This is your opportunity to sleep in a beautiful picture postcard thatched cottage. The cottage is 250 years old and your bedroom is in the original cottage under the thatch. There is a large extension out the back which contains a sitting room with a real fire place which burns turf (peat) and a beautiful bathroom with a bath and shower. This bathroom would be for your sole use.
The bedroom is a good size double room with a very comfortable bed.. You would also have the use of a fully equipped kitchen,a dining room with a 200 year old dresser (hutch) and a sitting room, I provide a continental style breakfast with home made breads and scones, fruit, yoghurt and tea and freshly brewed coffee.
Moycullen is a pleasant village, a 20 minute drive from Galway city situated on the shores of lough Corrib. Moycullen is considered to be the gateway to Connemara as it is on the main road to Clifden, the main town in Connemara. It is an ideal base to explore Connemara National Park and the Aran islands and of course Galway city, the cultural capital of Ireland with its vibrant arts scene and colourful narrow streets. There are bus connections to Clifden and Galway city.
.Moycullen itself is a charming small village with a large supermarket and a range of bars and restaurants,There is a wonderful Friday food market. It is rural living at its best while being a short drive from the vibrancy of Galway city.
This is a truly unique opportunity to experience country cottage living and the best of irish hospitality.
You will be guests in my house and will have free access to the kitchen and living room. I would like guests to feel at home and to know that they are welcome to share my space.
Interaction with Guests
As much as they want. I tend to follow the guests lead on this. I am happy to chat and offer advice but equally am happy to give guests space and leave them to their own devices.
Moycullen is a lovely community where people are friendly. It has great amenities- restaurants, pubs, a good supermarket and even a health food shop. It is about 15 min drive to the coast (Spiddal) and a 20 min drive to Galway city. It is situated on the main road to Clifden so you would have a head start in the morning as you head out to tour Connemara.
It is not really feasible to travel by public transport- you would really need a car. If you are depending on public transport, make contact and we'll see what we can work out.
Other Things to Note
This is a very special chance to stay in a very special house. Contrary to the photos you see, thatched cottages are rare in Ireland.
I would expect guests to be respectful of the fact that I am welcoming them into my home and to treat the house with reasonable care, I have travelled a lot and I know that my best experiences have been with people who have provided hospitality for me in their homes, I feel this is my chance to provide that experience for you.Smoking is not allowed
Aingeal was the perfect host. The cottage is amazing, wide space, tidy and nicely decorated. The breakfast was spectacular, we had the best scones ever, and lovely conversation in the morning. She gave us directions and helped us get information about what we had planned to visit, and even made us lunch for the days out!
We loved staying with Aingeal, we definitely recommend her as a host, and we surely want to come back someday!
We stayed for one night and couldn't have been happier. The cottage is beautiful- great room and spacious bathroom- and Aingeal made us feel incredibly welcome, with a cup of tea and a slice of cake upon arrival. A particular thanks for even sending us off with a packed lunch- it was very much appreciated! I would definitely recommend staying here for at least 3 days as the perfect base to explore the magnificent scenery of Connemara.
Thank you for having us and we wish you all the best going back to school.

We could not have asked for a better experience. The cottage itself is gorgeous and charming. The bedroom and bathroom were private, beautiful and very comfortable. Aingeal was so accommodating and gracious. We got to experience true Irish hospitality. Her homemade scones in the morning were out of this worlds and were the perfect start to our day. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Staying with Aingeal was a highlight of or trip!!
Aingeal was a perfect host. Her home is beautiful. So warm and inviting. The bedroom was big and the bathroom was lovely with a bathtub and a shower. I was so delighted Aingeal joined us for morning tea. She made a delicious breakfast, homemade oatmeal, scones, brown break and fruit compote. She is well traveled and has so much to share. She helped us find a plan for the next day. We were so sad we couldn't stay longer. My daughter and I were traveling around Ireland and then heading to London. This was our first time in Europe and Aingeal helped make it wonderful. We will be back for a longer stay. We HIGHLY recommend this airbnb. We feel like we made a lifetime friend.
Aingeal made us feel very welcome into her beautiful home. She went to great efforts to make our stay special. The place is exactly how it looks in the pictures. The area is lovely and quiet and convenient for Galway City and Connemara. Breakfast was delicious and we even got some lovely homemade scones which kept us going for the rest of the trip. Thanks Aingeal for a great stay!
We had such a lovely stay with Angeal. She is a wonderful host, full of useful tips on what to see and do in the area, the house is warm and cosy and the breakfast Angeal provided was divine! Thank you for having us, we definitely recommend staying with Angeal if you are visiting Galway
The listing was exactly as it was. Aingeal is so hospitable and sweet. When we arrived she made us smoked salmon on bread and cookies with tea. It was lovely. She also had the fire on for us. She talked to us even though I'm sure she was tired from her previous guest and the holiday. Her breakfast was out of this world and my husband particularly loved the home made scones. Even her suggestion of where to eat/drink was spot on.
When it came time to go, she outlined where we could drive and where to stop on the way to Limerick. Her directions were so helpful and accurate. Leaving her cottage was like leaving home and she already feels like family. One would be silly not to pick her house to stay when booking an Airb&b.
I have lived in Galway for many years and would be able to enhance your irish experience by telling you all the best places to go in Galway city, the Aran islands and Connemara where I was born and reared. I like to cook and will offfer freshly baked scones for breakfast. I also love to travel and read.
