Dar Dauia is a 200+ year old small family house located in the heart of Chefchaouen’s Old Medina. Like the other traditional houses, its structure is a labyrinth limited to the mountain itself which forces a compacted and irregular construction as a honeycomb in a fascinating architectural swarm.

The space

Today, Dar Dauia is a house with all the necessary comfort in an archaic skeleton. We don’t want anyone to be disappointed during their stay in our house, so there are some indications:

The kitchen is Private and only for the exclusive use of the Hosts.

We have heaters and fans but NO Air Conditioning in the bed rooms. The traditional construction of rock and adobe linked to the mountain with walls of more than 20 cm. thick, allows us to achieve a perfect and natural insulation during winter and summer.

Two of our bedrooms do not have exterior windows. To the aforementioned climatological reasons we must add sound reasons; the proximity to the neighbors and mosques isolates these “cave rooms” from street noise, calls to prayer (the first one is at dawn), neighborhood talk and a long etc. ... and if all this overwhelming logic does not convince you, there are cultural reasons… remember that the bedroom is a place to disconnect and rest and that is only possible by leaving out anything that distracts us from such need.

The house is in the high part of the center of the Medina and you have to climb 63 steps to reach it, but the effort is rewarded with spectacular views of the Medina, the town, the mountains and a huge and exciting sky.

The space is distributed as follows:
Ground Floor (exclusively for guests) it has 1 living room, 3 rooms and 1 bathroom to share.
First Floor: Common terrace. Host’s Private Bedroom and Private kitchen
Second Floor: Common solarium. Host’s Private Studio

Ground floor / guest area
There is a fireplace in the living room, a kettle corner with water and teas and some table games and books.

The Bathroom is divided in two. The W.C. (toilet) in one room and the Shower and Lavatory in a separate room. Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, after-shave, hair dryer, heater, towels and a thermostatic shower are all provided.

Room #1 has 2 Double beds for 4 people.
Room #2 has 1 Queen Size bed for 2 people
Room # 3 has 1 double bed for 2 people

Other things to note

Chefchaouen deserves a couple of days stay so you can literally get lost in its unique streets and many shops.
It is also very interesting to devote another day visiting Akchour at the Talassemtane National Park, (only a 45 minute drive) to enjoy nature at its purest state… a lasting memory for children and adults.
For the more adventurous, there are trekking routes across the mountains which can last from 1 to 5 days. Guides and lodges available in situ.

Staying with Nieves and Ricardo was a bright spot on our trip to Morocco. You couldn't ask for better hosts. They took great pains to acclimate us to the area, and fed us the most delicious homemade things!

LOVED staying with Ricardo and Nieves. It felt more like visiting old friends than staying in an AirBnB. Super cool location tucked high up in the medina. Although centrally located it was quiet. Rooms are beautifully decorated--everywhere you look your eye catches something intriquing to look at. Very clean and Nieves has thought of everything one might need (dishes, hair dryer, cold water waiting in mini fridge). Ricardo met our taxi and walked us up. Do not worry about the steps you can pay a small fee to a porter to carry your suitcases. They both helped arrange some cool day trips with amazing guides. Ricardo and Nieves made our trip to Chefchaouen very special.

Nieves and Ricardo were the most gracious and kind hosts. Ricardo really went above and beyond with helping me plan out my transportation in Morocco in cities outside of his own and I greatly appreciated his generosity. They are lovely conversationalists and we felt perfectly at home at their beautifully decorated abode. My friend fell pretty ill during our stay and both Ricardo and Nieves took such good care of her. Nieves even packed us a delicious breakfast on the go in such a motherly gesture because we were checking out much earlier than the normal breakfast time. They were availible whenever we needed them and their breakfasts were delicious. I highly recommend their place for a stay if you're in Chefchaouen.

We are a Spanish couple who, after travelling the world over, decided to live a simple life in this small Moroccan town. We feel grateful to be able to enjoy this simplicity and when we`ve had enough, we jump on a plane and fly to New York, Tokyo, Delhi, Lima or another crowded place. We have friends all over the world and now, through Airbnb, we can meet more people without leaving our home.
