Adventurous Lava Rock Hale is a very special place. Diana was a super lovely host!!!!there was all you can need for your vacation and the place is magic, really in touch with nature, outside there were two fantastic horses and in the night it was so cool to ear pigs that come near the gate!!!I really recommend it!!! mahalo!!!!
The place is magical and made with lots of taste. Everything has been thought for feeling just at home.
The Lava Rock Hale is amazing! It is as advertised and even better than we expected. Eric and Diane are wonderful people and made us feel right at home. Very welcoming but respected our privacy. Basics are provided (i.e. towels, bedding, cookware) and there were a few bonuses like snorkel gear and pantry essentials (coffee, tea, etc). The Kapoho tide pools (great snorkeling) along with a really nice hot spring, are just a few minutes down the road. However, to get to most other areas of interest, you should expect a decent drive. The location is rather secluded, but that is what we wanted, so for the right person with the right expectations, it's perfect. The bathroom was much nicer than expected and the outdoor shower was really great. We really enjoyed sitting outside at night, looking up at the stars. On a clear night, it looks absolutely amazing. I wish we could have stayed longer!
This place is fantastic! Eric and Diane have a beautiful property sand you can really see how much hard work they put into creating such a unique and beautiful place to stay! Taking a shower outside under the stars and falling asleep to the sweet sounds of tree frogs was our favorite part. It can definitely get warm in the hale during the day, but cools off nicely at night. Everything worked wonderfully for us while we were there and it was such a fun spot! We weren't huge fans of downtown Pahoa itself, although we did get some good Thai food! But the location of the hale is otherwise great and with perfect access to the most amazing tide pools! Hilo and Volcanoes National Park are also quick drives away. Overall, a truly wonderful stay and we hope to get back there someday!
Fantastic place near Pahoa! This place has the eco-friendly/natural theme going for it - it's mostly solar powdered. The shower and bathroom are separate outside, and both are very nice. The location was beautiful - surrounded by papaya trees and lush rainforest, it was amazing. The hosts were both very friendly - they greeted my boyfriend and I upon arrival and showed us around. Loved the geckos outside of the screens that appeared at night, not so much a fan of the geckos that found their way inside the house, but they're harmless and pretty cute so I deemed it an interesting experience. All in all, would definitely recommend!
The Lava Rock Hale is true paradise! An incredibly beautiful landscape everywhere you look with the sounds of nature surrounding you, along with their beautiful horses on the property too! Eric and Diane were so welcoming upon our arrival for our two night stay as part of our honeymoon on the islands. The experience was like no other. So unique and memorable. The outside shower with the view of the stars above is unforgettable. Thank you for creating such a beautiful place and sharing it with the world!

We were greeted like old friends when we arrived. Eric and Diane. Everything was beautifully laid out and had everything we needed with additional bits like snorkels and masks for us to borrow. This is a must if you visit, go to the tide pools (2 miles) you don't even have to swim just put your head in the water and the fish are all around you. The location is idyllic and surrounded by greenery, gentle horses in the next field and chirruping birds in the trees. To explore the
Volcano area and waterfalls and smoke lung I recommend a longer stay. We were there 6 days and that was perfect. We would definitely recommend this venue and our hosts to anyone considering this option for their visit to Big Island. :)
