Apartment - Entire home/apt · Portal de l'Àngel, Barcelona, Catalonia 08002, Spain

Glorious flat in the very heartbeat of Barcelona in a modernistic building of the renowned pedestrian street Portal de l'Angel. Stunning design with a just a sip of Balinese touch and a completely equipped kitchen/bathroom.

The Space

I m p o r t a n t n o t e : last years cancellations occurred due to restructuring works in our building, which have been completed at the time. This to mention that there are no risks of cancellations this year. :)

You will be renting a brand-new, huge 3 bedroom flat with 2 private bathrooms in one of the most impressive modernistic buildings.
Strategically located in the very pulsing center of Barcelona, my flat is at one minute from Placa Catalunya (you can see it from the balcony), at few minutes walking distance from Passeig de Gracia, Born area, Museo Picasso and the beautiful Parc de la Ciutadella, close to the beach and metro and surrounded by pretty cafe terraces.

Perfect for couples, small groups or independent travelers, Portal de l'Angel is the ideal, strategic base from which to explore Barcelona, according to Fodor's.

We are experienced airbnb hosts and take guest satisfaction very seriously. Whatever you need; from fresh sheets to restaurant recommendations or local insights, we're on-hand to help however we can.

• A bright, contemporary lounge with a comfortable sofa and a large day-bed (perfect for a well earned siesta after an epic day of tourism) as well as a coffee table right next to it (can't get more "siesta-lazy" than this). Large set of double doors open out to balconies overlooking Portal de l'Angel and Placa Catalunya. Just throw them open and let the glorious sunshine in (the apartment is full of light from dawn until sunset)! There is a big crystal dining table which six seats (great for long dinners with good wine).

• High Speed Internet: secure WiFi signal 24/7

• Kitchen: A clean and bright, fully fitted kitchen with all utensils, crockery and spices - just in case you get the urge to experiment with fresh ingredients from the excellent Santa Catarina food market at just a few steps away.

• Kiddies: For guests traveling with children, we are happy to provide information on stuff to do with kids of different ages in Barcelona and recommend a good babysitter.

Note: For more detailed information please just click Amenities above.

All bedrooms are large, bright, clean double rooms fully heated in the winter, with double beds and comfy tempur mattresses. The master bedroom has it's own private en suite bathroom. There is also a second bathroom with a shower and bathtub, WC and large sink. There are always fresh white sheets on the beds and a big pile of clean white towels in the bathrooms.

Literally just around the corner is Placa del la Catedral, the amplest and liveliest square of the Gothic District, the scene for the display of the main events of Barcelona such as La Mercé and the weekly Antique Market as also meeting-point for most locals for a lazy afternoon. Spread around with sunny cafe terraces, street artists and historical sights, this spot in front of the beautiful 14th century Santa Eulalia Gothic church is where all the magic happens! The apartment is also just a few minutes walk from the beach, the Picasso Museum and the lovely Parc de la Ciutadella as well as most of the city's famous historical buildings and museums (see map). Some of Barcelona's nicest cafe's and tastiest restaurants are all close-by. There are also two metro stations just a few minutes walk away, the nearest of which is Placa Catalunya.

FROM THE AIRPORT: The easiest way to get to the apartment is simply to jump in a taxi outside the airport which will cost around 30€. The cheaper version is to jump on the blue AeroBus from the airport (7€ - leaves every 15 minutes) until the the final stop Plaça Cataluña. From here, we're at just 2 mins walk down Portal de l'Angel.

BY TRAIN: If you are arriving by train, the lovely Estación de Francia is around 5 mins of stroll from the apartment. This is also an excellent transport link to get to the beaches and some enjoyable day trips outside the city, for example, pretty Sitges, the Dali Museum in Figueras and the breathtaking monastery in Montserrat.

