About this listing
Taking bookings for 2016! Lovely view, central location at 7201 Grand Narrows Hwy (Rt 223, Bras D'Or Lakes Scenic Drive), Big Beach. GUN IT UP THE STEEP HILL! INCLUDES BREAKFAST! Large dog, cat & horses. Use Instant Booking! An hr from everything!
Bell's Room is a large, breezy room with a full-sized bed that can accommodate two people. It has a fantastic view of Central Cape Breton - the Great Bras D'Or Lake, the Washabuck Peninsula, the Cape Breton Highlands, the village of Baddeck, the field where Alexander Graham and Mabel Bell are buried (and where he conducted his kite experiments), and the Bell Mansion on "Red Head", which is still privately owned.
I ALSO have the Field Room, which has a full-sized bed and can also accommodate two people. YOU MUST BOOK BOTH ROOMS if you have more than two people in your party:
Field Room: https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/3180359
Belle's Room: https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/1528690
Your stay includes a substantial breakfast! Both rooms share a bathroom, but I have another bathroom downstairs available as well.
I have a steep driveway, but it is good. PLEASE MAKE A GOOD RUN AT IT! IF YOU ARE TOWING A TRAILER, YOU WILL NEED A 4X4 VEHICLE, but most front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive vehicles get up the hill without a problem.
Unfortunately, I cannot offer laundry service at this time, but perhaps next year!
I have a wireless Internet connection (DLINK, no password), satellite TV and a DVD for watching movies. I have an old wood road to hike on and a bench to sit on at the top of the hill! You can see Cape Smokey from my high gate at the top of my field!
Interaction with Guests
I'll interact with guests at their leisure!
I live in a quiet neighborhood of large farms with retired bachelors for neighbors and a friendly family of summer people. I am centrally located in Cape Breton, within an hour of most tourist destinations and 35 minutes from the Newfoundland Ferry! Route 223 or "Grand Narrows Hwy" is also called the "Bras D'Or Lakes Scenic Drive." My house was built on the original Pioneer Road - that's why it's 600 feet from the current highway!
You must provide your own transportation. There is no public transporation in rural Cape Breton.
Check out (URL HIDDEN) for places to go hear local music!
Other Things to Note
I am located within an hour of most tourist destinations on Cape Breton Island. See the "Guidebook" link for more information!
Tourist attractions include Fortress Louisbourg, The Cabot Trail, Bell Museum in Baddeck, Miner's Museum in Glace Bay, Celtic Colours Music Festival in October and frequent country dances and suppers at the local fire halls in Christmas Island and Boisdale. Iona Heights Inn for lunch and dinner, a weekly Friday Night supper at the Iona Legion or Beaver Cove Eat-In/Takeout year 'round. All just ten minutes from the Ladybug B&B!
Check-in is AFTER 5pm, but please try to arrive by mid-evening. If you are planning to arrive after 11pm, please try to make other arrangements - unless you're lost, of course! I'm in a rural area with a lot of wildlife on the road at night and I'm difficult to find, even in the daylight! Also, please refrain from using your GPS - it's highly unreliable on this island and I've had guests get lost using it!
