Debora's home is truly beautiful and unique! The open air living is a unique experience, especially given the property's surroundings. There were some things that were inconvenient about the property, for example: the road. I'm surprised this hasn't come up in reviews before...the road to get to the house was terrible. "The worst in town!" the cab drivers would say. We ended up having to rent a car for the last two days because we were so over biking in the giant pot holes and insane mud. It rained frequently while we were there and the amount of mud was insane! However, these are all part of the experience and part of being in a remote house in Costa Rica-- we did have a great time at this house! On our last day there, we went fishing on a boat and cooked the fish we caught at home later that night! We loved cooking and having a glass of wine overlooking the beautifully landscaped yard.
Deborah was out of the country when we arrived but her friend Nathalie was available to meet us and was very accomodating. She gave us the keys and showed us the place and then left us to get situated. It was a really unique place to stay whilst visiting Puerto Viejo. We rented bikes to get two and from the town or walked down Playa Negra which was only about 10-15 minutes. At night we took taxis two and from the rental. Overall we really enjoyed the space, it was cool, private, comfortable, and modern. I would definitely recommend to a friend looking to spend time in Puerto Viejo.
Our stay at Debora's place was GREAT! The house is in a very secluded area which is great if you are looking for a quiet vacation. The beach is a 5 minute walk from the house and is very quiet. We stayed for three days and only saw 2 other people on the beach. There aren't many restaurants or stores nearby but you can walk over to banana azul hotel to rent a bike for $6 a day. We highly recommend renting a bike because long walks in the heat are not the greatest! If you're looking to interact with more people and have a wider selection of restaurants, you can walk about 30min along the beach or bike 10-15mjn to the nearest beach towns. Finally, if you do plan to travel at night be sure to bring a flashlight! It'll come in handy.
We had a wonderful stay at Debora 's house in playa negra. We rented bikes to go to town and other beaches, had yoga classes near by and were overwhelmed by the garden and beauty, and of course cute Mimi the cat.
Great experience! Beautiful property, the best cat, modern architecture hats rare in that region.
This was by far our best place in Costa Rica! May be a little biased because we got engaged here, but it was the perfect setting!
Love puerto viejo and all it has to offer, great food, people and amazing beaches. Lots to do and see, even just exploring on your own (recommended). Koki Beach was the best meal we ever had, may be because it was also my birthday! Big weekend and the best place to do it.
Debora was a great host and has a beautiful place, love the privacy.
Debora's place was the perfect respite and decompression location for us! The house is simple and lovely. Throwing the doors open each morning to let the outside in was amazing, though doing so the first night to sleep was ill-advised without mosquito spray!! The town of Puerto Viejo is a typical party beach town, so it was nice to be a distance from there. The walk along the beach to town was less than 20 minutes, and lovely both day and night!
We had been warned about the howling monkeys and birds, which were lovely and did not wake us for long....and were a lovely reminder of the fact that we were living in the forest!
We did not meet Debora, as she was out of town, but her friends patiently waited for us as our trip to the south coast from San Jose took two hours longer than anticipated! The drive is long, and if there is an accident it is a challenge, as the road is two-laned and through the forest, but once at the house, all that falls away!
I would definitely stay at Debora's place again!
