Luxurious, Remodeled & Quiet Oasis

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Haight Street, San Francisco, CA 94117, United States

The Space

Beautifully remodeled home in a hot, central location. Ground floor apartment with a wonderful layout featuring one bedroom, one bath, full kitchen with dining nook, and study nook. Living room overlooks garden*. The apartment is set in the back of the house and unlike other San Francisco properties, is very quiet. No complaining about city noise disturbing your sleep here! The perfect home base for your adventures in San Francisco.

*While our garden is free for the exclusive use of our guests, it is slated for a redesign and may not match the photos above.*

This area is called the Lower Haight and our house lies right between the Lower Haight and the Haight Ashbury neighborhoods. We are also on the up-and-coming, very hot (sizzle) Divisadero corridor. This area is extremely central and about 10 minutes to almost everywhere in SF!

Airbnb describes the Lower Haight as follows:

“The Lower Haight is an artsy little niche below Haight-Ashbury and shares a similar eclectic character, but its bars and restaurants offer a more intimate (and less abrasive) vibe. Although it still sports trendy hotspots with slightly seedy allures, they feel decidedly less traversed than its counterpart's untamed establishments. Lower Haight's cool nonchalance and convenient location make it a choice destination for casual entertainment, day and night.”

This neighborhood is also right next to the Castro and a stone's throw to hipster Mission neighborhood or Golden Gate Park. This home is in the middle of four parks (Duboce, Buena Vista, Panhandle, and the famous Alamo Square - where you can see the "Painted Ladies" - otherwise known as the "Full House Houses").

The Lower Haight is centrally located and 10 minutes to every part of SF by walking or public transportation. Our house is located on several MUNI lines including

* N-Judah, three blocks away. Electric car/train that takes you to Union Square/downtown/Financial district, Embarcadero or to Cole Valley, the Sunset and Ocean Beach. This is generally the fastest way to get to downtown.
* MUNI 6, less than a block away in front of the apartment on Haight (Union Square, downtown/the Financial district, the Embarcadero)
* MUNI 71, less than a block away in front of the apartment on Haight (downtown/the Financial district)
* MUNI 24, one block away on Divisadero (the Castro District and Noe Valley)
* MUNI 22, three blocks away on Fillmore (the Marina District, Noe Valley, the Mission District)
* MUNI 21, four blocks away on Hayes (Union Square, downtown/the Financial district, the Embarcadero)

Like most of San Francisco, street parking is difficult to get, especially after 5/6 pm. Parking is easier on the weekends. We are in a residential permit area (although there is metered parking just a couple of blocks away). Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind about parking in our area:

**Two hour parking limit without a permit, enforced Monday-Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm.
** Always remember to curb your tires on hills - we've seen several cars ticketed for failing to do this!
**In permit areas you must move your vehicle after the posted time limit (typically 1 to 2 hours) if you don't have a permit. The law requires you to move one block away or at least one-tenth (1/10) of a mile—about 500 feet. Do not drive around and then park in the same block, or you can be ticketed!

We absolutely DO NOT recommend renting a car. It's very easy to get around San Francisco without a car. However, if you're planning to go to Wine Country, down the coast, or off to see the giant Redwoods, you will need a car.

There is paid parking garage two blocks from our apartment. It's at the CPMC Hospital, Davies Campus. The rate is $4/hr or $30 a day.

This home accommodates up to 4 travelers. There's a luxurious queen size bed in the bedroom and a true-queen pull-out sofa in the living room. This top of the line pull-out features comfort foam - no bars or springs to worry about here! No sloppy sheets here either! We have 100% GOTS certified organic combed cotton sheets specifically tailored to the dimensions of the sleeper bed for a quality night's sleep.

There's a 43" television with Apple TV - making it easy to airplay movies you already have on your devices. Otherwise, we have a dedicated Netflix account where you can stream some of your favorites.

  • LJ's apartment was perfect for my family of four. We have two small kids and easily fit into the space. We enjoyed the back yard...and the Apple TV :) The coffee and treats left for us were also a very nice touch. Overall, very comfortable stay. In a great location Can't wait to come back!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our short but fabulous stay in Lj's beautiful apartment that was everything promised. The booking procedure was thorough, reactive and with clear instructions for arrival. Haight Street is lovely with great restaurants and cafes close by. We loved Memphis Minnie's, Tartine at 600 Guerrero and the sensational Delfina close to Tartine. We'll be back for a longer stay. Thankyou for sharing your beautiful apartment with us.

  • I have stayed 10 days at LJ place on a business trip and it was a fantastic stay.
It took me about 24 hours of transit to arrive at LJ apartment and stepping into the apartment I instantly felt at home. It was just like stepping back to my home place, where everything was crystal clean and in perfect organization and operating condition.
Knowing I will be spending here many hours it was a wonderful feeling. The bathroom fully stocked with shampoo, body and hand soap, 4 set of towels feeling completely new and did I say perfectly clean ?
I always prefer to cook my own meals and the kitchen was superbly equipped with all you can ever ask including pans and pots, micro and oven and gas stove, wine glasses and paper towels.
Just to provide again an insight on the level of details and care – the dishwasher was waiting with a set of completely new washing capsules bag, new hand soap and dish soap.
A welcome kit was waiting for me with chocolate and fresh grounded coffee.
During the 10 days I kept again and again thinking – hey this is exactly the way I would set up my own apartment if I would have leaved here.
Just to wrap things up, internet was perfect and TV was equipped with Apple TV and Netflix, didn’t really need more (finished the house of Cards season 2).

