The Space

This simple and very comfortable vintage Hawaiian home is located on three-quarters of an acre of oceanfront property near the end of Anini Road, and has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. There's not another property like it! Only two homes beyond this one. Very few cars venture to this beautiful protected sandy beach on Hawaii's longest reef. If simplicity and serenity are your goal, you've found the ideal spot. Many vacationers return year after year to enjoy this oft revisited vacation rental.

Renown for it's fishing and snorkeling, the water on one side of the beach is only four feet deep and slowly cascades to over a 100-foot depth on the other side. This beach is one of the safest and most protected along the North Shore of the island. A fringed reef runs the entire length of beach and is Hawaii's longest reef. Windsurfing abounds, but it's great for the kids as well. Managed by All Kauai Real Estate. VR-1912.

  • My husband and I came to Kauai a few days early to a weeklong family reunion and wanted somewhere off the beaten path (we live in an Oregon Coast tourist town). Anini Kama'aina Hale was exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, at the end of a dirt road, wonderful beach and an authentic Kauai beach house. Anini beach is the perfect spot to get into the groove and works well as a jumping off spot to other north shore locales.

While we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Sandy in person, she was very helpful via email and phone. This was my first airbnb rental experience and it went without a hitch.

If you're looking something different than the typical Kauai condo this is the one for you!

  • Beautiful, well equipped beach cottage just steps from the water at Anini beach. Big grassy lawn. Perfect for families. We stayed with our 1 year old daughter and loved it. We would go back tomorrow! I would highly recommend!

  • We loved the back to the good days-country house just in front of the Anini beach, our most favorite beach in Kauai! For sure, the location is perfect for those who love to chill out or enjoy with beach.
Not too fancy, but good enough and with wonderful view.

Sandy always gave me a quick response and kind information for our convenience.

We definitely would come back to Anini!!!!!

  • This place was so very comfortable and really really clean. Such a nice way to experience the island and you CAN absolutely hear the pounding surf at night, its very quiet and private. It would be my number one place to rent again upon a return to the island.

  • Very sweet old place. Great location, clean and the feeling of time past. Wish I knew more about the history!
    Mahalo Sandy!

    Response from Sandy:

The property has been in the same family for decades. In fact, the deed is so old that it extends the property into ocean (no longer theirs, of course). They used it as a week-end and summer home (they lived in Lihue and still own the house there). The present house was built after the last tsunami destroyed the original home, thus the block half walls. It was built in the '50s. The owners are a family of doctors. The first one on the islands was a doctor on Kalaupapa (the leper colony on Moloka`i). The present owner is the state pathologist, and his father was one of the first to practice on Kaua`i. I hope that gives you some history.

About
I love to dance, read, and walk the beach with our dogs. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities. Thailand is fascinating and New Zealand beautiful. Adored Paris. Trying to decide on my next exotic destination. Not exotic, but very nice, Traverse City Michigan, this summer to visit family, with a few days at Mackinac Island--another of my favorite places. But my very favorite is right here where I live. In 1991 I moved to Kauai and became a real estate broker and property manager, at the same time my friend Mark and I managed a couple B&Bs, and we now own Kalalau B&B. Last year he married Christine who moved here from Germany. We share running the B&B, and we all love living in Kauai, and especially on the North Shore. Mark is an artist and chef, and Christine is a retired actuary, who is artistic, musical, and many talented. She and I perform hula whenever we get a chance, quite often at Tahiti Nui on Wednesdays in Hanalei. When you stay with us we can tell you more, but we'd rather hear about you. I recently became licensed to perform weddings in the state of Hawaii, when it became imminent that gay marriages would be made legal. I am perhaps the only avowed atheist wedding officiant on Kaua`i. More than you wanted to know about me. I attended University of Michigan after graduating and soon after that went to work for the Teamsters Union in Detroit, and from there to the legal firm that handled most of the large trucking companies. After a couple years, I moved to New York City where I was hired as executive assistant to the president and executive vice president of two huge corporations in their Wall Street Offices. From there I went to work for Norman Mailer and worked for him for many years as research assistant, confidante, copy editor, and secretary (never wife or lover) both in New York City and Provincetown, MA. Spent a year or so as a hippie traveling around the country with a flower in my hair. Then I married and moved to Stowe, Vermont, for nearly 20 years, where I skied and sailed for recreation. Then here.
