We invite you to come and stay with us in Nizas a tiny, charming and ancient village with a tiny population of 500 to match.
Our home is a beautifully restored, two-hundred-year-old “maison de village”, situated literally a stone’s throw away from a medieval church, a château, a wine bar, a corner store and of course, the lovely surrounding hills which are lined with the fruit of the local wine growers.
We offer you your own lovely and bright private room, a shared bathroom (toilets on each of the 3 levels), a fully equipped and brand new kitchen, a relaxing lounge room space with a large TV and a comfy couch, a big sunny terrace, a courtyard with a barbecue and of course, breakfast! There is free high-speed wireless internet throughout the house and fresh towels and linen are provided. There is plenty of space for you to relax and be at home, whether it be inside or out on the terrace.
If you would like to cook your own meals, feel free to use the barbecue and kitchen, help yourself to tea and coffee, spices and cooking oil. You will have your own food shelf and a little space in the fridge.
A minute’s walk from the house, you will find a public basketball court, an outdoor ping pong table and a boules court where you can join the locals for a game of pétanque. There is also a tennis court for hire. If you enjoy strolling, take a simple wander through and around the hills in any direction for however long and you will not be disappointed - stunning, vineyard landscapes at every turn.
For biking enthusiasts, there are over 130 km of mountain biking trails for all levels, which you can start from Nizas. This is a great way to experience the countryside and surrounding villages. We have 2 extra bikes free for you to use.* For ‘technical riders’, ask Pierre, who would be happy to take you out on a ride in the hills.
We recommend the markets, cafés, restaurants, bars, museums, galleries and shops in Pézenas, which is famous for its brocantes and lively art and music scene.
The vibrant city of Montpellier just is a 45-minute drive or just over an hour by bus from Nizas.
Our pick of local beaches, rivers, lakes, canals, barrages:
- Tamarissière Beach, Lac du Salagou (on the presque isle), Barrage des Olivettes and lake Thau, which are each within a 30 min radius of Nizas by car;
- Hérault river at Cazouls-d’Hérault for a dip (20 minute bike ride);
- Le Canal du midi (Le Somail) direction Carcassonne (1 hour drive).
Two buses pass through Nizas to Pézenas daily (except Sundays and public holidays).
Pick up from Pézenas, Béziers train station, or Montpellier airport or train station can be arranged.*
Other Things to Note
Please note that mobile coverage in the village is a little light. Phones from the operator “Free” will have reception in the house and “Sosh” or “Orange” mobiles will work from the village main plaza.
Our house is a typical french village house (built in 1818, renovated first in 1920 then extended in 1990 and finally completely renovated in 2013) which means that some of the door frames will be quite low and our top floor has a couple of low hanging wooden beams. If your are particularly tall (180-190cm+) please be aware that you will have to watch your head while walking on the top floor :)

Pickup (return) from Bezier Train station is 20€.
Pickup (return) from Pezenas is 10€.
In general we are pretty relaxed and accommodating people. We have three basic rules:
1. Please leave your shoes at the front door or on the terrace.
2. No smoking indoors, sorry! Feel free to smoke on the terrace or in the courtyard.
3. Clean up after yourself in the kitchen.
In short, be respectful and enjoy!!
Free use of oven, microwave, barbecue, coffee machine etc. Tea and coffee, cooking oil and spices are free and at your disposal. As it is a shared space, we ask that you clean as you go. It would also be great if you could let us know as early as possible if and roughly when you might want to be cooking so we can organise to cook before or after you etc. We will try to get out of your way if we can!
We tend to run the dishwasher after 11.30pm. Most cooking utensils can be put in the machine, but pots and chopping boards will have to be hand-washed. Plastic containers and lids go in the top rack of the dishwasher. We will try to leave you a little fridge space and you will have an entire cupboard shelf.
There is space in the bathroom cupboard for you to leave your toiletries if you wish and space for you to hang your towels too. For stays of longer than a week, we will change over your bed linen and provide you with fresh towels.
We are happy to let you run a load (or two for longer staying guests) of laundry with our detergent between 11.30pm and 7.30 am.
Bicycles are fitted with lights and provided with locks, so please secure them if you plan to leave them unattended. 70€ per bike will have to be forfeited in case of loss or irreparable damage.
During our stay, Pierre and Rachel have been great hosts. They made us feel at home from the start, gave us some nice tips for the area and Pierre even borrowed us two bikes and bike gear to explore the 130km of tracks round Nizas. The house has a great kitchen and all together breaths a "laid-back life" atmosphere that Pierre and Rachel brought back from Australia. If your looking for relaxation, comfort and a homey feel than this place is perfect for you
We spent a great time with Pierre and Rachel. We are in love with the house. We extremely recommend their place.
They are a happy and lovely couple. We felt like at home with them.
We had a great time with great hosts in Nizas! The tastefully decorated house is huge enough to find "your space". We found everything we needed to spend a relaxed holiday: comfortable bed, breakfast as wished, banana bread, blue sky & yellow mimosas and: an extremely friendly, open minded and interesting couple as hosts. Highly recommended: stay with Rachel & Pierre ... + feel free to enjoy the beautiful south and its gentle wilderness!
Me and my girlfriend had a very nice stay at Pierre and Rachel's place! Very friendly and nice to hang out drinking tea with! What can I say.... One of my best airbnb stays:)
