  • Such a wonderful place. Kerry & Michele were the perfect mix of welcoming, involved, and respectful of our privacy. The cottage was gorgeous and in perfect condition. We were welcomed w/ open arms and will certainly return if back in Kauai (which is likely).

  • We thouroghly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to others provided they were looking for a down to earth experience with all the amenities you could want. The grounds were immaculate and beautiful. This cottage is the perfect place to relax and unwind. We really loved our downtime there. The outdoor shower is amazing and a great way to start or end the day. As others have noted the roadside noise is noticeable but the AM wake up call from the local roosters was the only really considerable noise and I imagine this can't be avoided on Kauai as they are pretty much everywhere. The Dillberg's were warm and welcoming and provided us with fresh fruit from their property, juice, coffee and snacks upon arrival. They were always available if we needed anything from them and were even so kind as to invite us to their 4th of July party.

All in all it was a fantastic experience with great hosts and definitely contributed to an amazing vacation in Kauai. We look forward to hopefully staying there again someday.

  • The walk to beaches is approximately 2 miles round trip next to a road with a 50 mph speed limit. The cottage was located less than 50 feet from that road and the traffic noise was continuous day and night. Bring ear plugs. The screens in the living room had no interior blinds and privacy was not possible as there was a main house to the north, a rental to the west, and another house to the south. The place was clean but the only table surface for eating was on a bar top and in the afternoon, dinner was looking directly into the bright sun. The bath had a small pullman cabinet with one sink and limited area for toilet kits. Barely enough for one and impossible for two. A shelf in the bathroom would have been helpful or a cabinet to place them on. The host was nice and helpful but the place had many limitations with the kitchenette that had a microwave (email hidden) style sink. Evening meal preparation was a challenge. The appearance is one of great natural ambiance but in our opinion the reality was high end camping near a busy road.

We could tell on our first meeting that Antra and her husband were going to be a challenge as guests - they were they only visitors who have ever stayed with us that weren't excited when they saw the space. They remarked that it looked "interesting". We found that no matter what we offered, they never seemed really happy. Our space is unique and special - I am sorry it was not the right fit for Antra.

  • We stayed in the Dillberg's The Sweet cottage for three nights 5/31 to 6/2/14. The cottage was a delightful space with a screened-in living room/kitchen/pool room and an attached bedroom/bath with more traditional solid walls. The outdoor shower was a particularly fun aspect of the cottage - totally private but open to the sky.

Michele had stocked the kitchen with wonderful organic treats (coffee, granola, yogurt, etc) and fresh-cut flowers graced the living room. Ample towels and beach gear made a trip to the nearby Poipu Beach an easy decision. Michele also made some suggestions for the locals' favorite eateries and activities to help avoid the tourist spots.

The grounds of the Dillberg's property made it feel like we were on a private estate. The cottage was a real departure from staying in hotels or condos and we loved every minute of our stay.

This property won't be for everyone, but if you want the feel of living in close company with "old Hawai'i," then we highly recommend The Sweet

Thanks to the Dillbergs for a unique and special experience.

  • We loved our stay on Kauai and Kerry and Michele have a great little cottage! They were very welcoming and friendly and even had stocked the suite with snacks and drinks! Everything was clean and the cottage was well stocked with everything for cooking your own meals. Michele checked in with us a few times to see if we needed anything, but everything was great. We rented a car which was necessary for exploring the island, however if you are just looking to spend time in Poipu then it is an easy walk or bike ride down to the resorts from this rental. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again! Mahalo

  • The Dillberg's Island hut has everything you could possibly want from your Kauai accommodation. All my interactions with the Michele were incredibly smooth and helpful. They gave me a bike to use free of charge for my entire stay and the hut comes outfitted with delicious juice, coffee, fruit, and other amazing morning snacks... along with a grill and bonfire pit stocked with wood ready to go. My only regret was not having enough time to chill out on the property more and chat with the Dillberg family.. they clearly have it pretty figured out and kindly open to share their Aloha spirt. Mahalo Mr. and Mrs. Dillberg! I hope to see y'all again soon;)

  • We spent a wonderful week at the cottage. It is rustic but comfortable. The screened in living area was delightful, especially in the morning. There is a pool table, which we didn't use ,that dominates the sitting area, but for two people there was enough room around it to sit and relax. We ended up grilling local fish many of the nights that we were there. The kitchen is limited but adequate for 2 people. There is no kitchen table, but a counter that looks out over the lawn, which was a good place to hang in the morning. A fire at night under the stars was a great bonus. It was very windy while we were there and we loved the sound of the wind in the trees, and plants around us. All in all a very nice stay.

  • Kerry & Michele were terrific hosts. They were very accommodating about late arrival. The place was clean and well stocked when I arrived. The cottage is very large, comfortable, and clean, opening on 3 sides to a beautiful lawn. The front room is a large screen porch and very comfortable with a kitchenette, lots of seating; then in back there's a proper bedroom with bathroom. The bathroom opens to a wonderful outdoor shower, which has great water pressure and LOTS of hot water. Plenty of towels, including five (5) huge soft new beach towels. There was also a start-up supply of great coffee and half n half for the coffee, as well as fruit juice, yogurt, bottled water, granola, etc. Kerry & Michele are very nice people and invited me to their firepit for dinner and a drink one evening. The whole stay was a pleasure!

  • We loved our week at 'the Sweet'. Kerry and Michele were warm and gracious hosts. A lovely property! The setting is very relaxing yet close enough to local beaches and shopping. Koloa is a great location for exploring both the west and east side of the island. The kitchen was stocked with organic snacks and beverages which was a lovely surprise. We loved the outdoor shower and our own private fire-pit, which we enjoyed a couple of evenings while star gazing. Thanks for helping to make our winter escape so enjoyable Michele and Kerry!
