Our spacious, recently renovated home has two double bedrooms available both with own bathrooms and wifi access. Parking is available along with access to large kitchen. 5 minutes walk to NUIG/UHG and just 10 minutes walk to city centre.

The Space

The house was built in the 1950's originally and then extensively renovated and extended in 2011. Old meets new in a spacious yet cosy family home. Parking is available but you won't need your car as all the main Galway attractions are within easy walking distance of the house.

Guest Access

There will be fridge, freezer and cupboard space made available in the kitchen for guests. You are welcome to cook in the kitchen as long as you clean afterwards! Lots of Books, DVDs and board games available for you to use during your stay. You can enjoy the garden space too if the sun shines on your visit.

Interaction with Guests

During the week I will be at work during the day but home for a while most evenings to advise guests on activities to do in and around Galway.

The Neighborhood

The neighbourhood is a great mix of older residents, families and some students during the academic year. Everyone gets along well in this safe, friendly neighbourhood. You can walk to all the main attractions that Galway has to offer. There is also a great selection of places to eat near the house along with a small supermarket, butchers and late night pharmacy. There is a gym in the university grounds with pool, sauna, steam room and squash courts - you can pay to use facilities at designated hours.

Getting around

It only takes 15 minutes to walk from the house to the centre of town and 25 minutes to walk to Salthill. There are bus stops very nearby for the local city bus networks. The bus and train stations in Eyre Square are a 20 minute walk away or 5 minutes by taxi. There is a taxi rank around the corner from the house. A taxi from town will cost about €8. There is bike rental close to the house too.

Other Things to Note

There is so much to do in Galway that you will find it hard to fit it all in! There are loads of festivals - the arts festival, the oyster festival, the races, comedy festival, film fleadh, visual arts, sailing and more. Entertainment options include the theatre, cinema, live music, dance classes, sporting activities, comedy nights, free talks and lectures and of course the great pubs and clubs the city has to offer. You can walk or rent a bike to explore the cities trails and head out to salthill to kick the wall.

  • Joanna's place is perfectly located: it is a 10-minute walk from the city center and right by the Cathedral. The rooms were lovely -- nice sized sunny bedrooms – with great showers. Joanna is easy-going and helpful: talking to her gave us an insider's sense of living in the city and how it has changed over time. The morning's continental breakfast was an easy hang and she recommended we catch the local farmer's market (a good one!) before leaving. She even helped us plan out the rest of our Ireland itinerary. Highly recommended.

  • Our two-night stay in Joanna's house was lovely in every respect. The house is nicely located, a 10-minute walk to the center of town and lots of fabulous little restaurants. It's spacious, airy, quiet, and beautifully maintained. We had a comfortable bed and a big closet, and the en suite bathroom was a real plus. Joanna is a truly charming and helpful host. Definitely a five-star experience!

  • We stayed at Joanna's place for about two days and it was absolutely wonderful. She was so nice and obliging to us. Her house is wide open and the rooms are very inventive - especially the bathroom with its big bathtub. She helped us with all our questions and is a great person. The house is just a few minutes away from Galway-City. We can highly recommend Joanna's place to everyone.
