About This Listing
This is your opportunity to sleep in a beautiful picture postcard thatched cottage. The cottage is 250 years old and your bedroom is in the original cottage under the thatch. There is a large extension out the back which contains a sitting room with a real fire place which burns turf (peat) and a beautiful bathroom with a bath and shower. This bathroom would be for your sole use.
The bedroom is a good size double room with a very comfortable bed.. You would also have the use of a fully equipped kitchen,a dining room with a 200 year old dresser (hutch) and a sitting room, I provide a continental style breakfast with home made breads and scones, fruit, yoghurt and tea and freshly brewed coffee.
Moycullen is a pleasant village, a 20 minute drive from Galway city situated on the shores of lough Corrib. Moycullen is considered to be the gateway to Connemara as it is on the main road to Clifden, the main town in Connemara. It is an ideal base to explore Connemara National Park and the Aran islands and of course Galway city, the cultural capital of Ireland with its vibrant arts scene and colourful narrow streets. There are bus connections to Clifden and Galway city.
.Moycullen itself is a charming small village with a large supermarket and a range of bars and restaurants,There is a wonderful Friday food market. It is rural living at its best while being a short drive from the vibrancy of Galway city.
This is a truly unique opportunity to experience country cottage living and the best of irish hospitality.
You will be guests in my house and will have free access to the kitchen and living room. I would like guests to feel at home and to know that they are welcome to share my space.
Interaction with Guests
As much as they want. I tend to follow the guests lead on this. I am happy to chat and offer advice but equally am happy to give guests space and leave them to their own devices.
Moycullen is a lovely community where people are friendly. It has great amenities- restaurants, pubs, a good supermarket and even a health food shop. It is about 15 min drive to the coast (Spiddal) and a 20 min drive to Galway city. It is situated on the main road to Clifden so you would have a head start in the morning as you head out to tour Connemara.
It is not really feasible to travel by public transport- you would really need a car. If you are depending on public transport, make contact and we'll see what we can work out.
Other Things to Note
This is a very special chance to stay in a very special house. Contrary to the photos you see, thatched cottages are rare in Ireland.
I would expect guests to be respectful of the fact that I am welcoming them into my home and to treat the house with reasonable care, I have travelled a lot and I know that my best experiences have been with people who have provided hospitality for me in their homes, I feel this is my chance to provide that experience for you.Smoking is not allowed.
From Mar 1 - May 31, 2015 the minimum stay is 1 night.
Aingeal was very accommodating about the time of arrival. Directions to her home were clear. It was a quiet, semi-rural area, but with easy reach of Galway, and a good starting point for exploring Connemara. Facilities were great, with a private bathroom and large bright living areas, that were made available to us. We stayed two nights. Aingeal made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We were provided with all the comforts of home. Home baked, and other food, was appetising and plentiful. A picnic lunch was even provided for us for one day. We found Aingeal a very interesting and informative host. We enjoyed chatting with her and sharing ideas and stories. Overall a very pleasant stay with a congenial host!
Aingeal could not have been more welcoming. Her beautiful home set in an enchanting landscape was the perfect place to decompress during my Galway stay. Aingeal cooked and baked for me and let me talk the hind legs off her! A warm fascinating hostess. You couldn't do better.
Aingeal is the most pleasant, warm and hospitable host you could ever hope for. Her home is absolutely beautiful and charming, and the bed most comfy. However, this is not what you will remember from your stay. What you will remember is her welcoming nature, eagerness to please and make your stay the best it can be, and the way she goes above and beyond. Not only did she make the best fresh scones every morning for breakfast, but she even packed us a lunch for our daily adventures. She is by far the most welcoming and helpful host we've ever encountered on AirBNB. Aingeal, we feel like we made a true new friend - if you ever come to Ottawa, Canada (and we hope you do), our home is your home!
A delightful host in a delightful home built 2 centuries ago, but immaculately renovated. We had great conversation & Aingeal had a depth of knowledge & feeling for Ireland & the surrounds. We were fed very very well & Aingeal went beyond the call of duty rescuing our washing from the rain. Thankyou for a wonderful & relaxed time in Moycullen.
Wonderful welcome, Aingeal is a warm friendly person. The beautiful thatched cottage was all that we expected. Excellent facilities comfortable bed. Made to feel very "at home". The scones were amazing and Aingeal even provided some for our lunch on the journey. Thoroughly recommend this excellent accommodation, thank you Angeal.
Aingeal is a wonderful host, you really couldn't ask for much more. She was generous, welcoming, knowledgeable and easy to speak too.
The breakfast was, (as mentioned by other guest) fantastic, with freshly cooked scones, granola, tea - the works.
It is a well situated cottage for all the surrounding country side and access to Galway ( a car is very much recommended).
If you are in this area and need somewhere to stay, make it here.
Our best experience in Ireland! Traditional house renovated with taste, nice and confortable house at the gate of the Connemara... but mostly an host really careful who prepared us delicious bakeries (best scones ever) and who has take of her time to share with us. A place and an host to meet!
Thanks a lot for your welcome, you made your days in the Connemara great!

I have lived in Galway for many years and would be able to enhance your irish experience by telling you all the best places to go in Galway city, the Aran islands and Connemara where I was born and reared. I like to cook and will offer freshly baked scones and bread for breakfast. I also love to travel and read.
