Spend time in a small New England town in the foothills of the Berkshires on the Deerfield River. You can walk to great restaurants and beautiful galleries. Share our large Victorian home/gardens with us and 2 friendly cats in your cozy two-single bedroom.

The Space

Our Victorian home has tall ceilings and large rooms. It's family-friendly - no fancy furniture or antiques. Just lots of spaces that are pleasing and comfortable. On the first floor, there's a large living room, dining room, and kitchen. There are two bathrooms on the first floor - a half bath under the front stairs and a bathroom with a shower behind the kitchen. There's a side porch off the kitchen leading out to the yard. On the second floor there's your cozy bedroom with two twin beds and a shared bathroom with a tub and shower. (We can put a single mattress on the floor if you would like to share the room with a third person for an additional charge of $20/night.)

Guest Access

You'll have access to our large living room, dining room (seats 12), fully-equipped kitchen, two and a half shared bathrooms, a side porch with a hammock and barbeque, bicycles, a musty cellar with ping pong and a a pool table, and large backyard.

Interaction with Guests

Whether you're looking for fun, romance, or rest and relaxation, we do our best to provide the right setting for you. Some of our guests come for a romantic get-away. We give them lots of privacy and provide a beautiful, spacious, peaceful place with delicious local food. Some of our guests come and live with us and we end up sharing meals, sharing stories, making music, and having fun together. Just let us know what you are looking for!

The Neighborhood

Shelburne Falls is a very unique place. The Deerfield River flows down the middle of the town, cascading down through huge rocks worn into beautiful formations. Our "Bridge of Flowers" is an old trolley bridge, perfect for an early evening walk over the river surrounded by all the latest blooms. There's a touch of something old fashion here that we love. We don't have chain stores - just locally owned restaurants and small businesses with lots of character. In three blocks, we have several great restaurants, a coffee house with great musicians coming (email hidden)-op, a small supermarket, a specialty wine store, two pottery studios, a glass blower, an art gallery, lots of alternative medical practitioners, an herb school, and more. We don't have a mayor - just three people on our Select Board who implement the decisions we make together at our annual town meeting. It's a place where you can relax, breathe deeply, and let your worries go. Berkshire East ski slope is close by. Our town is great for walking and biking. Great hikes are close by too.

Getting around

It's best to have a car to get around here.
It's an easy walk down Main Street to the center of town.
You can get local bus service from Northampton, Amherst and Greenfield to Shelburne Falls on the Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA). There are only a couple buses each day when they run. Check the schedule here: (website hidden). The JWO Transit Center is in Greenfield. Shelburne Falls is on the Charlemont/Greenfield route.

Other Things to Note

We have spent a lot of time figuring ways to live more wisely in our home, investing in a solar hot water system that provides most of our hot water six months of the year, lots of insulation, window and door upgrades, natural cooling systems, composting, and permaculture gardens. When you stay with us, you probably won't notice any of these things unless you look for them, but you might notice that our home feels comfortable and cozy year round.

  • We had a terrific visit to Lynn and Dan's place in Shelburne Falls. The home is super accommodating with a lovely room that is privately situated. The welcoming atmosphere, spacious kitchen and dining area, gardens, chickens and charming town/neighborhood combined to make for a memorable and enlivening visit. Breakfast with Lynn, Dan, Lynn's Mom and daughter Maya was so very comfortable and engaging.

  • Third stay with Lynn and Dan, and the experience remains the same - absolutely excellent. Always look forward to good conversation and superb breakfasts. And you never know who you may meet, but they are guaranteed to be as friendly as the hosts. Very highly recommended.

  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay in Lynn and Dan's house. As we entered the house, we received a warm welcome from Lyn and Dan and we just arrived to their weekly music night at the house which was fantastic. The two cats were so friendly and added to the relaxed atmosphere of the house. The bedroom, kitchen, living room, and the two restrooms are clean and well maintained. The house itself is beautiful and the location is great. We had fresh eggs for breakfast with a toast and jam - what a magnificent way to start our morning. We wish we had more time to spend with Lynn and Dan, and we are looking forward to finding an excuse to come visit again.

  • Lynn was kind enough to take us in even tough we made our booking very late. Our Room was Nice and we had a goodnight sleep in the comfortable beds. The family were very generous and offered us coffe and eggs from their own chickens so we could make an omelett for breakfast. We really enjoyed the company of Lynns mother in the morning. We are really impressed by the beautiful village, it is absolutley worth a visit. We had dinner at the West End Pub a resturant in the village and they served excellent food and beer!

  • Excellent airbnb experience. Lynn and Dan were very gracious and fun to talk with. They have a nice home and they are nice people. The twin bed was comfortable. In the morning I got a hug from Lynn's mom, hot coffee and a fresh poached egg from one of their chickens. I had booked for one night but kind of wanted to stay for a few months. Highly recommended.

About
My partner, Dan, and I share our home with my mother, and our two cats. We also have seven chickens living out back who provide us with fresh eggs each morning. Our five children are grown, so we enjoy having people come to visit. Our friend Patricia helps people get settled in and sets up for breakfast when we're away. Dan's an acupuncturist and I manage an energy cooperative. Before that Dan was a carpenter and I was a teacher. My mom used to teach middle school years ago, and then lived on an ashram in India for 14 years. (She's really fun to talk to.) We love gardening, building things, fixing things, learning, spending time with family and friends, and making music. We're really into using resources wisely - composting, natural cooling systems, growing our own food, using biodiesel in one of our cars, and sharing what we have. We do lots of volunteer work in our community. Dan enjoys soccer and basketball. Patricia is a writer, a gardener, and a mother of 3. Our son and her daughter have been dating for 5 years, so she'd part of the family!
