This place is truly a tucked away gem. At first it seemed like it was waaay off the beaten path, but Pahoa village is quite close for groceries or a coffee if you choose. It's also a great location for checking out the Kapaho tidal pools and the current lava flow at Volcanoes. We loved experiencing this side of the island in a very genuine fashion; we were surrounded by fruit trees and tropical wildlife! I will suggest that light sleepers bring earplugs while they acclimate to the sounds of the frogs at night, just in case you're not used to it. Oh, and as others have said, the outdoor shower is AMAZING. Taking a shower under the stars is such a cool experience.

Super nice place for couples. Unless you are serious cyclists with serious bicycles on hand, we suggest a vehicle. We did not want to leave, two nights wasn't enough for us.

This place is a complete gem! We felt like we were in our own beautiful world. It is secluded, in the rain forrest, surrounded by the most amazing landscape. The road it a tiny bit rough to get there, but I suppose most cars can make it. The hale had everything we needed, including towels for the beach and for the wondrous out door shower. It's totally private and adorable. I loved the artwork and craftsmanship of the house. You definitely feel the aloha. Our hosts were lovely. If we ever find ourselves on the big island again we would love to stay here.

The hale was amazing. I slept better than I have in a long time while staying there with a light breeze and frogs that sang me to sleep. The view of the stars is breath taking, the outdoor shower is spacious, and the land is beautiful. I'm only sad I didn't book sooner so that I could have stayed longer.

Our stay at the lava rock hale was the highlight of our trip. I think one of the best things about Air bnb is that you get to stay places where they haven't built hotels and resorts. Staying at the Lava Rock Hale you get a glimpse into the private paradises down Hawaii's back roads. It is much more than a place to just sleep at night, it is an enjoyable place to relax too. The house itself is a great design and they have thought of everything that you might need. I would highly recommend it and hope to return!

This place is so beautiful. So much nature surrounding you, and super peaceful. The outdoor shower is neat! Everything was comfortable and well equipped with what we needed. You will be in for a treat if you pick this special place.

I am a carpenter/painter, enjoy working outdoors. My Wife is an artist and massage therapist. We both love animals.
