About This Listing
Our comfortable light-filled flat is at the highest part of St Leonards. Stylish, clean and comfortable, it has 2 double bedrooms. The sunny living area has views to the sea across treetops. This is a quiet escape with lovely walks to local shops, cafes and the seafront. Free parking.
This is a whole flat where up to 4 people can stay comfortably and extra sleeping space can be provided on futons if required.
It is in a really beautiful street at the highest point of St Leonard's, a planned Regency town by Decimus Burton (who designed much of Kew gardens and the beautiful glass palm house there).
The flat is a fully equipped comfortable space, full of light and sunshine in the summer and cosy in the winter. We look over a shared Edwardian garden used by local residents. Beyond this and across the rooftops is the sea.
The flat is on the second floor, and its height provides great views with large sash windows opening up the space to the outside.
A double bedroom faces west at the back of the flat with great views of the sunset, and a front bedroom can be used either as a single or the bed splits into two proper beds for a twin room.
The building is quiet with considerate neighbours, and the area very peaceful.
With free parking immediately outside the flat it is easy for drivers, those arriving by train, have a fifteen minute walk from St Leonards Warrior Sq or a small taxi ride.
You will have great privacy with sole use of the whole flat reached by a shared staircase. The flat is 2 floors up from the raised front door. The living room and kitchen are one space.
The kitchen is well equipped, with gas hob and electric oven, a washing machine and full equipment for cooking, with a juicer and smoothie maker for healthy breakfasts. The bathroom has a comfortable bath and lovely power shower. I provide plenty of towels and shampoo etc for guests.
Interaction with Guests
I am happy to hand over keys and leave you to your privacy or tell you more about the area if you wish. Once you book and we know your arrangements I will plan to be there at an agreed time to let you in, or will arrange for a friend to greet you. You are welcome to use the basic foods that are always in the kitchen; coffee, tea, pasta and olive oil, and other basics.
Hastings is full of things to see and do. The Old Town is well known for the working beach, fishing boats and fish shops, There is plenty of local music to see and festivals throughout the year from the Green Man on Mayday to the magnificent fireworks and bonfire weekend in the (website hidden) Leonards itself has some beautiful historic parks and streets, and is becoming a very interesting destination in its own right for vintage shopping and places to eat, drink and be entertained. The seafront is a fifteen minute walk away through the lovely Maze Hill park and you can reach Hastings Old Town in about half an hour from the flat, walking along the seafront. There is plenty to do there from renowned pub music to visiting the Jerwood gallery or the museums and fishing beach. When you arrive it is best to bring food, as the nearest shops are a bit of a walk.
St Leonards Warrior sq is the stop just before Hastings coming from London, and is about 10 minutes walk uphill to the flat (or a cheap taxi ride from the station). Trains from London are every half hour or so and it is easy to get to Brighton or Eastbourne and Bexhill. the latter is a great walk along the beach.
Other Things to Note
It works best for me if the booking can be for two nights minimum.
We provide wifi, digital radio, and iPod dock and charger (with adaptor to iPhone 5 use)
The main thing is to be considerate of other residents in the building. The front door should always be closed behind you (quietly) and please use the shared stair quietly too. It is a very peaceful and easy house of residents and important to keep that way. No parties or numerous extra guests. Absolutely no smoking. Absolutely no pets.
The immersion heater can be used at night and turned off during the day, and must be turned off when you leave.
Please tidy up, leave the flat as you found it, and take the rubbish out when you go! So stay safe, peaceful, clean and happy in this flat... Nothing to it!
Hastings is a delightful town, and Elizabeth's flat in St Leonard was the perfect home base for us. It's very spacious with several rooms (which we didn't even need to take advantage of!), and the taxi service was very reliable to get us to places that weren't within walking distance. Having said that, Elizabeth left VERY detailed information about local establishments, which was very helpful. You must try breakfast/lunch at the Little Larder. That recommendation was spot on. Thank you, Elizabeth, for such a pleasant stay!
Het appartement was erg schoon en netjes. Van alle gemakken voorzien (kinderspeelgoed, keukengerei). Lokatie erg goed, vlakbij park, strand, centrum en supermarkt.
The reservation was canceled 62 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Elizabeth was very welcoming and left good information about the local area. In fact, we had the best fish n chips ever! Loved the flat as well. Highly recommend.
Elizabeth's flat is light, attractive and peaceful as promised by the description and photos. She was quick to respond to our request to book and was then friendly and easy to communicate with. Elizabeth welcomed us warmly and provided lots of information and tips for our stay. The flat is in a beautiful terrace at the top of the hill with views over parks and roofs down to the sea. It's a bit of a climb back up after a day's wandering but we mainly used the flat as a base for exploring the area by car, (St Leonards, Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Rye), so it was in a perfect position, and convenient with easy parking. The flat is well equipped. We slept well and enjoyed cooking when we didn't eat out. Thoroughly recommended.
My German relations were very happy with the accommodation - thank you!
Liz was really lovely as a host. She fitted in with our arrival time and had left bread and milk for us. Plus she gave us directions into town and tips for places to eat. The flat is lovely, very cosy and stylish.
We walked to Hastings Old Town, which probably took under half an hour, but coming home at night in a cab was only a fiver so it's a pretty good location. And very close to the beach if you don't feel like being a townie.
About the Host, Elizabeth
I am an architect and run a practice with my partner in North London. I grew up in Hastings and have strong links with the town. I stay there often to see friends and family and gain some peace and quiet. I enjoy the light the space and the eccentricity of the town. It is even possible to commute from there, and I do this sometimes during the summer although it can be hard to leave on a beautiful morning.
We discovered airbnb on a family trip to California. It was lovely to meet local people by way of their homes in San Francisco and Los Angeles. I have enjoyed being a host.
