About this listing
This is your opportunity to sleep in a beautiful picture postcard thatched cottage. The cottage is 250 years old and your bedroom is in the original cottage under the thatch. There is a large extension out the back which contains a sitting room with a real fire place which burns turf (peat) and a beautiful bathroom with a bath and shower. This bathroom would be for your sole use.
The bedroom is a good size double room with a very comfortable bed.. You would also have the use of a fully equipped kitchen,a dining room with a 200 year old dresser (hutch) and a sitting room, I provide a continental style breakfast with home made breads and scones, fruit, yoghurt and tea and freshly brewed coffee.
Moycullen is a pleasant village, a 20 minute drive from Galway city situated on the shores of lough Corrib. Moycullen is considered to be the gateway to Connemara as it is on the main road to Clifden, the main town in Connemara. It is an ideal base to explore Connemara National Park and the Aran islands and of course Galway city, the cultural capital of Ireland with its vibrant arts scene and colourful narrow streets. There are bus connections to Clifden and Galway city.
.Moycullen itself is a charming small village with a large supermarket and a range of bars and restaurants,There is a wonderful Friday food market. It is rural living at its best while being a short drive from the vibrancy of Galway city.
This is a truly unique opportunity to experience country cottage living and the best of irish hospitality.
You will be guests in my house and will have free access to the kitchen and living room. I would like guests to feel at home and to know that they are welcome to share my space.
Interaction with Guests
As much as they want. I tend to follow the guests lead on this. I am happy to chat and offer advice but equally am happy to give guests space and leave them to their own devices.
Moycullen is a lovely community where people are friendly. It has great amenities- restaurants, pubs, a good supermarket and even a health food shop. It is about 15 min drive to the coast (Spiddal) and a 20 min drive to Galway city. It is situated on the main road to Clifden so you would have a head start in the morning as you head out to tour Connemara.
It is not really feasible to travel by public transport- you would really need a car. If you are depending on public transport, make contact and we'll see what we can work out.
Other Things to Note
This is a very special chance to stay in a very special house. Contrary to the photos you see, thatched cottages are rare in Ireland.
Please note that I use what's app- useful for free texts.
I would expect guests to be respectful of the fact that I am welcoming them into my home and to treat the house with reasonable care, I have travelled a lot and I know that my best experiences have been with people who have provided hospitality for me in their homes, I feel this is my chance to provide that experience for you.Smoking is not allowed.

Aingeal's home is perfectly located near Galway and the Connemara region as well as other popular destinations.
We arrived to the bed and breakfast later than expected to tea and a basket full of scones which was amazing! Aingeal was the perfect host making us feel so welcome. She knows the area very well and at our request provided suggestions as to easy day trips to get acclimated to the time zone changes which made such a difference in our overall experience. Her unconventional directions to different places still make me laugh and you will not get lost if you follow them precisely!
Her home and the room were very comfortable and perfectly described on the site. There were mornings that we did not want to adventure out as we were so comfortable in her home. We cannot thank you enough for your hospitality!!
I have no idea where to even start. Let's begin with Aingeal, because she really is what makes this airbnb an absolute pleasure. Never in my life have I met someone as genuine as her. From the moment my girlfriend and I stepped through her door, we felt as if were home. She was so kind to make us fresh scones in the morning (she's a wonderful baker) along with other great breakfast items. On top of that, she packed us a lunch out of pure kindness rather than obligation. Aingeal is what I like to call a ROCKSTAR of airbnb. I truly believe she is the best host out there. As for her cottage, it was the cleanest/nicest airbnb I have been in. It's a newly renovated cottage that is very lovely and modern. She is also so thoughtful to provide you with usb chargers and a basket with hygiene essentials incase you need them. Aingeal, if you reading this, hope you have a lovely trip in Spain and safe travels! Thank you for being so kind to us.
I am not sure when to begin with this review, if I could give the AirBNB hostess of the year award to someone it would most certainly go to Aingeal. From the moment you pull up to her beautiful home you are greeted and made to feel that you are an old friend returning for a visit. Aingeal is warm and welcoming and goes out of her way to make sure your needs are met. Her fresh baked scones in the morning are nothing shy of magnificent along with a breakfast spread fit for a king. Her home is exactly as advertised and I would argue even better than the pictures. The room is spacious and she offers everything from hairdryers to adapters to make your stay more comfortable. The private bathroom is enormous with a lovely shower and tub. But the reason to stay here isn't just because the accommodations are stunning. The reason you should stay here is to meet the wonderful Aingeal. She is a fantastic lady. We originally planned to stay in the area for 1 night but upon reading the reviews many people said to stay for at least 2. I am so grateful that we did. Aingeal gave us many pointers of places to see and where to eat locally and she did not disappoint. We never would have gone to some of the places and we would have missed out on some real Irish gems. She also went above and beyond and packed us lunches everyday which was truly helpful as we explored the countryside. My advice to anyone looking to stay in Connemara you really must stay here. And if you do, take the time to get to know Aingeal she can make your trip that much better from her pointers and just by meeting a great person. Aingeal you are welcome to our home anytime.
Aingeel's home is a nice blend of Irish hospitality and traditional /contemporary architecture. A delightful host who stops at nothing to make you feel welcome. Her scones and homemade bread were delicious and she gave us a wonderful breakfast and even packed a picnic lunch for us. Aingeal's lovely Irish humour made our stay a delight.
Aingeal nous a reçus comme des rois dans son cottage. Hôte très attentionnée et accueillante, elle s'est montrée très disponible et nous a vraiment gâtés. Une adresse au calme, idéal pour découvrir la région.
About the Host, Aingeal
I have lived in Galway for many years and would be able to enhance your irish experience by telling you all the best places to go in Galway city, the Aran islands and Connemara where I was born and reared. I like to cook and will offer freshly baked scones and bread for breakfast. I also love to travel and read.
