The Space

Split Farthing Hall is beautiful 18th century Georgian home, nestled in the rural tranquility of beautiful North Yorkshire with panoramic views towards the Yorkshire Dales. It is well located to visit all the local tourist attractions of the area.

The Hall has been lovingly and sympathetically restored to its former glory by blending modern luxury with traditional elegance. Original features such as the two oak inglenooks and the open fireplaces have been restored and it has been completed with period finishings and colours.

There are 6 bedrooms split over the 2 upper floors and all have en-suite facilities:
• Master bedroom: King size bed (American/Australian Queen size) with en-suite facilities (2 wash basins, bath, separate shower, WC), large bay window, fireplace and 2 tub chairs
• Bed 2: King size bed (American/Australian Queen size) with en-suite facilities (2 wash basins, bath, separate shower, WC)
• Bed 3: Twin (or super-king) bed with en-suite facilities (wash basin, shower, WC)
• Bed 4: Double bed with en-suite facilities (wash basin, shower, WC)
• Bed 5: Twin (or super-king) bed with en-suite facilities (wash basin, shower, WC)
• Bed 6: Twin beds with en-suite facilities (wash basin, shower, WC)

The spacious kitchen is well-equipped with large range cooker and a 6 seat breakfast table next to the inglenook. Plus there’s a separate formal 12 seat oak dining table in the Orangery.

The Drawing Room is a large comfortable, elegant room with a warming fireplace and a lovely bay window looking out over towards the Dales.

There is also the peaceful library and the cosy snug in which to curl up and relax.

With 2 downstairs WCs and a utility room with a large washer and dryer, there are plenty of facilities.

Set within secluded grounds where children can play safely, there is an expansive lawn perfect for games of croquet, the old orchard for relaxing under the trees, a large terrace with hot tub and an amazing fire pit for magical evenings. We have ample secure parking for several cars.

We have everything you need for a luxurious and comfortable stay with high speed wifi, good mobile phone reception, luxurious bed linens, fluffy towels, bathrobes, toiletries, hairdryers plus tea and coffee facilities on every floor.

The local area is wonderful for walking, cycling, painting, horse riding, bird watching, relaxing etc in the North York Moors or Yorkshire Dales. There are many stately homes such as Castle Howard, Newby Hall and Newburgh Priory nearby and the historic ruins like Rievaulx & Byland Abbeys and Helmsley Castle are a short drive away.

For food lovers, as well as good local pub food, we also have some more upmarket places to eat such as the Star and the Pheasant both in Harome, the Black Swan in Olstead, the Black Swan in Helmsley and the Hare at Scawton to name a few.

The Hall is set within its own 21 acres yet is only 5km from the centre of the market town of Thirsk, which of course is famous for being the home of James Herriot of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. There are lots of picturesque towns and quaint villages close by and we’re within easy reach of York, Harrogate, Ripon and Leeds by car or train.

We’re can also arrange for massage and beauty therapists to visit you at Split Farthing Hall during your stay.

The owner is close by to answer any questions or help arrange any outings or activities.

We look forward to seeing you soon…

  • We rented Andrea's house for six nights for our family Christmas 2013 and we were extremely pleased with it. All six bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and have the feel of rooms in a boutique hotel. So far as I could tell, there were no issues with water pressure or temperature: everything ran very smoothly. Even in the depths of winter, the house was warm throughout (and the heating was easily controlled via panels on the walls). If anything, the photos on airbnb do not do justice to the rooms, especially those downstairs, which are finished to a high standard. It was a very homely and comfortable place to spend Christmas. There is a long dining table in the Orangery which would comfortably sit 12, maybe more (there were 8 of us plus toddler). Equally, we could all sit in the living room to open presents, play games etc. The only thing that a large group would not be able to do all together is watch tv - the tv room is more suitable for maybe 4-5 people than a larger group. That didn't affect us. I have not seen a better equipped kitchen in an airbnb rental. The grounds were very beautiful in the frost, but obviously we did not make use of the terrace at the back as we might have done in Summer, when it would have been a brilliant place for a barbecue. We would go back though, so maybe we'll get the chance another time. Andrea was very helpful during the booking process, prior to arrival and while we were there.

Split Farthing Hall
Started out as a subsea engineer in the oil buiness and lived all over the world, ending up in Texas for 10 years. Then had enough of oil companies and moved into website design and e-commerce consulting. Moved back to the UK and got involved in private equity projects. Then spent a couple of years back in Australia looking after family interests, investing in property and researching into health issues... Now back in the UK again still researching into health, diet and well-being and working hard to set up a retreat in North Yorkshire to help educate people regarding health and well-being...
