Interaction with Guests
The hosts are multilingual and live upstairs, so the attention is personalized and uninterrupted.
In this varied neighborhood, native Chaunís , Riffians, Moroccans from Fez and Tangier, and foreigners like us, live in perfect harmony in a friendly and safe environment .
The houses and shops are always open; children play in the streets, artisans show their workshops, mountain women display their products (all organic) ...
Chefchaouen’s vibrant Medina has preserved its authenticity and it is becoming one of the most visited not only by foreigners but by the same Moroccans who see it as a jewel of their culture and their idiosyncrasies.
Cars are not allowed in the Medina.
If coming by car we will tell you where to leave it.
If coming by bus it is best you take a petit-taxi to the Medina as the bus station is on the bottom of the valley.
Other Things to Note
Chefchaouen deserves a couple of days stay so you can literally get lost in its unique streets and many shops.
It is also very interesting to devote another day visiting Akchour at the Talassemtane National Park, (only a 45 minute drive) to enjoy nature at its purest state… a lasting memory for children and adults.
For the more adventurous, there are trekking routes across the mountains which can last from 1 to 5 days. Guides and lodges available in situ.

Chaouen was the last city that my friend and I visited on our 11 days trip in Morocco, and we can easily say that it is our favourite! Our experience in Chaouen started very well, the moment we met our host, Ricardo. A very well-spoken, polite and very helpful man. Prior to the trip, we had a few questions on getting to Chaouen from Fes, and Ricardo was very prompt and detailed in his replies. Through our communication with Ricardo, we feel that he genuinely cares and is very concerned that you are safe and that you know your way back to his place etc (as there are loadsa alleys in the medina).. on our way up to his beautiful home, he pointed out all the landmarks that will guide us back. His wife, Nieves, is also a warm and friendly lady. I highly recommend Ricardo and Nieve's place in Chaouen as it is really clean and beautiful. They have a roof terrace where you can enjoy your tea or coffee and the view of the majestic mountains that surround Chaouen. It is just a bit of a climb to get to their place but it is totally worth it if you are in for the breathtaking view! The rooms are really clean and cosy too. We truly love their home!
We loved our stay at Ricardo & Nieves'!! Their place was very clean and welcoming. Ricardo took us on a tour around Chefchaouen as soon as we arrived & took the time to show us exactly the places we need to visit in Chefchaouen and highlight the fun things for us to do! Ricardo & Nieves were very generous and offered us fresh fruits after our tiresome trip and delicious home-made breakfast! YUM. Ricardo was also very helpful when we were planning our trip as he indicated the best transportation methods and the most efficient ways to travel around Morocco. Best place to stay in Chefchaouen, by far!
In line with the other reviews, Nieves and Ricardo are 'all star' hosts. Not just accommodating, but really smart and accurate in their recommendations and suggestions on other aspects of our trip to Chefchaouen and Morocco in general. 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.
The accommodation is not luxury but is extremely comfortable and pleasant. This is a very thoughtful layout. As another reviewer mentioned the ceiling in the shower/bath room is quite low but this was entirely offset by the attention to detail and quality of every last detail of the design. (I am 6'2" tall, and the bathroom ceiling height was not a factor.)
The breakfasts were wonderful and the view from the outdoor deck simply breathtaking. One of the best vantage points of any view during our 2.5 week trip to Morocco.
In line with the other reviews, Ricardo provided a combination of structured and unstructured (unguided) insight to enable us to manage and execute our stay in the Rif Mountains. This included a wonderful guide who took us on a hike of swimming holes in the mountains. Unbelievable experience--highly recommend the combination of aggressive hiking and magical swimming and diving along the way.
Overall we had an excellent stay in Chefchaouen. I highly recommend visiting and I highly recommend staying with Ricardo and Nieves. The accommodations are modern, spacious and suited our group of 4 perfectly. We felt very welcome from the moment that we arrived in town. Breakfast on the terrace was an added bonus as is the great view. The hosts have a wealth of knowledge concerning the local area. Do not hesitate to ask for advice. If you want to stay in a clean, secure and welcoming place this is it. If you prefer a relaxed low key Moroccan experience with great opportunities for hiking, and stress-free, shopping and dining be sure to include Chefchaouen, and a stay with Ricardo and Nieves in your itinerary.
Ricardo and Nieves were wonderful hosts. Their home is quaint and their hospitality generous. Ricardo met us at the entrance to the medina, pointed out stops and suggestions along the way to their home, and took us through a map of the whole area. We followed their suggestions and were very happy with our trip! They have a beautiful terrace with great views of the city, and the breakfast, particularly the homemade jam, is delicious.
My three friends and I had an absolutely wonderful time at Ricardo and Nieves' home! Their home is beautiful, and the view is amazing! Furthermore, Ricardo and Nieves were amazing. We took a cab from Tangier airport to Chefchaouen (about 2 hours and 15 minutes long) that Ricardo arranged for us. He reserved the cab for us, and the driver met us at the airport. Ricardo also helped us reserve the same cab for our trip back to airport when we left. After meeting us, he had porters help take our luggage up (since my friends and I had a lot of luggage) to the home. Next, he pointed out places of interest as we walked up to his home. He also gave us a map and highlighted routes, which was extremely helpful. When my friends and I told him we wanted to go to the nearby mountain (Akshour), Ricardo helped us get a guide. Furthermore, Ricardo and Nieves cooked breakfast for us each morning we were there. It was delicious! This was one of the best Airbnb experiences I have had. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here!

About the Host, Nieves And Ricardo
We are a Spanish couple who, after travelling the world over, decided to live a simple life in this small Moroccan town. For us it is beautiful to be able to enjoy this simplicity and, when we`ve had enough, we jump on a plane and fly to New York, Berlin, Delhi or another crowded place. We have friends all over the world and now, through airbnb, we can meet more people without leaving our home.
Our motto: LIVE AND LET LIVE
