helpful. We hugely appreciated the house and the help.
A few small tips: 1) Make a walking map of the route from the cave house to the upper road. Eventually it will be almost second nature, but not immediately…especially if your first or second walk is in the dark (or if you’re an idiot, as I apparently am). 2) Shop around a bit for your rental car. Between rental car (we were given manual transmission; get automatic for the hills), a helpful ride from the airport, and gas, we spent 140 euro for ground transportation over 3 days. I now know we could have done it for ~90-100. 3) If it’s winter, the hot tub is less likely to be a useful feature. And 4) Have a wonderful time! We certainly did.
John was a fantastic host and very responsive to my queries prior to our trip to Santorini. John arranged for a driver to and/from the airport as well as a porter to help us with our baggage upon arrival and departure. The home was exactly as pictured, very clean and the views are unbeatable!
The view is spectacular!! The place is just as it looks in the photos, and the location is really amazing. Be warned there are many stairs but this is par for the course in Oia. The man who let met us and lead us to the apartment upon arrival was lovely, and very helpful. The only negative was the hot tub was really more pool temperature. We visited in November, so this might not be an issue in the warmer months.
The location and view are spectacular. It's a great setting to enjoy all that Oia has to offer. Almost too perfect. Being directly below one of the most iconic sights on the island (blue domed church) means that your path to the main street is packed with picture takers at all hours. The cave house interior has everything you need to enjoy your stay and is very quiet. One warning is the number and steepness of the steps. Definitely not for the "out of shape" traveler.
We loved our stay at this perfect little cave house in Santorini! We were met at the post office in Oia upon arrival and walked to the cave house! The only small issues we had were the air conditional didn't get very cool and we didn't really have hot water in the shower, it barely got warm. Other than those to small things, we loved the place and would highly recommend staying here! Very clean room and amazing location!
