About this listing
This is your opportunity to sleep in a beautiful picture postcard thatched cottage. The cottage is 250 years old and your bedroom is in the original cottage under the thatch. There is a large extension out the back which contains a sitting room with a real fire place which burns turf (peat) and a beautiful bathroom with a bath and shower. This bathroom would be for your sole use.
The bedroom is a good size double room with a very comfortable bed.. You would also have the use of a fully equipped kitchen,a dining room with a 200 year old dresser (hutch) and a sitting room, I provide a continental style breakfast with home made breads and scones, fruit, yoghurt and tea and freshly brewed coffee.
Moycullen is a pleasant village, a 20 minute drive from Galway city situated on the shores of lough Corrib. Moycullen is considered to be the gateway to Connemara as it is on the main road to Clifden, the main town in Connemara. It is an ideal base to explore Connemara National Park and the Aran islands and of course Galway city, the cultural capital of Ireland with its vibrant arts scene and colourful narrow streets. There are bus connections to Clifden and Galway city.
.Moycullen itself is a charming small village with a large supermarket and a range of bars and restaurants,There is a wonderful Friday food market. It is rural living at its best while being a short drive from the vibrancy of Galway city.
This is a truly unique opportunity to experience country cottage living and the best of irish hospitality.
You will be guests in my house and will have free access to the kitchen and living room. I would like guests to feel at home and to know that they are welcome to share my space.
Interaction with Guests
As much as they want. I tend to follow the guests lead on this. I am happy to chat and offer advice but equally am happy to give guests space and leave them to their own devices.
Moycullen is a lovely community where people are friendly. It has great amenities- restaurants, pubs, a good supermarket and even a health food shop. It is about 15 min drive to the coast (Spiddal) and a 20 min drive to Galway city. It is situated on the main road to Clifden so you would have a head start in the morning as you head out to tour Connemara.
It is not really feasible to travel by public transport- you would really need a car. If you are depending on public transport, make contact and we'll see what we can work out.
Other Things to Note
This is a very special chance to stay in a very special house. Contrary to the photos you see, thatched cottages are rare in Ireland.
Please note that I use what's app- useful for free texts.
I would expect guests to be respectful of the fact that I am welcoming them into my home and to treat the house with reasonable care, I have travelled a lot and I know that my best experiences have been with people who have provided hospitality for me in their homes, I feel this is my chance to provide that experience for you.Smoking is not allowed.
Aingeal was an absolutely lovely host who went out of her way to make her home welcome to us. Her cottage was also beautiful - the interior (especially our amenities) were fantastic to see and stay in. The drive to downtown Galway was also a quick and easy trip to make.
Also, her scones are absolutely AMAZING! Just icing on the cake! Would definitely recommend staying here for anyone looking for a more authentic experience!
Had a wonderful experience at the cottage ! We got a very warm, homely and generous welcome. There was a lovely, relaxed atmosphere in the house. The breakfast the next morning was delicious , Aingeal made us beautiful scones. The property itself was perfect , there was a very comfortable living room to relax in , the bedroom was beautifully decorated and had everything in it that we needed and it was within a close proximity to Galway . We wished that we had stayed another night and will definitely be back.
Upon arrival Aingeal gave us a warm welcome and instantly made us feel at home. She sat us down and made us afternoon tea, which was very much appreciated after a long drive. Our room was very clean and comfortable and also the bathroom which was very modern . in fact the whole cottage had been beautifully renovated. The country side where the cottage is situated is beautiful and quiet.
Aingeal was a warm and most friendly host and even packed us lunch when we left to head back to Dublin Airport.
She gave us good advise about where to go, what to see, and where to eat. Speaking of which, thanks for the scones Aingeal, they were delicious.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would readily recommend this charming cottage B&B.
OH MY GOD !!!!!!
THE BEST SCONES OF IRELAND !!!!
Next time we'll come back in ireland to visit Connemara and be sure we'll began out stay in your home !!
Encore merci Aingeal
Aingeal's home is perfectly located near Galway and the Connemara region as well as other popular destinations.
We arrived to the bed and breakfast later than expected to tea and a basket full of scones which was amazing! Aingeal was the perfect host making us feel so welcome. She knows the area very well and at our request provided suggestions as to easy day trips to get acclimated to the time zone changes which made such a difference in our overall experience. Her unconventional directions to different places still make me laugh and you will not get lost if you follow them precisely!
Her home and the room were very comfortable and perfectly described on the site. There were mornings that we did not want to adventure out as we were so comfortable in her home. We cannot thank you enough for your hospitality!!
