ABOUT THE ROOM AND YOUR HOSTS:
Please take time to read if you consider booking and note the information supplied in the DIRECTIONS notice sent by airbnb on completion of booking. A study of a KL map and the transport link in that note is advisable, and always feel free to contact us for more info.
A large double room with modern en-suite and small balcony.
Contemporary and ethnic styling, very comfortable bed, cool high thread-count cotton bed-linen, and luxury towels. Breakfast, in the open lounge with views of down town KL or in your room, home-made muesli & preserves with yoghurt (or fresh milk), freshly brewed coffee, tea, toast and fresh fruit at a time to suit you each morning. No cleaning fees, no supplement charges.
This home is shared with your hosts, Ben and Kee, a very open, relaxed male couple, Welsh and Malay early 40s, who love meeting new guests, and helping them spend their time in KL as they would wish to do, to the best of our abilities. If free we can be guides if you want the company, and Kee often drops guests off at Batu Caves en-route to work.
After the success and great reviews we received for our previous airbnb posting, we have decided to continue welcoming guests but in our new city centre apartment.
We are in City Gardens Condo, looking across Bukit Bintang in the heart of the city. The apartment is a large (1400sq. feet) open plan space, classic, modern, cosy sprinkled with art and crafts from across Asia. The apt. is on 11th floor.
Previous reviews, for our last home and references, below.
Take breakfast with a view of down town KL, open to the elements all day, the noise of a constantly developing city rising from below and around, the celebrations at the Chinese temple beneath us, the parties of Changkat Bukit Bintang at night, the calls to prayer and the peel of Sunday church bells all resonate thru the hot air of the city, but can be escaped from, into the air-conned / fan cooled bedroom, sanctuary.
We both smoke, at the open area of our apartment, smoking not allowed in the bedrooms, and we are not offended at being asked not to smoke in-front of you if you prefer.
LOCAL TRAVEL, FOOD AND TOURIST INFO :
Just 15minutes by cab from Sentral Station, which has direct train access to both airports and various parts of mainland Malaysia. We can sometimes pick up and drop off guests at the station if we are available, at no charge.
EATING AND DRINKING:
City Gardens is perched on Bukit Ceylon, with its own short-cut by foot directly down into the city. Just a stone's throw from the busy night time hangout of Changkat Bukit Bintang, a street of international restaurants, bars and clubs, that attracts large crowds, throughout the week into the early hours, drinks prices are high, beware of cut price cocktails. Wednesday night is always "Ladies Night". Pampas and Ciccio are both excellent well-priced eateries one for great steak the other for delicious pizza. The street's most famous restaurant, the internationally renowned Frangipani, hosts a gay night in the upstairs cocktail lounge on Fridays.
For dedicated foodies, who just want that street-food treat, head for Jalan Alor less than 10 minutes away on foot, open in part all day, but in full through the evening until 4am. Malaysian, Chinese and Thai food stalls line this one street on both sides, and we are happy to recommend our favourites, reasonably priced and cheep beer.Vegetarians are well catered for here thanks in part to Hindu and Buddhist faiths.
The Arab and Korean communities are well established here and they are well represented in terms of restaurants and grocery stores.
TOURISM AND SHOPPING:
The malls, museums and historic centres of KL are all within walking distance or by short taxi rides and public transport. I walk just about everywhere, but sometimes the cool air of a commuter train or monorail are too hard to resist, both just 10 minutes away. If you are a walker, remember this is a tropical country, umbrellas are good as protection against rain and sun. A folding fan can really take edge of the heat, and of course a bottle of water, though you might prefer to grab a fresh coconut, or sugar cane drink. Trains, Malls, Cinemas can feel very chilly after being exposed to the outdoor heat.
Check out my KL guide for some pointers. ( work in progress)
We can call taxis for you, or you can go down into Bukit Bintang to hail one. Always try and stop a moving taxi rather than one parked outside a hotel or at taxi stands - standard advice for most countries. All taxis are required by law to use their metres but KL taxis are internationally notorious & voted as the worst in the world for many years in a row for naming prices, being grumpy, etc. After-midnight fairs are 50% more. Taxis from railway stations and airports are normally paid for at a desk with a booking fee.
Some people skip this by going to departure exits instead. At the airport Taxis into KL double in price at midnight and drive insanely fast. The train from the airport is the best way into KL but doesn't not run all night.
Distances below supplied by online journey planners, some shortened by me as the websites do not have the short cut shown in the map in our gallery. Walking times will vary depending on levels of fitness, crowds, weather and your being a tourist/shopper etc.
LRT journeys are cheep and efficient, Monorail is slightly more expensive, cramped but useful. Bukit Bintang and Times Square Monorail stations and Hang Tuah and Imbi LRT stations are all about 10-12 minutes away on foot. Masjid Jamek's LRT station is about 15 minutes away on foot.
1,3 km to Pavilion Mall.15 mins on foot
1.4 km to Merdeka sq., the historical centre of kuala lumpur. 18minutes on foot
800 metres to Bukit Bintang / Jalan Alor the entertainment, shopping area, 10 minutes on foot
2.2 km-to the Petronas (twin) towers 25 minutes on foot via Bukit Bintang and walk way from Pavilion Mall
4.5 km to 'Sentral station' (trains/buses for airport ) 12 minutes by cab
'Central Market' and China town are 17mins 1.4 km and 1.2 km 12 mins away by foot
KL Bird Park, National Mosque and Museum of Islamic Arts are all about 10mins by taxi, approx. 2.8-3.2km
Batu Caves and Temple 15km 20 to 30 mins by Taxi, or on a weekday morning get a ride with Kee.
