Come experience a comfortable night under the stars in our fun and relaxing treehouse!
Our newly-built Treehouse is already proving to be a hit. There is a triple bunk-bed, a single bed, and floor space if needed.
The Zen Hostel is a small, friendly, family-style location. We offer a meditation room, library, and a peaceful courtyard with a zen pond surrounded by native and fruiting plants. You are invited to make yourself at home here!
In addition to your sleeping area, you will have access to three shared kitchens, a meditation room, outdoor areas, and a washer and dryer on premises. Wifi is provided. Check in and out at your convenience.
Interaction with Guests
It is up to the guest (you!) to decide how much communal interaction you desire during your stay. Some guests join in our group meditations, daily meetings and shared meals. Others come here for a chance to relax in privacy, and enjoy the time to themselves.
We love our neighborhood! We are located in the very heart of Gainesville, Florida's friendliest city. We are located just around the corner from an organic food co-op, an independent theatre, and a variety of bookstores, restaurants, cafes, parks, and unique local businesses.
We are conveniently located near Gainesville's public transit center. If you need a ride from the airport, we offer pick-up services with a kind donation of half the price of a taxi.
It was a pleasure to stay in the zen hostel on our trip to Gainesville. Our host was friendly and when it turned out to be too cold to stay in the tree house she found a warm room for us to use instead. Walking distance to restaurants.
Our stay at the treehouse was very pleasant. The community associated with the hostel was welcoming and the place has a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. It is conveniently located near the center of Gainesville and you can even explore the city on foot. The treehouse is a great place to sleep and wake up to the sound of the birds, although one night there was a lot of shouting in the neighborhood. Bathroom and kitchen (at least the ones on 2nd floor) are very basic and were not exactly clean during our stay but nevertheless we can recommend the Zen Hostel because of its uniqueness!
Cindy and Tobe were as friendly and accommodating as a host could be. The neighborhood was not bad and in a great location. I was not aware there was a zero alcohol policy when I book but that was not an issue, just thought it should be posted before booking. There was also a guy screaming and making noises early in the night both nights, only lasted a little bit.
I was looking for a nice place to stay close to downtown and it's probably the coolest place I could find :-) Perfect location, super welcoming people, wonderful positive atmosphere and a beautiful peaceful tree house! Tobe also came to pick me up from the station in a short notice which was very helpful. I definitely enjoyed my stay and hope to be back soon :-)
The greeter and other guests did make me feel welcome and the location is very good, however I did not understand that this was a hostel. I like hostels, but I was disappointed in the over all cleanness and condition of this one. I did not stay in the treehouse, it was a screened in co-ed deck and it was very cold that night, so I was offered a bed in a women's dorm room.
Due to an emergency, I didn't actually get to stay at the treehouse. Tobe was very gracious about our cancellation, and I hope to see this place in the future.
It's a great place with great people, if you are joining their community life it's a lot of fun. Tobe is a great guy with lots of memories and good suggestions where you should go next. If it's under 50° it can get a little bit cold in the tree house. I hope I can come back again. Thank you :)
