Interaction with Guests
Whether you're looking for fun, romance, or rest and relaxation, we do our best to provide the right setting for you. Some of our guests come for a romantic get-away. We give them lots of privacy and provide a beautiful, spacious, peaceful place with delicious local food. Some of our guests come and live with us and we end up sharing meals, sharing stories, making music, and having fun together. Just let us know what you are looking for!
Shelburne Falls is a very unique place. The Deerfield River flows down the middle of the town, cascading down through huge rocks worn into beautiful formations. Our "Bridge of Flowers" is an old trolley bridge, perfect for an early evening walk over the river surrounded by all the latest blooms. There's a touch of something old fashion here that we love. We don't have chain stores - just locally owned restaurants and small businesses with lots of character. In three blocks, we have several great restaurants, a coffee house with great musicians coming through, a food co-op, a small supermarket, a specialty wine store, two pottery studios, a glass blower, an art gallery, lots of alternative medical practitioners, an herb school, and more. We don't have a mayor - just three people on our Select Board who implement the decisions we make together at our annual town meeting. It's a place where you can relax, breathe deeply, and let your worries go. Berkshire East ski slope is close by. Our town is great for walking and biking. Great hikes are close by too.
It's best to have a car to get around here.
It's an easy walk down Main Street to the center of town.
You can get local bus service from Northampton, Amherst and Greenfield to Shelburne Falls on the Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA). There are only a couple buses each day when they run. Check the schedule here: (website hidden). The JWO Transit Center is in Greenfield. Shelburne Falls is on the Charlemont/Greenfield route.
Other Things to Note
We have spent a lot of time figuring ways to live more wisely in our home, investing in a solar hot water system that provides most of our hot water six months of the year, lots of insulation, window and door upgrades, natural cooling systems, composting, and permaculture gardens. When you stay with us, you probably won't notice any of these things unless you look for them, but you might notice that our home feels comfortable and cozy year round.
No smoking. No pets. Quiet Hours from 11 pm to 7 am.
Lynn was out of town but her mother was there to greet me and made me feel more than welcome! Quiet location about 5 minutes from a cute little downtown.
My boyfriend I enjoyed our stay in Shelburne with Lynn very much! Even though we were just passing through, Shelburne was beautiful -- Bridge of Flowers and the best ice cream shop is only walks away from Lynn's place. Also, she and her family were extremely welcoming and always made sure we were comfortable. Great place to stay!
Lynn and her mother, Shakira, helped make our stay in Shelburne Falls comfortable and relaxing. We arrived later in the evening, after camping for 2 days at the Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, and Shakira was waiting to welcome us into her home. We were given a quick tour of the house (which included a spacious living room with lots of musical instruments, large kitchen, separate tea/coffee station, beautiful big back yard and chicken coop!) and then left alone to shower and sleep in the upstairs bedroom with two twin beds. In the morning we were able to walk into Shelburne Falls from Lynn's home and use this as a base for longer day-long explorations of the area. I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful Air BnB, and make sure to say hello to Charlie the cat.
After a frantic 30 minutes of trying to find Lynn's house on a dark and rainy night ,(I was on the wrong street!) I was greeted on the front porch by a friendly smile and warm hug- I knew I was in good hands! Lynn and her family could have not been more accommodating and friendly!
The room was clean, cozy and quiet and I slept like a baby.
In the morning I had a lovely conversation with Lynn and her very sweet mother and mother-in-law who were visiting. I was only able to get a quick glance at Lynn's beautiful backyard gardens because I had to get on the road, but was offered a cherry scone, warm from the oven, sending me off to start my day with a smile on my face.
The town of Sherburne Falls, just down the street is very quaint and I plan to return to visit the many shops and art galleries that are there.
Overall, being my very 1st Air B&B experience, (being a bit apprehensive about it) I was pleasantly surprised and pleased and would highly recommend Lynn's lovely home to anyone travelling in that area, and would return myself in a heartbeat!
We loved Lynn and Dan's welcome to their home, their family, and their garden! We would definitely stay again!
The listing is just as described, with a comfortable private room on the second floor of this clean and spacious home. Right on Main Street, but in a quiet neighborhood with plenty of parking. Our room had two twin beds with the bathroom just steps away down the hall. Although I guess we were sharing the bathroom with the family, it always seemed available to us and it was clean. Although we arrived early (guess I need to pay more attention!), Lynn's mom greeted us and showed us to the room. They even put a fan in the window (it was a hot night), which made it super comfortable. We were shown the living area and kitchen, which were open to us, but we didn't use them as we were out all the time. Lynn and Dan were friendly and welcoming.
Staying at Lynn and Dan's home in Shelburne Falls was my first experience with an airbnb. I was incredibly selective, not so much with where I wanted to stay, but with who I wanted to stay. Paying careful attention to listing descriptions--what was said and how it was said--I had good sense that I would be comfortable here. To my delight, this home far exceeded my high expectations. Beyond offering a wonderful room in a beautiful home, Lynn and Dan were incredible hosts--welcoming, thoughtful and kind. The morning after we arrived, Lynn invited us to a family breakfast where we talked and talked about sustainability projects, capitalist critiques, poverty and anti-racist actions... I feel I could have stayed at that table for hours with them. I don't have any plans to head back to the north-east but I wouldn't minding booking a room just for another breakfast with the family and conversation. Thanks y'all! :P

About the Host, Lynn
My partner, Dan, and I share our home with my mother, Shakira, and our cat, Charlie. We also have seven chickens living out back who provide us with fresh eggs most mornings. Our five children are grown, so we enjoy having people come to visit, to share our beautiful home with us. Our friend Patricia helps people get settled in when we're away. Dan's an acupuncturist and loves helping people become healthier and happier. A long time ago Dan was a carpenter, but he still loves to build things at our house, like the front porch that welcomes people to our home. I manage Co-op Power, an energy cooperative that helps communities in southern New England create the energy systems they want in their (website hidden)-op Power provides energy efficiency services (including MassSave), biodiesel and heating fuel buying groups, solar installations, and community solar project development. I really love the work and enjoy talking with people about how we can live more simply and more equitably together on this planet. I was a teacher years ago, teaching math, math education, and community economic development from caring for infants in my home daycare through graduate courses for teachers and students at MIT. My mom used to teach middle school years ago, and then lived on an ashram in India for 14 years. (She's really fun to talk to.) We love gardening, building things, fixing things, learning, spending time with family and friends, and making music. We're really into using resources wisely - composting, natural cooling systems, growing our own food, using biodiesel in one of our cars, and sharing what we have. We do lots of volunteer work in our community. Dan enjoys soccer and basketball. Patricia is a writer, a gardener, and a mother of 3.
