Interaction with Guests
We are here and want you to be as welcome and comfortable as possible. We are available to assist and advise you in any way we can. We are Brits but have lived here for 23 years so know the area well and enjoy meeting new people. We will be around during your stay and will prepare continental breakfast for you each morning - always a good time for a chat!
However, please understand we are a B&B, not an hotel. We expect our guests to be out and about during the day as we work from home and often have meetings in the house. If you want to hang out somewhere for extended periods during the day, you would be better off getting a hotel as they are equipped for that.
Very close to beaches, shops, Montecito village and downtown. However, none of these are walking distance.
Sorry, there is no convenient public transport, so you will definitely need a car.
Other Things to Note
Unlike many others, when we say B&B, we mean B&B! The price includes a full continental breakfast each morning, with Peets French-roast coffee, tea, fresh, home-baked croissants, Greek yoghurt, fresh fruits and granola. Hooray!
DOGS: If you wish to bring a dog, please ask in advance. If approved, a nightly pet fee of $20 will apply.
HOT TUB: The Hot Tub needs to be heated from cold on each use, so we charge a $10 fee to cover gas usage.
A few basic rules:
1. Smoking only allowed in the garden.
2. Please put your dirty dishes in the dishwasher.
3. Please do not park in front of the garage.
4. This is a "B&B" so we provide breakfast. Please do not ask if you can use our kitchen to cook. However, feel free to use the fridge, microwave etc etc.
4. Please do not eat in the bedrooms.
5. Check out time means ... check out time. We have to prepare the room for other guests.
You can be sure we will try our best to be the most excellent hosts! For anyone new to Airbnb, below are a few thoughts lifted from GIZMODO on how to be a great Airbnb guest!
DON'T IGNORE YOUR EMAIL
Last-minute changes to the host's schedule make it crucial to be in touch as soon as possible. So stay reachable in the days leading up to your stay. And, if at all possible, check your email when the plane lands or before you arrive.
DON'T MISS ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE TIMES
Hosts are not running hotels, and they don't have a reception desk. The host absolutely needs to know a firm check in time, as far in advance as possible. Sometimes separate guests leave and arrive on the same day. The place has to be cleaned and prepared for the next visitor. For extensions of check-out times (or the occasional 7 am check-in), a host will try to accommodate. Guests can usually leave luggage behind during the last day, or drop it off early if the room isn't ready yet. Just be sure to ask in advance.
GO OUT AND HAVE FUN!
B&B = Bed & Breakfast! In a shared space, the best tenants spend most of their time out enjoying the city. If you're looking to shut yourself in and hang out all day, look for a whole-apartment Airbnb rental.
Hotels have maids. Airbnb has hosts. As Airbnb put it in an email: "Consider stripping the beds or taking out the trash to go the extra mile." Well, that would be fantastic. Use the campsite rule—leave no trace.
COMMUNICATE PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS
A host hates to read post-visit reviews complaining of not enough towels. You know what? If you want another towel, just ask. The host is not trying to hold out on you, but the host can't know you need something unless you speak up. All hosts want you to have a good stay, but it's up to you to say what to do to make that happen.
My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay in Montecito at Richard's home. His photos do not do it justice! The room was very private, clean, and quiet. The fresh baked pastries at breakfast in the morning were a nice touch. The location was convenient to get to downtown Santa Barbara and beaches and nice hikes in Montecito but you definitely need a car. And you MUST go to El Sitio for tacos if you stay with Richard. My boyfriend and I went twice during our stay and wish we had time to go a third time.
If you're looking for a beautiful, quiet place to stay while you explore Santa Barbara and Montecito, this is the place for you.
Richard was very hospitable and was available to help us maneuver around the city. The accommodations were lovely and fit well for our style, as was the breakfast in the morning.
The eclectic surroundings were a delight to our eyes, along with the outside deck to relax over a glass of wine in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank-you.
Beautiful view from a very beautiful home. Situated up in the hills, this Airbnb was a great find to see more of Santa Barbara! Richard was extremely courteous and his homemade breakfasts a real treat to enjoy.
Will recommend to anyone who wants a wonderful nights sleep and a bit of California history.
Magnificent home in a beautiful setting with a perfect host. One of the best places I have ever stayed. Thank you Richard.
Richard was a very good host, communicative, accommodating and helpful. I had a lovely stay in Santa Barbara and appreciated all of the amenities and thoughtful things that Richard did to make my stay comfortable. The house is stunning, filled with a lifetime of interesting art and the entire space is designed beautifully with privacy in mind. I had a lovely stay.
What an amazing home! By far the best Airbnb experience I have ever had! Not only was the home stunningly beautiful, but our host Richard was warm and gracious, kind and generous. He took the time to give us sightseeing info - recommending activities of interest in the area (boat parade and fireworks at the beach) and of course - travel directions! We loved the delicious coffee and breakfast treats (fresh fruit, Greek yogurt and freshly baked croissants - yummy!) and the view of the Pacific Ocean while breakfasting al fresco was a wonderful way to start the day. The outdoor areas have the most interesting landscaping and we were surrounded by the beauty of nature in the coastal California bit of paradise! This place is tastefully decorated with beautiful art and gorgeous furnishings...from the moment we stepped foot on the property, we were surrounded by a true sense of stylish - yet relaxed - luxury! The bathroom was a dream - absolutely gorgeous tile and thick plush towels and luscious bath products! Everything smelled so wonderful. The bed we slept in was so soft and comfortable. My mother said it was like sleeping in a marshmallow! We truly felt at home and can't wait to come back for another visit.
Richard was out of town this past weekend but his son Xan was a wonderful host! He was very nice to accommodate us at the time of arrival and showed us around! The room was clean and cozy and the view was absolutely gorgeous! There is a very nice patio that looks out towards the ocean! Also, the best part of this stay is the delicious breakfast in the morning...fresh baked plain and chocolate croissants and fruits! I would definitely stay here again if I'm in town. Thanks, Xan!
