The Space

This is your opportunity to sleep in a beautiful picture postcard thatched cottage. The cottage is 250 years old and your bedroom is in the original cottage under the thatch. There is a large extension out the back which contains a sitting room with a real fire place which burns turf (peat) and a beautiful bathroom with a bath and shower. This bathroom would be for your sole use.

The bedroom is a good size double room with a very comfortable bed.. You would also have the use of a fully equipped kitchen,a dining room with a 200 year old dresser (hutch) and a sitting room, I provide a continental style breakfast with home made breads and scones, fruit, yoghurt and tea and freshly brewed coffee.

Moycullen is a pleasant village, a 20 minute drive from Galway city situated on the shores of lough Corrib. Moycullen is considered to be the gateway to Connemara as it is on the main road to Clifden, the main town in Connemara. It is an ideal base to explore Connemara National Park and the Aran islands and of course Galway city, the cultural capital of Ireland with its vibrant arts scene and colourful narrow streets. There are bus connections to Clifden and Galway city.

.Moycullen itself is a charming small village with a large supermarket and a range of bars and restaurants,There is a wonderful Friday food market. It is rural living at its best while being a short drive from the vibrancy of Galway city.

This is a truly unique opportunity to experience country cottage living and the best of irish hospitality.

Guest Access

You will be guests in my house and will have free access to the kitchen and living room. I would like guests to feel at home and to know that they are welcome to share my space.

Interaction with Guests

As much as they want. I tend to follow the guests lead on this. I am happy to chat and offer advice but equally am happy to give guests space and leave them to their own devices.

The Neighborhood

Moycullen is a lovely community where people are friendly. It has great amenities- restaurants, pubs, a good supermarket and even a health food shop. It is about 15 min drive to the coast (Spiddal) and a 20 min drive to Galway city. It is situated on the main road to Clifden so you would have a head start in the morning as you head out to tour Connemara.

Getting around

It is not really feasible to travel by public transport- you would really need a car. If you are depending on public transport, make contact and we'll see what we can work out.

Other Things to Note

This is a very special chance to stay in a very special house. Contrary to the photos you see, thatched cottages are rare in Ireland.

  • The cottage was really nice, comfortable and Aingael was very welcoming, warm and generous . There was a constant stream of home made bread, scones and cake, all delicious and Aingael sent me off every day with a bag of goodies. I felt at home and enjoyed cups of tea and chats with Aingael. Fantastic

  • Aingeal is the perfect hostess! She provided us tea and scones on our arrival, breakfast, lunches, great ideas for places to eat, see, and enjoy music.
She grew up in the area and really knows its hidden secrets. We had planned on using the cottage as a base to explore Galway. But after listening to Aingeal, we wound up exploring Spiddle and the coast road instead and never made it to Galway because we were enjoying ourselves too much. We had also planned on listening to traditional music in Galway but, based on her recommendation, enjoyed two jam sessions in Spiddle where the music was for the musicians and we felt like the only tourists in the place.
The cottage is very modern and up to date in a great location.
We would gladly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a great host and doesn't mind being in the country.

  • Aingeal was a delightful host and we think of her as a new friend. Her house is lovely and well stocked and the breakfasts were delightful. She offered so many extra touches such as offering us snack and beer when we first arrived and sending along her wonderful scones and cheese as a picnic when we went off sightseeing. She gave us detailed info on what to see and do in the area and wrote out the Irish place names which was so helpful. This is a funny, bright, worldly lady who is a joy to spend time with.

  • Just had a great few days stay with Aingeal in Moycullen Co. Galway. The house was very comfortable and warm , full of old world charm with modern touches, loved the couch for watching the world cup soccer matches! Had freshly baked Scones every morning for my breakfast can't get much better then that…
Aingeal is a great host , very helpful and will go out of her way to sort you out..
Make sure to give her a shout if you are ever in the Moycullen area...

  • Aingeal was so wonderful! I highly recommend staying at her home for a great "base" for Galway and other great places! She made delicious scones for breakfast and sent me with a lunch each day which I enjoyed at the beach. She had great advise for places to visit so that I could get a real feel for local life.

  • Aingeal was a perfect host! We felt welcomed and comfortable. She was a wealth of information about what to do in the Connemara and gave us wonderful food suggestions. She was also very responsive to emails and text which were appreciated since we were planning the trip from afar and had a complex traveling schedule. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom incredibly clean. It felt like staying at a friend's house. I loved staying in the old part of the house!

  • Aingeal is a legend! She is a great host and we felt right at home from the moment we walked in. The house is nothing short of stunning, we had our own massive bathroom and the bed provided us with the best nights sleep of the entire trip.

Breakfast was phenomenal - freshly made scones, berries and porridge and a decent cup of real coffee. We spent the days following her very useful travel advise and the nights in front of the fire discussing anything from world politics, the Irish language or travel - Aingeal is well travel and well educated. A pleasure to be around!

This is not like staying in a hotel, this is like visiting your favourite relative who could not do enough for you! We thank you for hosting us and could not recommend you and your home more!!!

  • My stay with Aingeal was terrific. Her place is lovely, and the room and bathroom were clean, comfortable, spacious and practically decadent!

Aingeal looks after every little detail, and was the greatest host I could ask for. She helped me book things, offered me food, took me around the village, and was friendly, generous and kind. We had some great chats too by the fireside.

I'd highly recommend staying with Aingeal for as long as you can :)

  • Wow. We so thoroughly enjoyed our time with Aingeal! We got ourselves a bit turned around trying to find her, but she immediately came and met us in her car and then led us to her charming cottage. From the very start, she was kindness. As we were celebrating my daughter's high school graduation (with the trip), she repeatedly went to special efforts to make our time with her special. The bedroom and bathroom were roomy. She opened her kitchen and her sitting room to us as if we were a part of her family. We were able to relax and simply enjoy her hospitality from start to finish. And it's true about the scones-----absolutely delicious!