Taxi journeys are cheap but return journeys can take longer and cost more due to the circuitous expressway routes. Rush hour traffic is heavy from 5pm until 8pm, and on Fridays roads are generally clogged as everyone seems to be on the way to or from a mosque or breakfast or lunch or tea.
Feel free to use cable TV, hi-speed wireless internet, computer, printer & scanner, kitchen (cooker, toaster, fridge etc), laundry (washer & tumble dryer), iron, hair dryer, lounge, library, pool (communal)

We had a lovely time in KL with Kee (Ben was away during our trip). They have a super apartment bang in the centre of KL where it was very easy to get around. Everything about the apartment is great - location, comfortable bed, cleanliness, large cool living room open to the elements and a fabulous breakfast. This is such a better experience than staying in a soulless hotel. And then of course there is Kee! He is a really fine guy who made Sue and I feel very welcome. The pre-trip e-mail exchanges were extremely prompt and he helped us a lot with suggestions of things to do. He is also someone who is interested in his guests and we had some thought provoking conversations too. He also took us to Sentral to catch the train to the airport which was an unexpected bonus. We liked KL a lot and will return for sure and we very much hope to stay with Ben and Kee again. Thanks very much Kee.
We have stayed in Kees and Bens apartment for three nights and it was very pleasent. The apartment looks similar to the fotos, it's very clean and comfortably furnished. Also got a welcome drink when we arrived. Furthermore the apartment is located central to the local food market, Chinatown and other sights. Kee and Ben are very nice and polite hosts, it's very comfortable to sit together with them. Thank you for the great time!
A great place to stay! Kee was there to greet me when I had arrived and was very friendly. The place was very clean and inviting. The location was great as it was only a short walk to the nearby food markets. No complaints!
Im not usually one that write up comments or feedback but I guess The host deserves credit.
The room and accomodation were beyond what they have described! The place was spick and span.
Kee was very accomodating and knowlegeable host. He prepared a map for us to refer on, and places that we can visit.. He even dropped us off in the bus station out of his kind heart.
I highly reccomend this place!
We had a fantastic time in KL in Ben and Kee's apartment! Kee was so welcoming and friendly, we had such a great time sitting around chatting with him and he gave us all sorts of great ideas of things to see in kl. The apartment is open and beautiful with a fantastic view and is in a great location in the middle if everything in bukit bintang (very close to jalan alor). Thank you Kee, it was wonderful to meet you, we will definitely be back next time were in KL. We would definitely recommend the apartment to anyone traveling to KL!
Guy, me and our 14 mo old daughter Zoë arrived at Ben and Kee's place with a huge jetlag. Ben was not there but Kee made us feel so welcome and made breakfast for us.
Zoë felt immediately at ease with Kee and crawled around the place smiling. We had lots of interesting talks with Kee about life in Kuala Lumpur and many other things. We couldn't wish for a better place to recover from a jetlag. I can recommend this place without a doubt.
My wife and I had such a wonderful stay with Kee. (Ben was out of the country at the time.) Kee was very responsive to any email I sent him. He gave great instructions to get from the airport to his apartment. We arrived in KL around 6:00 after an all-night flight and, because nobody was staying in the room, we were fortunate to go straight to Kee's place and get some much needed rest.
Kee was a perfect host, always saying "mi casa, su casa." He made coffee for us each morning and we ate his yummy homemade granola and yoghurt. Unlike the other apartments in their building, they had removed the sliding glass doors to their porch, leaving the living room open to the elements -- no air con, just fans. The weather was very hot when we were there in April, so we were thankful our room was nicely air conditioned. The apartment was tastefully decorated with collections from Asia. Just so you know, on the first floor of the building, as you go past the elevators and out the back, there's a small shop, to-go food, and, I believe, a dry cleaner.
Location, location, location. Kee gave us a tourist map and explained that KL is an easily walkable city. The apartment is about a 15 minute walk downhill to KL's tourist and shopping districts. Going the opposite way, we walked to Little India, Chinatown, and the Petaling Street Market. Kee recommended the Old China Cafe, which had some great food in a beautiful, historical building.
Stay with Kee, you won't be disappointed! Such a kind, warm, easy-going, and friendly host. Thanks, Kee!
Two words to start with: GO THERE!! :)
Andreas an I had a great time at Kee's place, he's an absolutely lovely host and the place is magnifique - as shown on the pictures. As Ben was out of town we unfortunately didn't get to meet him - we'll do that on our next trip to kl.
Staying at his place for two nights (we would have stayed longer but the room was already booked) we instantly fell in love with Kee and his place and just felt at home - cooking, sitting, chatting and having drinks together. Thanks a lot for a wonderful time, Kee!
They were great hosts with a great place. It was clean and centrally located. I would recommend it to anyone.
The reviews and description of this listing are highly representative of our stay, we had a wonderful time. Kee was a great host, funny and helpful. The apartment was spacious, clean, and comfortable - the view was particularly splendid. It's a short walk from an abundance of food and drink; an area resembling Khao San Road lies just by the base of the hill. No doubt, you will have all you need here. Many thanks from the both of us, Kee!
