The host: John was perfect. Weeks before our arrival he had introduced himself via airbnb messaging and provided us with recommendations for car rental and activities. He was always extremely quick to respond. Throughout our stay, we had several questions which were again answered without delay.
The place: The view from the windows/front door/balcony is breathtaking. The cave room was quite spacious with a large bathroom, bedroom and living room. The room even had an indoor jacuzzi.
The location: The pictures (although incredible) do not give it the proper justice. Oia is probably the best place to stay on the island. The views are second to none, the Main Street is immaculately clean and luxurious, and the choices for excellent restaurants and other shops are plentiful. Parking is free and readily available. There is a certain vibe that is very welcoming, especially for couples.
Other suggestions: I would rent a car (or ATV) if you are staying for several days, as you will probably want to explore Fira and perhaps some beaches and other sections. The stairs to suites/hotels/apartments in Oia on the caldera side are abundant, so if you are carrying heavy luggage, hiring a porter may save you some hassle.
We had an excellent time and hope that our future allows us to return!
John was a fantastic host - he arranged almost everything during our stay, from transportation from the ferry when we arrive to transportation to the airport when we left. He also suggested and helped arranged an amazing catamaran cruise around the island (including swimming, snorkeling, and lunch - would highly recommend!) and drove us around to several wineries as there weren't many car rentals available. The Airbnb listing itself was as pictured, with a great view from the balcony. A bit of warning: the listing is on the caldera side so there is a relatively lengthy / taxing walk to go up/down the stairs to reach the apartment, but the view is worth it! Overall, had an amazing and comfortable stay in Oia, largely due to John's hospitality!
John is a wonderful host. He arranged our pick up FROM the airport and even drove us TO the airport on our departure day (at 4 AM!).
John was always available to answer our questions throughout our stay.
The view of the home is spectacular. It was great to be able to stay away from the main touristic area - you get more privacy. However, if you walk up the 100 steps (10 mins walk), you will find the main street with stores and restaurants galore.
We were 3 people. With a sofa bed, this space worked for us. However, there is no door separating the main bed from the living space, so I would recommend that this is best suited for couples. The only other issue was that the internet was very slow. John did fix this for us.
If you have any issues, I would recommend getting in contact with John and he will respond ASAP.
All in all, a wonderful stay!
John was an excellent host - very friendly and attentive both before and during our trip. A few days prior to our trip, he sent us a lot of things to do/book before hand. We regret not planning better because we did eventually want to do a sunset cruise. We decided this last minute and we're not able to get a reservation on the 2nd and last night we were there because it was all booked! I recommend you do this with John beforehand so you don't miss out.
About the place: it is a shared balcony but you have separate areas. We also has the section that did not have an external hot tub but we had a third and separate section for us where we can lay out on beach chairs. You have to walk through your neighbors section in order to get to this other area, may have been awkward but honestly, we spent very little time at the room and did not care to lay out in the balcony (our trip in santorini was only 2 nights). We also had a hot tub in the room and we're not charged like the other reviewers. John also did not charge us for the transfers.
The room is also on the Caldera side so it is a taxing walk to go up and down the stairs but It is a small price to pay for the view! You will also have a similar walk if you stayed at other caldera cave houses so this walk is not bad at all. Just as a side note, I thought we would have a sunset view from out balcony - but we don't. It is hard to have both a caldera and sunset view, which John explained to me. However, this is not a huge problem at all. The cave is very conveniently located from spots where you will have a perfect view - steps from sunset point.
The accommodations were also clean and had a kitchen, etc.
Side tip: pay attention to the meeting point for when you need a transfer back to the airport. He had us meet him at the post office but we got lost and could not find it when we had to be picked up. Sorry John!
Overall - great stay !! We loved the place and santorini is amazing
John made us feel welcome and gave us ideas and tips. The place was as I imagined it, even bigger. One thing to know is that the terrace is split into three sections (for three different houses). So you don't have the entire terrace for yourself. Still very beautiful views though!
Amazing location! I have to say John was the best host ever. He picked us up at the airport dropped us off when we left. He gave us great recommendations where to go,what to do, and where to eat. He helped take our luggage up the steps when we left. The apartment was clean and comfortable but this is all about the view. The pics are very accurate and the balcony and hot tub were awesome. I would suggest a sunset tour on the catamaran around the island, it was the highlight of our trip. Great place stay.
