Five minutes from great snorkeling in the Vacationland tide pools, ten minutes to the geothermal hotponds and a ten minute bike ride to the lovely mango lined Waa Waa road. • Nous avons passé un excellent séjour dans cette petite yourte qui a vraiment beaucoup de charme. L'expérience de la douche en extérieur est magique. La propriété est pleine de surprises à découvrir et nos deux hôtes ont été très accueillants et attentionnés.

  • Lava Rock Hale is a very unique home - it's the closest thing to living in the great outdoors but with all the modern amenities (which are completely solar powered btw). A great choice for those who wish to be close to nature but still have access to a flushable toilet and a warm shower. The hale is in a relatively secluded, off-the-grid area-- perfect for those looking for an escape-- but still close enough to Pahoa, a small town with plenty of food options (about a 10-15 min drive away) and the tidepools in Kapoho (also about a 10-15 min drive away). Only thing I would note is that it does rain quite a bit in this part of the Big Island and there is no A/C here. The stone hale keeps the heat out, but be prepared for some moisture. Diane was a lovely host and made us feel so welcomed. Would absolutely recommend this place for those with an adventurous spirit!

  • Eric and Diane were wonderful hosts, and their Lava Rock Hale was beautiful! Very cool space and comfortable bed, right down the street from awesome snorkeling and a 'warm' pond. Really warm people and a lovely place to stay. Hope to be back some day :)!

  • The Lava Rock Hale is probably the coolest place I've ever stayed. It's all solar powered, even the outdoor shower, which we particularly enjoyed. The land is vast with avocado trees and guava trees galore. It's a bit off the beaten path, a bit hard to find, but totally worth being a few miles out of the way. One word of caution, though, it does rain a lot on this part of the island so be aware of that. If we are back on the Big Island one day we are definitely staying here again!

  • I stayed with Eric and Diane at the Lava Rock Hale twice in Feb. and March, for a total of a month, with my new husband for our honeymoon. We were looking for some place that would be a good homebase for our time in HI and would unique, memorable, and an adventure. We couldn't have picked a more perfect spot! We loved staying there. Eric and Diane were really sweet and helpful, and the house is so pretty! It looks just like the pictures, a little slice of heaven. We loved the heated outdoor shower and the flush toilet outhouse. You got the feeling of living "rustic" without any of the downsides! We felt right at home and were sad to leave. I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a place that's outside of the norm, but is filled with an immense amout of creativity, beauty, and love.

  • This place is simply amazing. Yes it is tricky to find in the dark so arrive in the daylight but it really is the meaning of a hidden gem.

There's loads of space, all the facilities you could need and plenty of nature. The outdoor shower is a brilliant too.

Great hosts who have built this as a six year long labour of love and it shows in the little touches.

If you want a great spot to explore the volcanoes national park and lava flows from or just hide away from it all book this. Now.

  • This place is love manifested. And an engineering feat to boot. Diane and Eric are such friendly loving people and so so hospitable. The lava yurt is wonderful the bed is very comfortable. We spent most of our time there on a lazy day partly because it was such a treat just to be there. Thank you to the hosts

  • Diane and Eric are gracious hosts. Their jungle Lava Hale is unique and endearing. Even in inclement weather, they made it a pleasurable place to be and even bought shades when the storm got to rough. Diane is an amazing artist while Eric is handy and resourceful. Together they make a warm and unforgettable experience. Mahalo, Eric and Diane.

  • A beautifully and creatively handcrafted accommodation.
Eric and Diane were wonderful hosts,
and have created a tropical paradise from a piece of jungle, with tropical trees and flowers .The lava hut has an open, airy feel with an ambience of being outdoors, but has all the comforts that can be provided with an off grid home.

  • Wow! This place was beautiful! The pictures of this place on airbnb were beautiful but they don't do it justus!

We stayed for five nights and really loved our stay at this little oasis. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Eric and Diane, they have us a tour of their grounds and showed us how to use everything. Their whole property is off the grid and is really well done. They use solar for power and hot water, we never ran out of hot water or power the five days we stayed there, even though we had a few days of rain. There are lots of mature fruit trees and we had fresh avocado coconut and star fruit while we were there.

It was a wonderful stay and we would do it again in a heart beat!

    Chris and Kim.
