Cheaper than a hotel, much bigger and more comfortable than a hostel. Spacious apartment with 1 bedroom and 2 additional rooms right at the center of Sultanahmet very close to Hagia Sophia. This is one of the four units we rent at this location, it's conveniently located 200yards away from the Sultanahmet, within walking distance from all major museums, Topkapi Palace, the Underground Cistern, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar.
A very big living room is split into two comfortably furnished rooms with (email hidden)ere is a separate kitchen with stove and a mini fridge, as well as a bath and a shower. Living room has digital TV and the sleeper sofa can accomodate a third additional person here. It has central heating and hot water. Living room and bedroom are joint and air conditioned. We also offer:
Complimentary laptop + mobile Internet adapter
Complimentary cell phone with prepaid local line
Loaner bicycle at no cost
We offer additional cleaning services. For $30 all towels and bedsheets will be replaced.
We charge $30 per person per night after 2 people, and maximum occupancy is capped by 4 people including children. Smoking is allowed in the balcony. We give a local cell phone with a prepaid line for communication. You can ask all kinds of questions over SMS, and we do our best to guide you through the city 7/24.
As long as the next guest is not arriving within 4 hours, you can check out late and keep your luggage in the room. Otherwise check out is 12:00 and check in is at 14:00.
Overall, we had a very good time at Sultanahmet Gardens. Communication with Taner and his mother was very easy and straightforward.
The pictures of the apartment are accurate, and it is off the right size for a couple. The kitchen supplies are a bit limited, but there are enough of them to do simple cooking for two people.
The bathroom layout is a bit baroque at first, but you get used to it after a while: the shower is separated from the toilets by a curtain, and the shower water evacuates through a hole placed beneath the toilets, which means that the floor is necessarily wet after a shower.
Going to the main touristic sites of Istanbul is a 10 to 15 minutes walk. From there, it is also easy to hop in a tramway to get to the "lively" part of Istanbul (near İstiklal avenue) where one will find many restaurants, pubs, and shopping centers. There are more restaurants there than in the quieter touristic area around the apartment. A taxi back home cost us approximately 8€.
The same tramway goes to Kabataş, where we went on a boat to travel the Bosphorus and go to the Asian side of Istanbul.
Last but not least, the bed is very comfortable, the WiFi works very well, and having a free phone to call local businesses saved us roaming costs.
We were made to feel very welcome by Taner's mother, and she continued to help us during our stay whenever we had any queries. The apartment although not luxurious was ideal for us, especially being so conveniently sited in Sultanahmet and only a short walk from the Blue Mosque and other tourist sites. We found the shower arrangement in the bathroom a little unusual but in fact it worked fine once we had got used to it.
The neighbourhood felt very safe, and we visited several good local restaurants , mostly ones recommended by TripAdvisor.
The best thing about staying here was the friendliness of Taner's mother, especially when we couldn't use the frontdoor key properly!
The apartment was roomy, and very close – five minutes walk – to key attractions and transport. We only saw the host – Taner’s mother – when we arrived and by chance one other time during our week there. She was welcoming and very helpful with maps and suggestions of what to do. The notes left by the owners were also helpful with directions of where to shop, good eating places etc. We found the location interesting and lively. The accommodation itself was adequate – comfortable bed, small kitchen, sitting room with TV – though rather dark being without external windows except on a narrow verandah, not a particularly welcoming place after a busy day. The bathroom took some getting used to, with an awkwardly placed shower, and a smelly toilet … it could definitely do with renovation.
Great location! It is an older but updated apartment, in keeping with an older neighborhood. Not much light. Very convenient to walk to almost all touristy places in older Istanbul. Tram is also not far and the Bosphorus is around the corner. The hostess is very helpful. Many shops and restaurants nearby. Lot of cats in the neighborhood! We had a great time overall.
Great place to stay. Taner's mother made check-in/out very simple and convenient. The apartment is spacious and clean, exactly as described. Location was perfect - a 5-10 minute walk to famous sites. I came into Istanbul from Ataturk airport using the metro system (~1 hour to the Sultanahmet stop), and it was an easy walk to the apartment from there once you get familiar with the streets. Highly recommend this apartment - it was perfect!
