Description

The space

This is your opportunity to sleep in a beautiful picture postcard thatched cottage. The cottage is 250 years old and your bedroom is in the original cottage under the thatch. There is a large extension out the back which contains a sitting room with a real fire place which burns turf (peat) and a beautiful bathroom with a bath and shower. This bathroom would be for your sole use.

The bedroom is a good size double room with a very comfortable bed.. You would also have the use of a fully equipped kitchen,a dining room with a 200 year old dresser (hutch) and a sitting room, I provide a continental style breakfast with home made breads and scones, fruit, yoghurt and tea and freshly brewed coffee.

Moycullen is a pleasant village, a 20 minute drive from Galway city situated on the shores of lough Corrib. Moycullen is considered to be the gateway to Connemara as it is on the main road to Clifden, the main town in Connemara. It is an ideal base to explore Connemara National Park and the Aran islands and of course Galway city, the cultural capital of Ireland with its vibrant arts scene and colourful narrow streets. There are bus connections to Clifden and Galway city.

.Moycullen itself is a charming small village with a large supermarket and a range of bars and restaurants,There is a wonderful Friday food market. It is rural living at its best while being a short drive from the vibrancy of Galway city.

This is a truly unique opportunity to experience country cottage living and the best of irish hospitality.

Guest access

You will be guests in my house and will have free access to the kitchen and living room. I would like guests to feel at home and to know that they are welcome to share my space.

Interaction with guests

As much as they want. I tend to follow the guests lead on this. I am happy to chat and offer advice but equally am happy to give guests space and leave them to their own devices.

The neighborhood

Moycullen is a lovely community where people are friendly. It has great amenities- restaurants, pubs, a good supermarket and even a health food shop. It is about 15 min drive to the coast (Spiddal) and a 20 min drive to Galway city. It is situated on the main road to Clifden so you would have a head start in the morning as you head out to tour Connemara.

Getting around

It is not really feasible to travel by public transport- you would really need a car. If you are depending on public transport, make contact and we'll see what we can work out.

Other things to note

This is a very special chance to stay in a very special house. Contrary to the photos you see, thatched cottages are rare in Ireland.
Please note that I use - useful for free texts.

Regrettably my worst Airbnb experience after half-a-decade of as a well-reviewed guest and host. We would have arrived exactly at the agreed time if the satellite navigation coordinates provided didn’t send us to another town nearly an hour away. When we finally survived the hair-rising evening drive on narrow country roads, the host berated us like children to hurry up so we don’t inconvenience her any further. She flatly refused our recommendation to review her satellite coordinates for the benefit of future guests, accusing us instead of having a faulty navigation system and suggesting that we deserved the harrowing experience because we arrived at night. The next morning the host made no effort to be quiet when she left at 7 AM, as if in retaliation. Even picking up money from the side of the road requires making the effort of bending over and this accommodation commanded an above-market price. Had this been my first Airbnb experience, I would never return to this platform.

Response from Aingeal:
I'm not even going to dignify this review with a response other than to suggest that future guests read a selection of my reviews and decide for themselves where the fault lies. Interesting that after 155 five star reviews, they're the first guests to complain about the sat nav co ordinates.

Aingeal was a wonderful host, offering to meet us nearby to make finding her home more easily. She didn't mind our later check-in, offered us coffee, tea, snack, or water upon our arrival, and set out a nice breakfast of yogurt and scones in the morning. She ensured we were all set during our stay and after. Her home is very nice and the guest space is cleanly and neat. Very comfortable towels!

We loved our stay with Aingeal. She was our first host upon our arrival to Ireland. We couldn't have asked for a better welcome! Her home is lovely and spacious, complete with your own restroom. Aingeal fixed us the most delicious breakfast for our two mornings, and was even kind enough to pack us a picnic lunch for our daily adventures which was so helpful, appreciated and enjoyed. Aingeal was a great host and willing to engage in conversation and answer all of our questions! She was very knowledgeable about both the area and Ireland as a whole. We would recommend anyone considering staying in her lovely thatched cottage to do so, you not regret it!

Aingeal was most welcoming with snacks and tea when we arrived. She was very hospitable and friendly. She baked the best bread and scones and they were fresh each morning! It is a very comfortable place and easy to access. She even provides shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush.

This was an incredibly beautiful house in a great location just outside of Galway. Aingeal was one of the best hosts I have ever stayed with in Airbnb. From the beautiful room to the amazing breakfast, with some of the best scones I have ever had, our entire stay was absolutely perfect. Thank you Aingeal!

Aingeal was a wonderful host and her home is beautiful!! This was our first time using Airbnb, so we weren't sure what to expect, but we couldn't be happier that we chose to book with Aingeal. We got in late the first night but she was very kind and even offered us homemade fruit cake and chamomile tea to help us get to sleep after our long flight. In the morning she made us very delicious scones with raisins after my husband mentioned he liked raisins the night before! The second morning we were leaving very early and let her know it would be ok to not have breakfast because we wouldn't expect her to get up that early, but she happily woke up anyway and set up another wonderful breakfast! Both days she surprised us by packing us lunches which were very tasty and came in handy on our long days out. We were also thankful to see she had a US outlet converter for USBs in our room so we could charge our phones at night! Aingeal definitely enhanced our trip and our experience in Ireland!!

I have lived in Galway for many years and would be able to enhance your irish experience by telling you all the best places to go in Galway city, the Aran islands and Connemara where I was born and reared. I like to cook and will offer freshly baked scones and bread for breakfast. I also love to travel and read.