Check In

  • The apartment is ideally located and ample as stated by the owner. Regarding the building where the apartment is located, only the facade was renovated. The common areas have not been updated and are old and dirty with dirty walls with peeling paint and dirty and broken tile floors.
The flat does not look brand new, it feels dirty and worn out. The only appliance that seems brand new is the kitchen oven.
The amenities profiled were not accurate and grossly misstated. The pictures posted do not reflect the apartment.
There is no comfortable sofa as pictured in the listing. The “crystal” table is just a table with glass top with six wobbly and very precarious chairs.
The kitchen is neither bright nor clean. The surfaces were filthy, the water in the dish rack was moldy and there are some mats covering the counters which seem to have collected the dirt from many past guests. The kitchen has a dirty portable electric stove top with two burners, the outlet to plug the toaster or stove top oven has exposed wires, very serious electrical hazard.
The bedrooms are large and bright but not clean, we found some chewed gum under one of the beds. The mattresses are comfortable but they are not tempur as advertised. One of the beds has a leg that keeps falling off. The bed sheets and towels are not white. The master bedroom does not have a private en suite bathroom.
Talking of bathrooms, at the time of making the reservation, the listing stated that there were 2 bathrooms one of which was supposed to be en suite. When we got to the property we only found one and a half baths. If it had been correctly stated we would not have considered this apartment since two full bathrooms was a must have for our group.
The bath room picture that was posted in the website at the time we made the reservation did not depict the bathroom in the flat. The actual bathroom is old and dirty as is the half a bathroom.
Two of the bedrooms have windows to a courtyard with ugly views of opposing apartments and with constant blaring music during business hours from the business on the main floor which makes it hard to enjoy siesta time. We found 2 cockroaches in the apartment, as well as one in the stairwell and we saw how the employees of the business on the main floor were trying to get rid of more of them.
To sum up, the unit is in a good location and ample, it is dirty and the amenities were grossly misrepresented. The relation price/quality is not good. While touring the city, we came across modern and professionally managed units in good tourist areas for the same price.

    Response from Roberta:

Answering to the only calumnious portrayal that my flat has ever received after a total of 95 positive reviews for all my flats, is really one of the most challenging of endeavors. I have met Silvia and her traveling companions and as soon as encountered I already perceived that these two couples of retired from America are not going to be collaborative in terms of adjusting to their special needs. The building of my flat is just one of the several, similar ones of the Barcelona's Gothic Quarter. The particularly bohemian touch of this neighborhood should be taken in a more literal way before booking a flat in our old town meaning that, there's a quite strict law monitoring internal and external changes of the historic patrimony of Barcelona. After 4 years of living here I can afford having an opinion in regard. Most of the structures in the Gothic Quarter are quite alike and guests that have never experienced living here, but expect high tech flats and internally brand-new, building structures should definitely consider booking outside of the center of Barcelona.
As for the enumerated calumnious and partly false details, I will try answering just to a few ones, otherwise it might end up with having a redundant effect on the readers. Luckily enough, airbnb's photo-shoot has taken place during the very same day of this check-in and the website's is well aware of it. To enumerate a few of the discrepancies between reality and Silvia's description: the IS a sofa in the living-room, the kitchen is white and bright, the mattresses are tempur, there's nowhere stated that the master bedroom might have a private en suite bathroom (and the list may go on like this).
As for the hygienic conditions, I personally feel very sorry if my flat to Silvia has felt as "filthy". I do need to make it very clear to any reader that, this is a subjective opinion and insist to be considered such as. I have a contract with a professional cleaning agency which has total control and manages not only my flat but several ones around Barcelona. They would surely declare bankruptcy if the quality of their main service would be as described in Silvia's opinion.
Moreover, I have personally checked the flat before Silvia's arrival, since I bought and prepared breakfast on the living-room's table for them, as a welcoming gesture, since I understood that they should be challenged traveling in such an exhausting way in their age. They where coming with the first train in the morning, so I went to pick them up from the metro station in order to avoid them getting lost, since there was a clear sign already from Silvia's mails of discomfort.
After the first complaining, the toilet seats have been extra changed for them, new glass and cup sets have been bought plus several other accessories for a total cost of 200€ just to please their continuous, often pretentious and rudely expressed requests. An extra cleaning of the whole flat has been extra payed and done. Buttomline, after just 24 hours of contact with these guests, I respectfully asked them to leave and offered a full reimbursement since their attitude went way out of line of any common sense and respectful, civilized behavior. Silvia and her travel companions have not accepted leaving my flat, nor my attempt of mitigating with a reimbursement their departure.
I am utterly sorry for this whole negative experience. I should have immediately called airbnb in order to have them handle their users, but the situation has been so overwhelming that after providing them with all due needed, I just needed to stay out of contact. I really have tried my best and have done everything in my power first solve and than to conclude this unfortunate encounter in a positive way against all odds, but I have failed.

  • The location couldn't be more central than this. It's situated in the middle of the well known shopping street and it is really convenient to go anywhere! Roberta was also a great host and was easily contacted. She also gave us recommendations to all the cool places in Barcelona. Great place to stay!

