Surrounded by "palazzi" with large porticoes in the 19th century style, the piazza Vittorio Emanuele II was built by Gaetano Koch shortly after the unification of Italy. Umbertine in style, it is the largest piazza in Rome. In the centre of the piazza there is a garden with the remains of a fountain built by Alexander Severus, and the so-called "Porta Magica" (Magic Gate) or "Porta Alchemica" (Alchemist's Door), the entrance to Villa Palombara, residence of the alchemist Massimiliano II Palombara.
In Vittorio De Sica's "Bicycle Thieves" (Ladri di biciclette), it was in Piazza Vittorio that the protagonist Antonio Ricci and his young son Bruno seek desperately to recover his stolen bicycle, but realise the futility of his task as the vast square is filled with countless bicycles and bicycle parts that resemble his own.
Walking distance from Colosseo, Fori Imperiali, Domus Aurea and two of the four major Basiliche of Rome, San Giovanni in Laterano and Santa Maria Maggiore.

Non smoking apartment. Enjoy and take care of it as it was yours.
Aldea is a simple host. Her apartment is OK. From apartment you can walk to the Rome monuments, or ise underground which is in front of building. I recomend this apartment for future visitors of Rome.
We were so happy staying at this place! The apartment had everything we needed. The host was very kind and helpful! The location of the apartment is very central. At first the area seemed rough but it was not. I could really recommend to rent this apartment!
We really enjoyed our stay at Aldea's apartment. The apartment has everything you need and is centrally located. Aldea met us when we arrived and helped arrange for our transfer back to the airport. The apartment was very clean, well-stocked and had many unexpected nice touches. We would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Rome.
Having traveled all over the world with my husband, Aldea was such a helpful, gracious, and charming host. She provided a home-away-from home environment, without detracting from the city's (Rome) excitement. Aldea's Rome appartment is going to be our 'home' whenever we are in Rome again. The neighbourhood? At first a bit 'in your face' but colourful, different, cosmopolitan, and exciting, AND safe. Great location and access to Rome's important city transit.
Aldea is an excellent AirBnb host with a lovely flat.
When we arrived Aldea was there to great us and show us where everything was and how it worked (in perfect English).
She lives across the hall and left us some really excellent recommendations for local shops and restaurants. She also stocked the kitchen with some useful goodies like yoghurts, milk, bread, coffee and juice.
The location is not the prettiest in Rome but is useful transport-wise and the flat is spacious, well-furnished and quiet.
We would stay again if ever we are lucky enough to go back to Rome.
She is really nice and helpfull host... Location of home great specially for groups who is planning to travel to other cities...small problems can be solved:) thanks for your nice hosting..