A word about location. Originally I was a bit concerned since I knew my business is in the area of Union square and being in Haight is a bit off. But my decision proved to be excellent.
The apartment is in a perfectly central location. 5 minutes’ walk to Duboce Park and you have the subway N which takes you in 15min to Union square and the Wharf. Just across the apartment a bus stop and a block up the road another one.
In 2 days I found myself traveling freely with no concerns to any part of San Francisco – golden gate park, lands’ end, pier 39, down town etc. – all in ease and comfort. I enjoyed these travels immensely.
Moreover, across the street “the grind” was a treat for morning or evening espresso, a block down the road to have your laundry made, walking 4 blocks on Divisadero to Bi-Rite and you are in a “heaven” for food groceries. Walk another block to “The mill” for the best baked bread.
And many more attractions are clearly indicated in the manual you have in the apartment.

Last but not least, going up the road 3 blocks and you enter the paradise of “Buena vista Park” – with fantastic views of all the bay and golden gate. It’s a must local attraction if you stay at the apartment.
As you can see, I can go on.
LJ place is really a unique experience.

  • My girlfriend and I lived in San Francisco for about 13 years cumulatively before moving out, so SF is home for us. On our last visit we had a very good idea what we wanted - something quiet, walkable, well connected with the rest of the city, and in a neighborhood with a lot of character. LJ's place fit the bill perfectly. We were very happy living there for about 8 days. It's clean, very well furnished and the garden in the back is a great place to sit and have your morning coffee. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to meet LJ in person (she lives in the unit above), but everything was perfectly planned and we loved our stay there. Thank you for having us live in your home and being a great host!

  • I had a great stay at LJ's place -- spacious apartment, amazing location and really communicative host!

  • We enjoyed our stay at LJ's. Super convinient to everything - supermarkets right around the corner, buses across the street that takes you right into the heart of the city, walking distance to some excellent restaurants like NOPA and Nopalito. The place is well equipped, super wifi connection, apple tv and no big hills to conquer to get back "home" during your stay! :)

  • Background- couple in 30's in San Francisco for 2 weeks and using this site for the first time for 7 nights before moving to hotel for remaining nights.

Communication with LJ was swift and she replied with suggestions such as car hire options and other things locally. LJ also has Andrew assisting with the rental. He met us on arrival and was a great help, he also lived locally so this was a real help. The welcome package was greatly appreciated and he kept in touch with us over the retail period.

The house was as described and was very clean. Clean linen, towels, spare pillows made it a very pleasurable stay. There are local boutique food shops on Haight street and a Safeway supermarket nearby where we did a lot of our shopping. At first the location is a bit of getting used to, some colourful characters and interesting smells a few blocks away in the haight and ashbury district but you only have to walk one street and it is totally opposite, large houses, dog parks, etc. we walked everywhere, no need to hire car, NJuadah bus/tram was perfect to go to the city and this stop was only a few minutes walk.
Kitchen was great, all appliances and great to use for home cooked meals. No TV but net flix was great. Never got to meet LJ who lives upstairs but Andrew is a great resource. Bed was not to my liking but this is something that will differ with everyone. Short walk to the painted ladies, Duboce park is also nearby and there are lots of shops around the corner in case you have forgotten anything. A great stay, would recommend it to anyone. Was $55 from airport to her place.

Thank you so much for the thorough review! If you have any suggestions on how we can make the bed more comfortable, we'd love to hear them! You were a wonderful guest and we'd love to host you again!

  • Highly recommendable!! In every way. We had a fantastic time at this cosy, gorgeous apartment. Let me list the ways....
    1. Everything in the apartment is crystal clean, brand new and supremely functional. The sofa bed is the most comfortable one I have ever slept on ( I noted the brand to buy one at home). It is one of those places where one thinks if only my life/house was so simple, functional, comfortable and well designed at home. I could stay forever in short.
    2. It has a gorgeous garden/courtyard so you don't feel like you are in an apartment at all. Sun streams in the windows. Very quiet, with no street or neighbor noise whatsoever.
    3. Perfectly located. Very convenient bus stops just outside the door that take you straight into the city in 10 minutes. Groovy shops and cafes on the very same street as the apartment. A lovely atmospheric neighbourhood.
    4. Wonderful management of the apartment, Andrew was the most helpful person ever in our stay. My flights were cancelled leaving us stranded for two days, he went out of his way to help us. Nothing was too much trouble. His help to us in a crisis was beyond the pale, not expected but oh so appreciated.
    5. The apartment is roomy and light. Fantastic cookware etc, we cooked a lot of our meals here.
    6. Wonderful , endless hot water and great heating.
    Fantastic in short.

I am dreaming up schemes to come back here on another holiday already.

  • A beautifully appointed and decorated one bedroom garden floor apt. My friend and I found it wonderfully spacious and well equipped for our 4 day stay.
Everything was neat and organized, including the keys with one set in a lockbox outside so you don't ever have to get locked out!
Lovely neighborhood, and convenient to restaurants and food stores.
One caveat, if you like to open a window, but are concerned about security, know that you are on the ground level of a fenced in but not alarmed garden. The garden by the way is charming and has lemon and orange trees with fruit that is delicious!
I would stay there again for sure.