    Response from Roberta:

Friday night, 11:15 pm and you're out for an intimate dinner to start the weekend with. Your phone rings and there's Gautier advising you out of the blue, that he arrived and is expecting you to drop everything and meet him at the flat. Same Gautier that you agreed during booking to meetup with at 8 pm, same that the very day before arrival notified to be arriving at 9pm and than switched to 10pm (without the slightest "is this fine with you?! Does this meet your plans?" what so ever...). So... despite of the bad manners and disrespect, I take in count that it's just a bunch of teenager kids that have never traveled on their own and have no idea how to behave without their parents counselling, so I am dropping my dinner and company with apologizing, taking the car, driving down to the other side of town, meeting them up, explaining briefly the situation and- surprise, surprise: they Still don't grasp the meaning! So, I pretended to get over the issue just to save the situation and switch conversation, recommend them a safe parking and best restaurant to have dinner, provide them with all needed in the flat and go... home (too late to save the dinner anyway).
Sorry to put this out here, suppose I would have just tried to forget the whole deal, if it wouldn't be for this renewed proof of this french young man's complete unawareness in terms of common sense and good manners: instead of official apologies, I'm even reading an unsatisfactory note for having him welcomed (instead of rejecting) in an environment that has been perfectly cleaned the very afternoon, before his arrival. Typical reaction of a kid that has been reprimanded by an adult. :D I just want hosts to be aware of the unexpectedly pretentious ways this guest may have and the potential issues of dealing with... pretentious "kids".

  • Just came back after a great experience of BCN life... Everything went well and smooth.
The appartment is perfectly located near the Cathedral in Barrio Gothic... It's in the middle of all the nice neighborhoods and all on walking distance.
Nice and clean bathroom and beds were fine.
Roberta gave us some great tips to have dinner and where to go out ;)
Thanks for the experience and fun and we will see you next year for sure.

    Adióssss a todos.

  • More than excellent location. You will not need even to take any mean of transportation. Every place is within a walking distance from the apartment. Roberta made us to make early check in for free. Great stay. Roberta was very helpful. She acts as a tour guide to make you enjoy Barcelona to the max. Roberts relied any inquiry on spot maximum by 2 hours. She serves breakfast.

  • Roberta's apartment was large, beautiful, chic and located in a great area in Barcelona..a main area where there are a lot of things to do and located 5 minutes away from the food market! It was amazing for 3 guests as we each had our own room but we hardly spent any time in the apartment. Had a great experience with Roberta as she kept in touch with us through out the trip to make sure we had things to do, knew where to go, etc. She was very sweet and helpful! I would definitely come back here to when I visit Barcelona again!I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay in Barcelona.

  • Hello, everybody!
Location: excellent! Just steps from Catalunya, Rambla, Santa Caterina Market, Catedral. The apartment is very easy reachable by AeroBus from the airport - a minute walk from their stop at Catalunya. Metro station, Bokeria market - an easy walk, so in short - very-very central.
Surroundings: pedestrian street, shops (1 small food supermarket and shoes and clothes: lots of), restaurants and cafes - uncountable in the area (Gothic and Born - steps, Raval and Gracia - a short walk, a decent tapas bar and Pans fastfood just downstairs, buildings are historic, no traffic, icecream - tasty).
At the entrance - a bank where you can print the tickets for Sagrada Familia bought online to avoid queues.
As for online - wifi signal lets watch stream video.
The beaches can be reached both by walk or metro, or taxi (from nearby Via Laetana to Nova Icaria - just 6 euros).
The apartment: 3! separate!! bedrooms!!! Very simple: each accomodates a double bed and wardrobe, but cosy. A separate WC and a separate bathroom with a shower and wc - no queues:) A separate kitchen with a washing machine and a (again separate!!!) living room with a small balcony overlooking nice surroundings. In the corridor thers's a dryer for the clothes. A hairdryer and an ironing board with an iron are provided.
To take into account: the apartment is located on the 3rd floor of an old building with marble but quite steep stairway but WITHOUT an elevator - mind this if this may be of importance for you. And no TV set - as for us - it was very good to have a break from TV watching.
Roberta is very friendly, welcoming and ask her to recommend you a place to have a drink, to eat or to go out - you'll be surely pleased following her recommendation. Check-in and check-out sharp and punctual, without wating. So, try to book her apartment and lucky you'll be to get it!

Marketing Executive
My name is Roberta, I am born in Italy and raised, well, in several countries around the world due to my parents nomadic life-style. I moved to Barcelona at the end of March 2011. Not just for any reason, but for the love of my life. I know, I know, it sounds cliche, but hey, that’s how it happened. In my “previous” life I worked as a Social Media Manager for a multinational based in the Caribbeans and currently I am giving sense to my position as a Marketing Executive in Spain. So actually, I have my Mediterranean life sorted out pretty well, but still, I missed what I love doing most: being in constant contact with internationally experienced people. And therefore, with help from my dearest boyfriend, I started opening our flats to the world and welcoming guests, trying to share with them this perpetual wonderland of ours, Barcelona. It’s basically a never ending project, since I will continue introducing as a host all my guests to my world and guide them into this mysterious and playful reality that is my city. So yes, here it is.Through recent updates you will discover everything you can find, everything there is and you need to know. Only the highly necessary facts mixed together with personal experiences, tips and tricks. So let me take you to my BCN…. and beyond! Nos vemos muy pronto! Roberta.
