About this listing

Just mention this offer when you go book it and we will send you a special offer (or refund you if you Instant Book). Subject to availability due to those pesky laws of physics.
Located only 2.5 miles from the entrance of the Hawaii Volcanos National Park, in the village of Volcano (not in Mountain View, and not in the community across the road from Volcano - this is the real thing). One mile each way from the Cooper Center and Volcano Art Center.
Escape to a secluded rainforest paradise, where the only noises are raindrops on the many skylights and birds in the morning. Located in the cozy little village of Volcano, you are only about a mile away from the entrance to the Hawaii Volcanos National Park, making this the your perfect home base to explore the park and spend evenings by the fire. We are only 45 minutes from Hilo and the Hamakua coast, and about an hour away from South Point and the wonders of its wild beaches (including the famous Green Sands Beach).
You will have a private room with a queen size bed in a fully equipped home with kitchen, wireless broadband, free laundry facilities, a warm fire stove, a beautiful and sunny covered lanai (outside porch), verdant gardens, board games and a shower room to die for. The only place in the house without a view to beautiful greenery is probably underneath your bed. After a visit to Madam Pele, you will come home to a cozy spot where the stars are so bright it looks like you could touch them. The pictures do not come close to doing this beautiful place justice
Come enjoy the cool mountain climate of Volcano, visit its arts center, drive down Chain of Craters Road, wander outside amongst the giant tree ferns or just retreat for a couple of quiet days to relax and recharge your batteries.
Guests have access to all house facilities and all linens and towels are provided. There is ample off street parking (uncovered) and we also have a laundry room with washer, dryer and detergent (though you are welcome to bring your own too). Bedrooms have individual keys for privacy, all else is shared, but the house consistently attracts pleasant, considerate people who are great to meet and are conscientious about the shared spaces.
Fully stocked kitchen- toaster, blender, slow cooker, salad spinner, all cooking utensils, etc.
Books, movies, & games in common areas for down time.
Extra towels, sheets and blankets in laundry room.
Interaction with Guests
Melissa, the caretaker, is not always present at the property but is just a phone call, text or email away. When she does reside at the house, she tries to provide a friendly balance of hospitality and privacy.
Volcano is a quiet, green community that is the home of artists, professors, and retirees. What really defines it and sets it apart is the fact that the majority of residents try to preserve the forest around their houses and keep it pristine. It is secluded, but once you get on the highway you are right at the Volcanoes national park – be boundary to the park is Volcano itself. We are high up on the mountain (4,000 ft. / 1,000 m), so the climate is cool, with chilly nights made for fireplace times and we get almost daily rain showers together with clear blue skies. We do recommend shopping for groceries in Kona or Hilo if you are staying for longer periods, as you will have greater selection and better prices.
Public transportation is not really adequate and stops far from the house. We recommend a rental car. The last stretch of road is not paved, but it is passable even for a compact car.
Please no smoking or parties. We love a good, lively home, but try to keep our voices down after 10 pm.
About the Host, Alex
I am Brazilian, originally from Recife, and have lived all over the world in the past few years. I used to live in Atlanta, then London, Rio and now in Hong Kong. I am an AirBnB host in Hawaii, where my houses are managed by my good friend Melissa, the hospitality queen. I have stayed in several AirBnB listings in my trips around the world, and traditional hotels are virtually dead for me.
