Lennie and Howie were the best!! Loved their place - so comfortable, clean and truly a B&B! I can't say enough about their hospitality - our conversations bounced from gardening to cooking, college to retirement, books to movies. The decor was so fun and personal, artsy yet cozy. Can't thank you enough for opening your home and sharing your thoughts and adventures!! Take care of Oogie and Eddie :) Please come visit
Lenny and Howie welcomed us as old friends would have. They are terrific hosts at the core and as first time AirBnB users it was very encouraging for my girlfriend and I to experience such a warm and caring demeanor for our Valentines Day getaway. The private bed and bath were more than comfortable, but we seemed to rather visit with the extraordinarily interesting couple during our down time. Lenny was very helpful in assisting with plans for dinner, movie, and wine tasting and tour for our ever special 2015 Valentines Day. We loved our stay at the Steel's and wouldnt hesitate to revisit the beautiful countryside for a hiking excursion in the Spring.
Helene has been absolutely wonderful to work with. We were planning to get away and stay at her place for a couple of days. Unfortunately, my mom got sick and I had to drop everything and go see her. I got in touch with Helene and explained my situation. Wanted to know if we could possibly reschedule. She was more than gracious. Let me know not to worry, we would have a credit and could reschedule a time to stay there any time. I was not expecting this because it was a last minute cancellation. It really was a blessing. Now, it's nice to know that after I take care of my mom, we will be able to get away for a couple of days and stay there. Really looking forward to it!!!!
Staying with Lennie & Howie is like staying with interesting friends who are warm, welcoming, and good cooks. Their eclectic home is a former country school house. Your private room and bath are comfortable (though Blanche found the bed a bit soft).
Ask for the optional dinner and the stories will flow like wine. Howie owned four successful restaurants. Ask Lennie about the photo Marlon Brando autographed for her, or about her retro Palisades Amusement Park poster. Share your stories, too!
Whether you plan to spend time in the area or are just passing through (less than 2 hours to NYC), Not Your Grandma's B&B is a great experience!
This was our first AirBnB experience and our stay at Lenny and Howie's set the standards high! They served us DELICIOUS warm cookies from the oven as soon as we arrived and made us feel so welcome and comfortable as soon as we met them. If you're looking for great conversation, a cozy - yet funky- atmosphere, a beautiful garden tucked right between the Poconos and Leigh Valley- this is the place! The best part is that Lenny and Howie got involved with AirBnB simply to meet interesting people here and there. It sounds like it's a way for them to travel without traveling and listening to them talk about it made my husband and I want to open an AirBnB place when we retire (one day!) They are genuine folks and although we didn't spend a ton of time with them, they felt like family/good friends pretty much immediately - which was great because (I'll admit it), we were nervous about that whole staying-in-a-stranger's home idea! My husband and I had a packed schedule of visiting friends in New Jersey and hiking in PA, and looking back, we wish we reserved more time to simply hang out at the BnB! Lenny and Howie offered several suggestions for things to do in the area. We happened upon the location, but it's really ideal for visiting the Poconos and the Leigh Valley or Jersey - there's farms (there was a tour of area farms the weekend we visited), several wineries, antique stores, and the Appalachian Trail is just 10 minutes away. The breakfast was outstanding- bacon/hash potato and pancakes with real Vermont maple syrup and pear sauce made w/ pears from their front yard - a real, homemade luxury. We hope to be back with our two-year-old son!
Helene & Howie couldn't have been more warm & gracious. This is a beautiful country home in eastern Pennsylvania. Our room was beautifully appointed and quite spacious. All the amenities you could want were offered. A repeat visit is definitely called for.
