Description

The Space

Take it all in - you will enjoy the proximity to Pittsburgh's cafes, dining, museums, culture, public transportation & nightlife from the privacy of a quiet, spacious loft. Enjoy a well-equipped kitchen, jacuzzi, and friendly, knowledgeable hosts!

Unique loft space in the heart of trendy Bloomfield/Lawrenceville with access to a large kitchen, jacuzzi tub, and easy travel to many Pittsburgh destinations. Walk to loads of restaurants and cafes, art galleries, Western Penn & Children's Hospital. On the bus line to Pitt, CMU, UPMC, or downtown. The city is installing mobile rental bicycles, bike lanes, and bike friendly areas across many neighborhoods, if you're a cyclist and the weather is right.

We are a nurse and a graduate student with a passion for food, travel, music, and meeting new people. We look forward to hosting you in the "Most Livable City."

Your room is an updated, air conditioned loft, split between the second and third floors of a unique Bloomfield-Lawrenceville home. Up to two guests will enjoy a comfortable queen bed, Keurig coffee maker, end table, breakfast nook, mini refrigerator, two desks, a private couch, as well as a growing library in the loft. You will also have access to the bathroom, kitchen, living room, laundry, and a spacious porch. If more than two guests plan on staying with us, we have a memory foam queen sized fold-out couch on the first floor.

We are located in Bloomfield-Lawrenceville, which is simultaneously very close to the bustle of the Strip District, Penn Avenue, and Downtown, while still maintaining its reputation as a welcoming neighborhood with quiet one way streets. A quick drive, cab ride, or a walk to the bus stop will take you to University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon, UPMC or the airport. We are an easy walk to Butler Street, around which much of Lawrenceville's art, food, nightlife and music scenes revolve. Likewise, Liberty Avenue is a few blocks, and is home to Bloomfield's vibrant "Little Italy," along with several coffee shops and bookstores. Walk, bike or jog the peaceful, rolling hills of Allegheny Cemetery, encompassing 300 acres of beautifully kept public green space and filled with statuary and ironwork by local artists, and located a few blocks away.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, we look forward to meeting you!

Guest Access

You will have access to the bathroom, kitchen, living room, laundry, and a spacious porch. You are welcome to use our charcoal grill as well, if you have planned your visit in grilling season. We have strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry plants all around the house, and you're welcome to grab a handful if you're here in season!

Parking: We have a single off-street parking spot available in the heart of Bloomfield-Lawrenceville at a cost of $50/month. In addition, we are happy to lend our guests our on-street visitor parking permit.

Interaction with Guests

We love to share conversation and drinks - be it tea, coffee, Sam's home-brewed hard cider, or wine - with our guests, but we are also very busy with school and work. You may see a lot of us, or very little, depending on when you visit.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is an eclectic, buzzing place during spring summer and fall, and is a bit quieter in the winter. All types of people live here, all socioeconomic brackets, races, ages, genders, sexual orientation, religion, etc. It's a very exciting place with a lot of change happening before our eyes. We have lived here for two years, and have seen more art galleries, restaurants, and hotspots open than we can count.

We get a lot of questions about how "safe" the neighborhood is. You would get a different answer asking 5 different people. However, my best answer to most is that I am a 5'1" female solo night-time runner, and I've never felt unsafe. My assessment is not everyone's assessment, though. For those who are less familiar with urban Pittsburgh living, some people feel safer walking with a friend at night or taking a cab. We are happy to recommend areas to visit during your stay, if you like!

Getting Around

There are about 5 bus stops within 5 blocks of our home, depending on which direction you are headed. A new urban city-sponsored bicycle rental depot is located just off of Liberty Avenue, about 5 blocks away from our house, if you'd like to pick up a bike. It is easy to hail a cab, Lyft or Uber as well. We can recommend specific transportation options if you are coming from the airport or have specific questions.

House Rules

We can accommodate many special requests and requirements. That said, we do have a few house rules. We ask that you give us 48 hours advance notice if you will be canceling your reservation. We are a non-smoking household, and we would like to keep it that way. Nicole is sensitive to smoking, so if you must smoke, we ask that you leave the premises. We do charge a cleaning fee if the room subjectively smells of smoke after you leave. As one of us is a nurse working some night shifts, please try to keep noise to a dull roar during the daytime. Finally, we do have a fee of $50 should the key be lost, as we have to replace the key as well as the locks.

Thank you for understanding. We look forward to hosting you.
