Peaceful, relaxing house, in the quiet of the nature, with a wonderful views over the Maiella from the terrace equipped with comfortable outdoor sofas. The house is provided with several spaces on various levels and it is ideal for a pleasant sharing of your vacation. Free Wi-Fi in the entire property.

The space

Casa Elvira Basilico is located in Contrada Basilico in the municipality of San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore (PE), small beautiful village in the heart of the hills of Pescara, at the gates of the Maiella National Park, in a quiet unspoilt countryside, with spectacular view of the Maiella Mountain, the valley and the Adriatic Sea.
The house is a single house / villa, from the nineteenth century and built mainly with the white stone of Maiella, recently refurbished respecting the original building.
While immersed in the green hills of Maiella National Park it is still easily accessible as it is about 25 Km from Pescara airport, and less than 10 minutes from the exit of the highway A25 Roma-Pescara.
Casa Elvira Basilico can easily give a comfortable hospitality up to 10 persons.
The house consists of two bedrooms with en-suite bathroom located on two different levels, a spacious living room with sofa bed, a bright studio with a table and a sofa bed and a fully equipped kitchen. The house is provided with useful mosquito nets on the windows. The independent dependance, located in the garden, can accommodate two more people and has a small kitchen and private bathroom with shower. The house also has a large room located at the same level as the garden: the Fondaco. It is partially built in the rock and with the white stone of the Maiella Mountain making the environment always fresh even during the summer heat. It has an independent kitchen (possibly used for dinners in the garden or in the Fondaco), long table with chairs, bathroom, washing machine and it is ideal for rest, lunch or dinner. For the outdoor life the house has a large terrace with outdoor sofas, accessible both from inside and outside the house, with a wonderful view over the Maiella Mountain, the valley, the surrounding mountains and the Adriatic sea. It also has a garden equipped with gazebo, table, chairs, and small barbecue. The house is provided with sheets, towels, kitchen supplies. Free wifi internet connection in the entire house. Flat screen Satellite TV with foreign channels.

Guest access

Guests can use the entire house.

Interaction with guests

I do not live near the house but I am available for any information. For emergencies, Moana will be available on site. Moana also takes care of housekeeping and house cleaning.

Other things to note

The main village is 2 km from the house so a car is required.

In case of a reservation for only two persons you will be able to use only the entire first floor, consisting of the large kitchen, living room, bedroom with en-suite bathroom and the use of the garden and of the Fondaco. We have this policy to lower the costs for only two guests reservations in a house that can accomodate up to 10 persons.

The neighbors were extremely friendly. I did not realize that the rock area was separate from the main house and the steps going upstairs were extremely steep. But it was worth going up the steps to go to the porch which had a great view. There was a bedroom and bath on the main floor and a bedroom with bath upstairs. There were 4 of us and we were very comfortable.

Okay, I have stayed in all variety of accommodations in the Abruzzo region of Italy and those past experiences had led to the belief that I would never find the perfect place to stay in the area. Well, I am pleased to report that is not the case! Casa Elvira (Country Stone House - Mansion / Roberta Odoardi) is exactly what I always hope for in accommodations! On the one hand, I want things to feel Italian / local around me, but I am a spoiled American and want certain facilities to be as state-of-the-art as possible... so Casa Elvira's inclusion of modernized heating and bathroom / shower facilities was a very welcomed thing! (the shower has sufficient hot water for the best 'raise your body temperature' showers ever!)... The look of the place is exceptional as well... while you have very modern looking furnishings and some structural elements (stairs / windows / etc.), there are always glimpses of the structural core / history of the house - with nicely thought-out exposed stone on both the interior and exterior, and very nice ancient floor tiles that have a decidedly higher quality feel underfoot than today's approaches / materials, you are always conscious of staying in a portal to another time - and that is just what I am after... The placement of the house is a plus as well... Historically, I have stayed near the historic center of towns in Abruzzo... this house satisfies that other curiosity of what it is like to stay in a place that is located more in the countryside... BUT, with exceptionally easy access to San Valentino and all the great restaurants (and award winning gelato!) offered there... so, that aspect was found to be perfect as well... So, as regards the normally reviewed stuff... The kitchen was fully and well appointed... the beds comfortable and very nicely blanketed... the wireless was sufficiently fast for my office to torture me while I was there... the view from the terrace was excellent (although quite cold while I was there)... a parking space right at the front door... very nice and helpful neighbors... good recommendations for local food, sights, etc. Really, nothing at all to complain about and everything to compliment! An excellent place and if I hadn't purchased a house in Tocco da Casauria while I was over there, I would stay here whenever in the area!

Nice Home with a great view but unfortunately not more than that. The stairs are very uncomfortable and the house suffer from a strong smell of mold. the room with the arch was full with kitchen equipment of the neighbors and anyway it is separate from the house and therefore not very useful. Problems with the heating system were solved immediately by the owner, which was great, but i expect this things to be checked before the arrival. another problem was with the toilets downstairs that were flooded and smelly.

Response from Stefano:
Dear Yoav, we apologize for the inconvenient about the heating which luckily was solved immediately. Usually we check everything before arrival and we did this time too but the person that takes care of check in and out closed the gas...this is why it was not working, and she didn't realize about it. About the smell of mold this is quite strange to hear as I was personally there 5 days before arrival and I didn't smell anything strange and anyway it is quite difficult to have mod smell in a mountain house. We suppose this depended on the toilette that suddenly had a problem on the ground floor. We couldn't repair it immediately as you stayed only two nights and the person that could repair it could come only the day after your arrival and now it is solved. We really don't understand what you mean about the big room with the arch (Fondaco) which is full of kitchen equipment of the neighbors?? There is no kitchen there and we don't have any kind of kitchen equipment from the neighbors there , in the big rom there is a nice long table with chair and a sofa + an extra toilette. This space is loved and used and useful especially in the summer by our guests as it is connected to the garden and it naturally gives a wonderful fresh feeling when outside it is too warm (we can understand that it feels useful when outside it is cold, like the period you arrived, and you cannot really use the garden and make a barbecue, for example). And it is a common space to be used by the guests of the dependance as well which is in the garden. This is why it is not connected to the main house directly.

The welcome by your neighbours was friendly. The description of the house did not exactly mention the really steep stairs -more like a ladder. The house itself was as described, everything you needed, was there, just a vacuum cleaner was missing. But we were anyway not supposed to clean, although we did as good as we could. The environ is very very quiet, we as city dwellers enjoyed this very much. If you are looking for something completely relaxing this is the place to be. Thank you very much for having us.

Response from Stefano:
Grazie Sara per la tua recensione, purtroppo quando il caldo si fa veramente sentire, come nel periodo della vostra permanenza, è l'intera contrada ad avere problemi con il sistema delle fogne. Ma farò una segnalazione al comune.
